Shopping Travel: Slave to Fashion in San Francisco
October 1, 2008 at 9:45 AM | 0 Comments
It's always a perk to visit a city and have a close friend to show you the best spots to shop. You know, nowhere near the mega-chains, but full of local flavor and artistry. The result is usually a new closetful of pieces (and an empty wallet) that beg the question 'Where did you get that?' and the satisfaction of knowing your look can't be replicated by anyone back home.

Maybe this is where the "series of tubes" leads? The first thing you notice about Conduit Restaurant is the overabundance of metal pipes, floor to ceiling and swarming overhead.

L'Chaim Travel: Contemporary Jewish Museum Opens
June 10, 2008 at 10:15 AM | 0 Comments
Located in what used to be an abandoned brick building off Mission street, the Daniel Libeskind-designed Contemporary Jewish Museum opened to the public this past Sunday. The architectural landmark adds to the already significant museum row running down Mission.
Libeskind transformed the former Jessie Street Power Substation, maintaining the past integrity of the brick exterior while adding his own bold contemporary wing inspired by the Hebrew phrase L'Chaim (To life).
Architectural tours are offered daily through this week for free, and the museum website has more details.

San Francisco Music Venues :: Mezzanine
October 23, 2007 at 1:00 PM | 1 Comment

At Mezzanine in San Francisco, hip-hop acts like Mos Def and Snoop Dogg rest comfortably beside rock bands like Whitey, whose groupies dress up in raccoon and rabbit costumes. (What will those crazy indie kids think of next?) The downtown venue brags about the diversity of its stage--with just cause.
Every month, a variety of rock, dance, hip hop, soul, jazz, salsa and world beat artists take the stage, with interspersed multimedia art events, fashion shows and video and film installations. The club says it caters to performances of all types, from hot shows with the newest buzz bands to intimate engagements with well-known artists.
Why pay $0 (or $100) for the latest Radiohead album when you can pay $15 to see Digitalism, an up-and-coming experimental Electronica duo from Germany perform live this Friday? Wait, don't answer that--just get to Mezzanine.
