We'd Fly Across The Country For This Ice Cream Sandwich

Where: 926 Broxton Ave. [map], Westwood, CA, United States, 90024

If you're headed to LA and are at all interested in sweet treats, carve out some time for Diddy Riese, the ice cream sandwich shop based in Westwood Village near UCLA.

For those of you picturing a Chipwhich, think again. These creamy creations are warm, freshly-baked giant cookies overstuffed with gobs of Dreyer's ice cream. And even though celebs have been known to stop by on occasion and we're considering flying cross country just to get one, Diddy still sells the things for the unbelievably recession-friendly price of $1.50!

The only problem of course, is how to choose the perfect cookie-ice cream combo. (We think we've perfected it: Chocolate chip top, cookie dough ice cream middle, white chocolate chip bottom.) But for those of you still working on your own ideal flavor trio, check out Diddy's new online sandwich builder, which lets you experiment with different cookie-and-cream combos to your heart's content. Just a warning that it can lead to drooling and staring at cookies for the rest of the day.

Please, Hammer Museum, Don't Hurt 'Em!

Where: 10899 Wilshire Boulevard [map], Los Angeles, ca, United States, 90024

UCLA's Hammer Museum is one of the cooler arts spots in town, hosting all kinds of unusual exhibits throughout the year that draw a funny mix of Westside patrons and Eastside starving artists.  This summer will probably see an increase in the latter, as everything will be free until Labor Day.

The collection, exhibits, and events, are all joyously gratis.  Knowing what kind of crowd this will draw, the museum is hosting Thursday night concerts that are all indie, all the time, as well as a slightly questionable lecture series--a cynic might question what exactly Jenny Shimizu has to teach the rest of us, unless it's Angelina Jolie related.  Still, a good chance to get some culture in when taking a rest from urban water pistol fights and other hipsterrific activities.

Google Earth View: The Playboy Mansion Sight Test

Where: 10236 Charing Cross Rd. [map], Los Angeles, ca, United States, 90024

This is the closest most of us will get to the hallowed halls of the Playboy mansion. If you zoom in close enough maybe you will see the immortal Hugh Hefner strolling around the grounds in his pajamas wearing a smoking jacket.

Mansion detractors squawk that mansion parites are now as passe as any other main stream, surgically enhanced LA event. We, for one, wouldn't mind seeing for ourselves.

In an interesting twist in the web satellite imagery wars, Microsoft's Windows Live Local trumps Google Earth when it comes to bird's eye views of Hef's utopia.

Don't believe us? Sight test 'em yourself:
