Touchscreen Menus Exist In Chicago To Avoid 'Dithering' Customers
The Madpoison lounge and restaurant in Chicago doesn't hide its geek tendencies. Its motto is to "blend Mixology, Technology, Sociology and Foodology," and any place with so many "ologies" is clearly a touch on the nerdy side. But at the same time, it's really very cool.
Madpoison uses interactive touchscreen menus for ordering, including a big one for all us regular customers and tabletop screens at its VIP booths. They encourage you to build your own pizza on-screen, selecting exactly the toppings you wantsaki stir-fried vegetables, sesame seeds or feta cheese being among the options.

Where To Order Up Obama's Favorite Corned Beef Sandwich
We can't deny constantly craving some overstuffed pastrami sandwiches and potato latkes with applesauce. So Jaunted is taking a look at the Best Jewish Delis in the World. Got your own suggestion for tasty goody delis? Let us know.
Chicago is more known for its deep-dish pizza than its Jewish deli food. But if you do a little homework, you'll be able to find some authentic standouts, like Ashkenaz and Manny's, where Chicagoans like President Obama head when they crave some hot, peppery pastrami or a ginormous corned beef sandwich. Aren't you happy we do your homework for you?
But don't expect an ambiance to match the food at this no-frills, family-owned joint. The eats are served cafeteria-style at the old-school South Loop restaurant, with the workers in white aprons and old-fashioned deli hats lining the long counter.

"I'll Have The Veal Brains"
Our hungry Chicago expert, JetSetCD, filed this report from the bleeding edge of the Chicago dining scene.
It took me far too long to hit up Chicago's hottest new culinary mecca, The Publican, but they've had a few months now to both refine their pork rinds and clear the rigorous testing of Midwestern foodies.
Conceived by some serious godfathers of Chicago cuisine, including the dudes behind Blackbird, Avec and Violet Hour and Chef Paul Kahan, Publican was plotted for almost two years before opening in the trendy Fulton Market district. The restaurant's provenance and focus on peasant cuisine sure sound nice on paper, but can The Publican seat, serve and satisfy six without a reservation late on a Friday night?

Fall Culture Travel :: Alice In Chicago

Cold, rainy fall days make for the best museum visits. So over the next few weeks we're mapping the latest shows worth seeing--and a nearby spot to nurse your art hangover.
Linda Warren Gallery in downtown Chicago's West Fulton Market opened its Fall 2007 art season with the work of Heather Marshall. The exhibition, called "Olio Tableaux," is her first time presenting solo. Her small, rich paintings demand a careful and close eye, and the longer you look the more you seem to see. In a separate gallery space, Kathy Ruttenberg's ceramics, with their creepy Alice in Wonderland feel, are on view. The dual exhibitions are the perfect preface for dinner at Sunday Dinner Chicago.
Go down the rabbit hole and enter the magical hidden garden of the private outdoor restaurant run by three friends who met in culinary school, including a cook at Chicago's trendy NAHA restaurant. The trio runs a monthly supper club, and for $55, you can join the group for dinner.

Summer Music Festivals: Pitchfork '07
We admit it. We like Yoko. She's a feisty broad with an unapologetically terrible voice. Plus, she's got a seriously hot body for a septuagenarian. Saturday, she takes the stage -- not because of John's insistence -- and plans to sing in front of an allegedly willing audience at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.
The event kicks off Friday in Union Park and goes until Sunday. Other acts include Iron and Wine, the Sea and Cake, Sonic Youth, and The New Pornographers. About 30 additional performers round out the show. The event's organizer, Pitchfork, is one of those online music magazines that informs semi-hipsters on trends after the cooler hipsters are done with them (we know, it just sounds exhausting).
