Jemaine and Bret Mime Guitar at 169 Bar

Last night's episode of Flight of the Conchords returned to its usual light and fluffy (dare we say sugary?) storyline centered around the poverty of Jemaine and Bret. When Bret's $2.79 spending spree (on a cup for tea time) puts the boys' bank account into overdraft, Brett is forced to sell his guitar. The guys attempt to earn money in various ways (giving Mel $30 massages, selling super straws, and eventually prostitution) but all to no avail. Jemaine is thus forced to sell his guitar too.
All this happens as the duo get gigs at the Lower East Side's 169 Bar at 169 East Broadway. The bar is real and real old, about 80 years. However, it was recently purchased by New Orleans resident and musician Charles Hanson in 2006 who has gone about turning the bar into a slice of Nola music heaven.
The bar is open from 4pm to 4am. Happy Hour is everday from 4:30 to 7pm. "$3 off well booze, $2 off of everything else." And of course, the bar features nightly live acts of "acoustic genres of the world, Latin, R&B, Soul & Jazz-Funk. " However, while Jemaine and Bret got away with mime-guitaring for a few nights, it only earned them zero stars in the New Zealand consulate's newsletter.

Sex in the City Movie Travel: St. Patrick's Cathedral

How's that for the strangest headline ever? It'll all make sense, but we have to warn you fans with a major spoiler alert: Page Six is reporting that Carrie and Mr. Big will get married at New York's famous St. Patrick's Cathedral in the new SitC movie. Filming started early this morning and will go until late tonight, says the gossip sheet.
Not that the area around St. Pat's could get any more hectic. Right across from Rockefeller Center, the giant is a major tourist draw because it's the largest gothic cathedral in the United States. And unlike most churches we know, it's open from 6:30 am until almost 9 pm.
If you're not that into churches, Sex in the City or not, another tourist trap that's worth your time is nearby: the Top of the Rock observation deck.

Destination: Bruce's Cupcakery

Enter another one into the NYC cupcake competition: Bruce's Cupcakery, also just known as Bruce's Bakery. Tucked into a weird, busy corner on 57th St and 1st Ave., Bruce's retro neon signs stand out, and the window displays beckon with cupcakes, challah bread, and anything else baked that day. Sure, Bruce's looks a little suspect from the outside, but only because it's a real old-school style NY bakeshop. No cutesy tea menu or awning here, just the real thing: delicious, moist cupcakes and good deals.
You can even head to Bruce's for lunch, where a sandwich, Coke, and surprise (hint: think cupcake) spice up any old brown bagger's day. Bruce's cakes are also pretty damn good (albeit a bit pricey). You'll be trying to wash down and digest that chocolate ganache for a good while. They've also got an outpost in Great Neck, Long Island, and like to call themselves "the baker to the stars" meaning Mickey Mantle and the cast of All My Children, but that's what we love about Bruce's - they're not into the next, hip thing, only into what works.
