April 29, 2014 at 11:29 AM | by | ()

Tilt your wrist to scan a boarding pass? That's the plan, as a few airlines are already moving ahead with smartwatches. Iberia, Air Berlin and Vueling have teamed up with some high-tech minds to make flying the friendly skies a little easier.

All three airlines have created a way for their applications to send mobile boardings passes to smartwatches. Iberia has partnered with Samsung's Gear 2, Air Berlin with Pebble (compatible with iOS) and Vueling with Sony.

When we think of budget carriers, low cost carriers, and other cheap ways to travel the friendly skies amenities don’t usually come to mind. However, that’s not the case with Vueling, as they’re about to add something pretty darn awesome to the in-flight cabin.

Some of Vueling’s planes are heading into the hangar for an upgrade, as the carrier has plans to add in-flight WiFi to their fleet. Details are pretty limited at this point, as it sounds like even the company doing the wiring and whatnot is unknown. However, things could launch as soon as next month, so keep your WiFi settings updated and search for a signal.

Up, Up and Away for the World's Very First Instagram Jet

June 28, 2012 at 9:47 AM | by | ()

Just last month, the very first Instagram contest to decorate an airplane launched. Now, the results of that contest—an Airbus A320 sporting hundreds of original Insta-images—has also been launched.

Vueling, Spain's low-cost carrier, celebrated flying their 50 millionth passenger with this contest, and the livery that ended up on the plane conveyed their gratitude: "thanks" on one side and "gracias" on the other.

Lucky Instagrammers who had their images chosen, images that had to depict a destination served by Vueling, won roundtrip flights to anywhere Vueling operates. Niiiice.

Hey—remember when KLM used Facebook to cover a plane in your photos, creating a very unique livery?

Well we're happy to say that another airline has decided to let you dictate its airplane's looks, but this time it'll be using Instagram. Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling is asking their Facebook fans to upload images of Vueling destinations* to their Instagram accounts for the chance at winning 1 of 50 free roundtrip flights and a spot for their photo on the exterior of a Vueling jet in inside a printed book that travels with that special aircraft.

Vueling Parodies Great Aviation Moments in Movie History

December 16, 2011 at 10:16 AM | by | ()

We don't talk about the Spanish carrier Vueling, but then sometimes no news is good news. The exception is when an airline pulls a stunt that pokes fun at themselves or the industry, as Vueling has just done with their crew Christmas video.

Watch it above. The idea is that classic aviation scenes from iconic movies are acted out by Vueling staff in parody. A prime example is the scene from Snakes on a Plane, recreated by Vueling with snakes arm sock puppets.

Of course we love stuff stuff that's winky like this, but even more we appreciate that it's not loaded with "Merry Christmas/Tis the Season" stuff. Can you name all the movies they've referenced?
