Going to The Great Wall of China and Resisting the Urge to Get a Subway Footlong

There may no longer be a Starbucks at The Forbidden City in China but there is a Subway sandwich shop at The Great Wall. Seriously.
You can find the footlong mecca at the entrance to the impressive 2.5-kilometer stretch of the Great Wall in Mutianyu. From here you can walk in, out and around several of the 22 watchtowers that were built during the early Ming dynasty.
Some of the steps are steep and tiny and, as to be expected, you need to watch where you're going. There are no handrails and very few informational signs. It's just you, the wall and silence (well, when the other tourists aren't chattering that is. We managed to grab a quick little video on our iPhone of the Mutianyu section. Enjoy!

You Guys, Delta Just Did a Flashmob
Oh my god. Well if it wasn't obvious before, it is now: airline/airport flashmobs are the new black.
Latest on the travel flashmob trend is Delta, who just barely released a 5-minute dance, incorporating flight crew and operations peeps from ATL, JFK, DTW and TOC (Technical Operations Center).
It starts off corny, but stay with it. It gets...cornier, but omg do we want to hug everyone involved. See the full video:

Around the World in 5 Minutes of Time-Lapse Video
Okay, so we're definitely a little bit late on discovering this awesome time-lapse travel video, but trust us that it's worth a look, or a re-watch if you're all like "whatever that's so two seconds ago."
Truly this is the best way to start off a week, getting a healthy dose of creative/destination/photography/introspection inspiration.
Here's the deal: Kien Lam (user kiendlam on YouTube) quit his job and took off on a round-the-world trip, capturing it all to condense into this nearly 5-minute time-lapse video. That's 343 days, 17 countries, 19 flights, 58 buses (!!), 18 boats and 6,237 images to summarize. It's officialwe definitely don't have the patience to pull off great time-lapse photography such as this, which is why it's great that we have Mr. Lam for indulgences in armchair travel.

Watch a Giant Container Ship Pass Through a Lock of the Panama Canal
Ever wondered what a giant container ship passing through the Panama Canal might look like? Well, it just so happens we were visiting down there last week, and managed to stop by the Miraflores Locks, on the Pacific side, to witness a giant Dole container ship—full of pineapples, we assume—ease its way into the canal.
The entire process involves three sets of locks (Miraflores, Pedro Miguel and Gatun) and takes about 8-10 hours (though they allow multiple ships to travel along the canal at once) from one ocean to the other. But worry not. We've gone ahead and sped up the process to cram a 45-minute Miraflores Locks crossing into an easy-to-swallow two-and-a-half minute video clip. See below!

Three Minutes, Twenty Seconds to Fall in Love with San Francisco
Like anyone really needs more of a reason to fall in love with San Francisco, the tourism board has developed a cute, heartwarming video showcasing all the little bites of life that make SF...well, SF. And there literally are bites, of pancakes.
The video is titled "A Day in the Life," but all the different neighborhoods, landmarks and little social experiences make it more of a week, or several weeks if you're an average visitor trying to hit them all.
It's definitely no ">time-lapse, tilf-shift Lisbon, but it is a nice watch if you're trying to convince yourself to hit the City by the Bay in 2012, or if you already live there and want to fall back in love with the city.

Hanging Out at Singapore's Changi Airport: Riding the 4-Story Slide
There's a reason Singapore-Changi International Airport consistently wins awards; it's because the place is ah-may-zing. After spending much time at the three main terminals earlier this week, we're sharing with you our favorite, can't-miss bits of this massive travel hub.
Today: The 4-story flume slide in Terminal 3
The line is full of kids shrieking with joy, their parents looking on with cameraphones at the ready. At first glance, a traveler could think that the slides (yes, there are two slides) at Terminal 3 are for children only, but they're not. They're so not.
In September 2010, Changi Airport debuted the twirly, stainless steel fun tubes, one only as high as a single story and free, the other four stories and requiring a ticket which can be obtained for every $10 SGD spent at an airport store. We stocked up on cheap accessories at one such store and headed to an Information desk to collect our ride2 rides, since we had spent $20-ish.

Beginning the Year of the Dragon with a Healthy Dose of Fireworks
恭禧發財!
Just a quickie video to start the week off rightor rather, year off. Today marks the first day of the Year of the Dragon; it's Chinese New Year and yep, we're still chilling in Singapore, where we managed to take in the holiday fireworks with a view from the top of the RItz-Carlton, Millennia.
Whether or not you're passing out red envelopes or dining on Yusheng "prosperity salad," we bet you appreciate a good fireworks display now and then. And it was good! The pyrotechnics in Singapore burst above the Marina, surrounded on all sides by tall buildings from which to view the spectacle. There's the Central Business District (CBD) to the north and west, a gaggle of high-rise hotels to the east (where we are) andwe briefly pan over to itthe triple towers of the Marina Bay Sands to the south.
Pardon the fact that there's no sound; it was all people talking and our camera clicking, so you aren't missing any of the big booms.
Disclosure: Flights and some accommodation in Singapore are as a guest of Singapore Airlines. Regardless, all photos/videos and opinions presented are utterly and completely our very own.

Onboard the Singapore Airlines A380: The Iconic Singapore Girl
The Jaunted Singapore A380 Series:
1. The Grand Tour2. The Singapore Girls
3. Eating (and drinking) all the way to Singapore
4. Everything you ever wanted to know about Business Class
5. Design details
This is how you usually spot The Singapore Girl: whizzing through an airport in a swirl of color, turning heads with her poise, polite smile and designer luggage. And then, just like that, The Singapore Girl has vanished beyond the security check and you're left wondering...who is she? where is she off to next? how does she keep her figure?
Naturally there are answers to all these questions, some of which we've discovered over the last few days in Singapore, both from flying for 20+ hours with them on the inaugural Singapore Airlines A380 flight on the route JFK - FRA - SIN and from visiting the official SIA Training Facility near Changi Airport.
Spoiler alert: The Singapore Girl keeps her figure thanks to "extracurricular activities..."

Adorable Albino Penguin Alert.
Consider this your necessary daily dose of adorableness.
Voyagers with Lindblad Expeditions, onboard the ship National Geographic Explorer, were just chilling on Aitcho Island in Antarctica when they spotted a rare white penguin a few days ago. The cutie pie is a Leucistic chinstrap penguin (okay, so he's not totally albino), as the video explains, and he's just going about his penguin-y business.
Now is the middle of the prime summer season in Antarctica, when the cruise ships and expedition tours make landfall on the southernmost continent. Hopefully we can expect more sightings of similarly cute wild fauna before the season ends in a couple months.

Don't Watch This Video if Bumpy Airplane Landings Freak You Out
There's been a truly amazing video hitting the rounds of #avgeeks on the internet this week and we couldn't resist sharing it as well.
The above video is a little more than 9 minutes of aircraft landing and taking off from Germany's Düsseldorf Airport during a storm, which brought with it some serious wind conditions. The crosswind landings are successfully executed by pilots from a range of airlines, excepting Condor, who had to make a second try at it.
Only uploaded a few days ago, the video from Cargospotter has already garnered over 67,000 views on YouTube, and for good reason; the HD quality and freedom from an annoying soundtrack are awesome. And, while we've never experienced landing in such severe crosswinds as this (and hope we never do), we have been to DUS and can say that, ordinarily, it's not a dangerous airport at all. Until you throw a storm into the game.

Two Minutes of a Tilt-Shifted, Time-Lapsed Lisbon, Portugal
Confession! This member of the Jaunted team has visited every Western European country except Portugal and Denmark. Yes, even the little ones like Andorra and San Marino are checked off our list. Still it seems we need to correct this and get to Portugal before the wanderlust imparted by the video above wears off.
This is the cutest 2 minutes and 49 seconds you will possibly have today. Utilizing time-lapse, tilt-shift techniques and HD, the short film from Mario Rui Fernandes is a vibrant, happy look at the lively public spots of Portugal's capital, Lisbon. He jumps from tourist hotspots (we want to go stand on that map mosaic!) to scenes from local life, such as a commuter train station.
Keep your eyes open for our particular favorite moment involving a lone snorkeler. Happy Friday!
