These Are Your Airlines on Vine

May 9, 2013 at 11:31 AM | by | Comments (0)

Okay so Twitter's little video sharing app Vine has been around now for four months, and while it's been fun to play with, it hasn't quite caught on to turn any travel-related Vines viral. That said, several airlines have begun to test it out, and even use it in contests, such as when American Airlines awarded a Vine-r with a flight on their 777-300ER to London.

If you're at all curious to watch how airlines make this new social media tool work for them, or you'd just like to follow more Vine accounts in general, here's whose Vine-ing thus far:

Holiday in Ho Chi Minh City: Braving the Hectic Traffic

April 30, 2013 at 12:58 PM | by | Comments (0)

Driving in a foreign country takes guts and few cities illustrate this need as well as Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City. The metropolis is dominated by scooters and road rules are merely a suggestion of how locals get on with their daily duties.

It's not uncommon to witness scooters with three or even four people along for the ride, plus children standing on the seat. We even spied the Vietnamese equivalent to delivery trucks—mopeds piled high with boxes of goods and even a handful of giant rolls of foam. It seems unsafe and pretty crazy, but we never felt our well-being in danger once. All in all, it's reminiscent of the movements of bees in a hive; it just works.

Video Interlude: A Super Speedy Southwest Airlines Engine Swap

March 19, 2013 at 7:18 AM | by | Comments (0)

We’ve got to say that Tuesday is the worst day of the week. Sure, Monday isn’t all that great, but at least the weekend was just yesterday and there’s time to reminisce. That being said we thought we’d pass along a little bit of a time waster to help get you through the day.

We know that airline maintenance is pretty serious business, and that it takes plenty of time to get the planes ready to fly to here and there. Now it looks like Southwest Airlines is giving us a front row seat into some of the usual this and that needed to keep their planes moving about the country.

Take a 3D-ish Flight Through Brazil's World Cup Host Cities

Where: Brazil
February 28, 2013 at 10:42 AM | by | Comments (0)

We’ve heard of some unique ways in which Brazil is preparing for the influx of visitors in advance of next year’s World Cup, and once again they’re putting on their thinking caps when it comes to some creative marketing. Forget the traditional travel apps and the specially designed websites, as this time the tourism folks are going forward in 3D.

No need to brab your glasses for these clips, as Embratur—that’s Brazil’s tourism group—has just shot a whole bunch of 3D-style movies. Their goal is to bring around twelve different destinations to life, as they’re hoping to familiarize everyone with the different spots in which the games will take place.

Watch a Time-Lapse of a United 777 Getting a Fresh Paintjob

October 3, 2011 at 9:53 AM | by | Comments (0)

You know we’re suckers when it comes to travel time-lapse videos, and this week we’re falling for an older (though new to us) one showing off United Airlines' livery changes. Obviously it’s going to take quite some time to paint all those airplanes—including the Continental ones—into the new United colors, but here it takes just a couple of minutes.

Apparently this video reveals the behind-the-scenes magic, as one of the very first Boeing 777s headed into the hangar to get an airplane makeover. Don’t forget to turn up the volume too—the dude in the cubicle next door won’t mind—because the Rhapsody in Blue techno-remix just adds to the fun.

An Awesome Time Lapse Video from Boston's Logan Airport to Start the Week

May 23, 2011 at 8:58 AM | by | Comments (0)

You know we can’t resist an awesome travel video—especially when it’s time lapse—so that’s why we just had to share a little snippet from Boston’s Logan International Airport.

As you can see it’s a pretty busy place, and when the weather’s nice, the airplanes just effortlessly flow in and out. It might not look as fluid if you’re just watching through the terminal windows, but thanks to this video from BostonAirborne we get to see how impressive the workings of a major international airport truly are.

Awesome Video Alert: 5,500 Miles to Paris in Two Minutes

April 7, 2011 at 1:44 PM | by | Comments (0)

What's with the recent trend of travelers taking really great HD videos of their flights and making them into pseudo-dream sequences? We love it, really we do, and we're thrilled that our friend AirlineReporter has pointed out yet another amazing mini-film today: a two-minute trip from San Francisco to Paris onboard an Air France A340.

The video is recent—uploaded to YouTube on April 1—but there's no April Fool's joking about it. Watch above for breaktaking glimpses of the Northern Lights and snow-covered tundra. Passenger Nate Bolt captured 2,459 photos during the 5,576-mile trip, with the permission of Air France.

Awesome Video Alert: Around the World in 100 Hours with Canadian DJ Max Graham

Where: Canada
December 1, 2010 at 4:42 PM | by | Comment (1)

Yes! There is someone out there giving some serious competition to the "World's Most-Traveled Man," and that person is actually Jaunted reader and international DJ Max Graham. Max, a resident of Montreal who just received Canadian citizenship today (congrats?), is an Air Canada frequent frequent flyer; we're talking over 1 million miles here. During a recent trip around the world (literally), he shot snippet videos of the journey using his iPhone, and created the above montage to offer his fans and other travelers a peek at the world from his eyes, and his seats in first and business class.

The 7-minute video above is a must-watch, but beware that you will come down with a life-threatening case of wanderlust. Max's seamless and poetic transitions from plane to taxi to club to hotel to plane to repeat could lead to spontaneously booking a trip or worse...you may actually develop heartwarming and positive feelings towards air travel. Well done, Max, and nice Movember 'stache as well. *Slow clap* If you want to follow his travels in real-time, he's on Twitter @MaxGraham.

February 4, 2010 at 4:35 PM | by | Comments (5)

Thousands of people are snowsuiting up and heading to Quebec City for Winter Carnaval, held this year from Jan.29 through Feb.14.

Despite frigid temperatures (it plummeted to -4F on Saturday), locals didn’t seem to mind the weather, instead numbing the cold with the potent Port and brandy-infused Caribou liquor

Inside the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at London's Heathrow Airport

Where: London-Heathrow Airport, London, United Kingdom
February 1, 2010 at 10:05 AM | by | Comment (1)

You know when you're flying in economy class and you're walking through the terminal clutching your carry-on luggage and a Cinnabon, desperately seeking out a WiFi signal or comfortable seating, when...you pass a pair of sliding doors that briefly open to reveal what looks like a hidden wonderland within the airport? When this happens to us, our heart melts a little in agony that the experience of a first class lounge is so unattainable at that moment—but it wasn't last week, when Virgin Atlantic invited us into the holy grail of airline lounges: their Upper Class Clubhouse at London's Heathrow Airport.

What can we say about the place, except that it made our wildest airport dreams come true? The fact that free WiFi, complimentary Bumble & Bumble salon appointments, a pool table, an outdoor deck and even a HOT TUB exist in one place at an airport means we're going to need several hours to fully absorb it all, and thus we arrived nice and early.

After the jump, tons of pictures and more about that hot tub...

The Day in the Cloud Challenge Was Um...Challenging

June 24, 2009 at 5:28 PM | by | Comments (0)

We were able to fly on Virgin America from LAX to SFO this morning for the airline's inaugural Day in the Cloud Challenge--the first-ever online puzzle challenge that can be played in the air and on the ground. We competed against another Virgin America flight using the GoGo in-flight WiFi (which was complimentary to all guests on VA flights today.)

GoGo's WiFi network was understandably overstressed this morning but once we were able to play the game, things did not get easier. These games are actually quite hard! And there was a very cool prize at stake. The two flights were vying to win a free netbook for everyone on the plane.

So how did it end up? Well, we were on the winning flight but we're still not sure how this game works.

Jetting Coast To Coast On Jetblue: Our Videos and Juicy Details

June 18, 2009 at 3:01 PM | by | Comments (0)

It's been a full 24 hours now since the inaugural flight of Jetblue's LAX routes landed, and although we've detailed the ribbon cuttings on both coasts, we haven't yet told you about the party in the sky.

Since this flight was a regularly scheduled one, many of the Chinese tourist passengers sitting around us thought it their lucky day to get free mimosas on board in addition to gift bags featuring airplane-size Absolut vodka. And so we noshed on cookies and crackers and drank our drinks 35,000 feet above the flyover states, as Jetblue's VP of Airports, Alex Battaglia, went up and down the aisle collecting our trash. You won't catch any of the higher-ups at the legacy carriers doing that.
