Priceline Negotiator Goes Animated with Seth MacFarlane Cartoons

March 10, 2010 at 4:18 PM | by Omri | 0 Comments

Among the videos and shorts that funnyman Seth MacFarlane has sprinkled around the intertubes, the cartoons in his Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy are consistently among the most popular. The animated comedy web series - where classic cartoon characters pop up in hysterical albeit disturbing ways - catapulted MacFarlane's SethComedy YouTube channel into Most Watched Channel of the Week when it debuted. There's now a Cavalcade Hulu channel and the first season has even been released on DVD. That kind of popularity practically begs for digital sponsorship and advertising, and online travel agency Priceline has been more than willing to provide both.

The company has just inked a new deal with MacFarlane and - coincidentally - has chosen this month to announced a new and more generous best-rate-guarantee promotion. For a limited time, natch.

Book a $10 Flight on Jetblue Today Only, To Celebrate Their Tenth Anniversary

March 8, 2010 at 9:05 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Ain't no party like a Jetblue party, 'cause a Jetblue party don't stop! Now if you'll excuse us for quoting a Coolio song first thing on a Monday morning, then we'll tell you that Jetblue has a serious doozy of an airfare sale today, to celebrate their 10th anniversary in operation.

The $10 B-Day Sale is exactly what you'd hope it is: one-way flight on Jetblue are only $10 on the first ten routes the airline ever flew from JFK. The only catch is that this ridiculously low, Ryanair-like price must be booked today and you can only fly for so cheap tomorrow (March 9) or Wednesday, March 10. It's a godsend for last-minute travelers who can jet around during the week, but it will make those with 9-5 jobs weep for the fact that they wouldn't dare jet down to Fort Lauderdale and back for $20 roundtrip tomorrow.

The full details, after the jump!

Our Love for Low-Cost Carriers Continues with Pegasus Air

February 1, 2010 at 4:30 PM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Have you ever heard of Pegasus Airlines? We can't remember if we have, but apparently they've been flying for 19 years in Turkey, and have some pretty great rates for travel around Europe, especially with their current Valentine's Day promotion.

Let's say you'll be in London for good old Valentine's, but you've got a little extra vacation time. Why not skip Paris but still honor the memory of the romantic Orient Express by hopping a flight to Istanbul? If you book on Pegasus before February 13, and fly between February 11 and 15, then the second passenger travels for 50% off.

Or just forget it and wait until March, when the airline begins service between Paris-Orly and Istanbul, with tickets starting from 49.99 EUR one-way. Yes, Pegasus considers itself a low-cost carrier, so you in-flight meals will cost money, but you can at least pre-order them. Perhaps it's time we finally dipped our toes in the Bosphorus...

Forget Paris, Do Six Nights Over Valentine's Day in Rome for $649

Where: Rome, Italy
January 29, 2010 at 12:30 PM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Guess what is only two weeks away? Yep, Valentine's Day is back again, and with it comes the scramble for half-hearted gifts for your sweetheart, even though the thought is whole-hearted.

The newspapers are full of jewelry store ads and specials on weekend trips to Paris, but we're feeling something a bit warmer, someplace with more dolce vita than savoir faire, if you know what we mean. So then, it's off to Rome!

For the next few months, even including all dates around Valentine's Day, Travelzoo has found a huge deal on a hotel+flights+breakfast deal to Rome for $649. It's listed as $749 on the go-today travel site that is selling the deal, but enter promo code TZ012710 at checkout to knock off that pesky $100 difference. The hotel may be only 3.5 stars, but hey—at least you're in Rome with a bed and you've spent less than if you were to head straight into a jewelry store and just point at something nice.

Smart Travelers Don't Hibernate During Winter, Says NYT

December 29, 2009 at 5:04 PM | by Heidi Atwal | 1 Comment

There are deals to be found even in Vancouver right now

If you're smart, and not a hibernating mammal, then you're probably actively looking into travel deals for the month of January. While most people are recovering from holiday shopping trauma, others are taking advantage of less-crowded flights and predictably lower prices.

As The New York Times recently reported, "January may be the best time of year to take a vacation, as passenger traffic drops and resorts, airlines and cruise companies all roll out deals." Single travelers and childless couples, especially, may want to consider a trip in the dead of winter. As "families return to school schedules," there likely aren't too many teens, tweens, and toddlers with whom you'll be sharing airline time.

Wherein We Warily Test The Priceline Negotiator's Last-Minute Deals

December 23, 2009 at 1:49 PM | by Heidi Atwal | 0 Comments

Seriously, Shatner?

There've been Priceline gripes a-plenty, but we've also begrudgingly admitted to using "The Negotiator" to wrangle ourselves travel savings when it suits us. In our very, very, very last-minute search for holiday travel deals, what should we stumble upon than a menu of Flights Under $150, expiring tomorrow. *Flash-Act Now!-Flash*

Is The Shatner for real, though? Prices averaging at about $150 round-trip, with some departures the day before Christmas? We had to dig a little deeper to see if Captain Kirk was fooling us with that karate stance and winning grin.

What we found, after the jump.

Perfect Holiday Gift For the Europe Newbie: London, Paris and Rome For Under $1,000

December 15, 2009 at 10:24 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Oftentimes, Americans are criticized for taking European vacations that jump around, visiting some of the world's greatest cities for only 2-3 days owing to the short vacation allowances of American jobs. Most rectify this by taking one European trip a year, covering a city for seven days rather than getting just a taste, but not everyone can afford an annual cross-pond trip. With this in mind, we found an awesome deal on Travelzoo, one that'll get you to flights, hotels and breakfasts in London, Paris and Rome for around $1,000 from JFK (other cities are available).

Although you'll only have two nights in each of the cities, if you've never been to Europe and suffer from the curse of brief vacation time, then this could be the perfect holiday gift to yourself (or your special someone). Travelzoo found departure dates in March that all ring in around $930, with tax the total comes to $1115. We agree with T-zoo in their claim that typically this is the cost of just the airfare between the cities, if you're careful, but their deal includes all flights between the cities, accommodation, hotel breakfasts and taxes.

Helliday Madness Has Us Dreaming of Waikiki to Kick Off 2010

December 14, 2009 at 5:44 PM | by Heidi Atwal | 1 Comment

With the holidays in full swing, we're spent. Finished. Dunzo. We surrender. Quite frankly, if we have to brave one more packed-like-sardines parking lot or feign full-on merriment, some of us might have an aneurysm.

Melodramatic? Perhaps, but don't tell us that you, too, aren't feeling the seasonal crunch. And then there's New Year's to consider, party and/or travel planning which is a task in and of itself. Here's an idea, though: doing up NYE staycation-style and planning a Hawaiian getaway to kick off 2010, not to mention cleanse yourself of fruitcake nightmares.

Revealed: How To Use Your Credit Card To Get Unlimited Miles

December 10, 2009 at 3:21 PM | by Omri | 0 Comments

Never underestimate the ability of Flyertalk forum members to find every last way to maximize their frequent flier miles. The newest scheme to emerge from the boards goes way beyond "make sure you do your holiday shopping through rewards websites" and involves buying currency from the US Mint with your credit card, pocketing the miles, and then driving to deposit the coins and avoid fees. The Wall Street Journal has more details:

At least several hundred mile-junkies discovered that a free shipping offer on presidential and Native American $1 coins, sold at face value by the U.S. Mint, amounted to printing free frequent-flier miles. Mileage lovers ordered more than $1 million in coins until the Mint started identifying them and cutting them off. Coin buyers charged the purchases, sold in boxes of 250 coins, to a credit card that offers frequent-flier mile awards, then took the shipments straight to the bank. They then used the coins they deposited to pay their credit-card bills. Their only cost: the car trip to make the deposit.

Megabus Releases 100,000 Free Tickets For Early 2010 Travel

December 8, 2009 at 11:54 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

It's that time of the year again—the time when budget bus company Megabus releases 100,000 free tickets for travel during their slow period after the holidays.

Starting today, book a Megabus ticket on any route for travel between January 6 and March 20, use promo code "GETAWAY," and enjoy a free ticket. The promo is part of an effort with NYC & Company, NYC’s marketing and tourism office, to get more people to the city. Ain't nothing wrong with that!

The deal is subject to availability though, so booking earlier is better. We tested it out by searching one of their longest routes, NYC to Toronto, and indeed it showed that all tickets were free at this time.

If you can handle a long bus ride versus a quickie plane trip, then Megabus will at least try to keep you comfortable and entertained with free WiFi, reclining seats, power outlets, on-board restrooms and the occasional double-decker bus (sitting up front on the top is pretty sweet/dangerous in a snowstorm). Just be sure to read through our list of The Top Five Tips For Surviving Budget Bus Travel first.

December 4, 2009 at 10:19 AM | by Jennifer Kester | 0 Comments

Money is tight around the holidays and the several months afterward, when you're paying off your credit card bill from Black Friday. So it's probably better to start looking to the spring for your next big trip. Head to India for an eight-day spring break that will cost you $999.

You'll have a hard time finding frat guys and kegs on this kind of spring break, though. The Travelzoo package includes round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, a daily breakfast buffet, a farewell dinner, ground transportation in India, sightseeing tours, and entrance fees to the sights.
