Travel Contest Alert: National Geographic's 25th Annual Photo Competition

We’ve seen our share of travel contests and unfortunately we’re pretty good at not winning the grand prize. Usually these contests just take a few clicks to enter, but there’s one contest now open which requires more of your time and focus.

2013 marks the 25th year for the annual National Geographic photo contest, and just like every other year it’s open to one and all. The only catch is that you have to be more than awesome when it comes to snapping travel snapshots. Like, have you seen some of the past winners and entries?! An iPhone picture probably isn’t going to cut it.

Hawaiian Airlines – Lei Day

Over in Hawaii, Lei Day—May 1—is already over, but Hawaiian Airlines is celebrating for a few more weeks. On Facebook they’re inviting you to take a little Lei Day quiz to find out which lei fits you best. It only takes a few clicks, and then your answer is revealed. However, the potential payoff is that you could enjoy 140,000 HawaiianMiles as well. The fun runs through May 22, so waste a few minutes and discover your lei—today!

Alaska Airlines - Explore Denali National Park

Thanks to Alaska Airlines there’s new nonstop flights between Fairbanks and Portland, and now they’re running a little bit of a contest to help celebrate. Along with Denali Park Resorts and the Alaska Rail Road they’re giving away a Denali National Park trip for two. You’ll get a couple nights at McKinley Chalet Resort, a pair of Tundra Wilderness Tour tickets, and roundtrip tickets to Denali from Fairbanks on the Alaska Railroad. Of course to round things out you’ll also score two roundtrip tickets on Alaska Airlines to Fairbanks, but you need to remember to enter first. Just be sure to head over to Facebook to enter your details, as the sweepstakes ends on May 24.

National Geographic Seeks a Few Good Photos to Print on T-Shirts

Have some pretty nice snaps in your Instagram account, hm? Think any are possibly National Geographic-worthy? If you're thinking yes, or even maybe, then head on over to "like" Japanese clothing store Uniqlo on Facebook and enter their newest collaboration contest with Nat Geo. If your photo of "depicting a scenic vista or other nature scene" is as good as you think, then it'll be printed onto T-shirts and you'll be a Nat Geo-published photographer.

Although there's no free tickets or actual travel included in the prize, you will get 10 of the T-shirts featuring your photograph for free and all the bragging rights that comes with being chosen by a panel of Nat Geo judges.

If you’re in the market for a new suitcase we’ve got some good news for you. No need to pick one out that only fits some of your needs and only part of your style, as Samsonite is inviting you to design your very own piece of luggage. It’s all up to you, and they’re running a little bit of a contest to find the next great design.

Bust out the crayons and markers, as the contest is all about your original artwork. Basically, Samsonite is looking for aspiring artists to design some snazzy artwork to slap on the outer shell of a Samsonite suitcase like the Cosmolite or the Firelite. The only bummer is that they want real artists working on these designs—so we’re excluded—because it’s only open to registered undergraduate and graduate art and design students.
