How Past Amazing Racers 'Survive': A Reality Show Challenge In Houston
Kelly Crabb competed in Season 13 of The Amazing Race, taking 6th place with her best friend, Christy. Coined as "America's Divorcee," this freelance writer and travel enthusiast lives life to its fullest in Houston, Texas and remains "bitchy with a heart of gold." Here she recaps the latest Amazing Race/Survivor alumni event in Texas:
Stars of reality shows don’t always return to normal, everyday life. After such an eye-opening experience, most go on to alter their lives by making special appearances, continuing to travel the world, posing for pictures like a regular celebrity, working towards good causes, and some even hold political offices. Of course it's even more drastic if you win a reality show, as they usually drop work altogether.
Houston’s Jolanda Jones of Survivor: Palau, and now Houston City Council Member, has put on The Houston Survivor Challenge now for the second year in a row. Many reality stars from different shows were in attendance this year, including the event’s Emcee, Uchenna Agu, Winner of Season 7 of The Amazing Race.

Survivor: Samoa to Feature All-Star Cast, Minus Jailbird Richard Hatch

Inaugural Survivor winner Richard Hatch followed in the much maligned footsteps of rejected reality star Rod Blagojevich this week, when a judge ruled that Hatch could not leave the country to participate in Survivor: Samoa.
Hatch served three years in federal prison for failing to pay taxes on his $1 million Survivor winnings, and is finishing up the last 90 days under house arrest. He had argued that appearing on the show would help him pay back the money, but the judge refused to take the bait, so the notorious “fat naked guy” will have to come up with another plan. VHI or Bravo has to have something in the works for him, right?
Perhaps in more interesting news, the court case appears to confirm that the 20th anniversary of Survivor, set to air next year, will indeed by an All-Star, “Heroes vs. Villains” showdown, which hasn't yet been confirmed by the show's producers. But can they really have a villains team without Hatch?

Fox's New Reality Show Can't Wait To Fire You
Dastardly opportunists. The Fox Network announced this week it would be scouting ailing businesses for its next reality show, "Someone's Gotta Go," a layoff-themed TV competition. Employees will go over the books and decide who deserves to lose his or her job, which may be more fair than having one boss decide, but talk about setting up a negative work atmosphere! At least the cameras will make it obvious that they're all being watched and found wanting. We suggest the unluckiest employee get out of town on one of these reality-themed trips:

'Survivor' Is Coming To A Theme Park Near You

If you’re more of an attraction person rather than a roller coaster person, then you’ll be interested in some new television based theme park offerings. CBS is bringing Survivor to three theme parks this summer, so you can do your best to outlast, outwit, and outplay with a hotdog and popcorn nearby.
Starting this May, park visitors will interact with actors who play the roles of previous show contestants, while dividing the audience participants into four tribes. There will be clips from the TV show, along with a series of challenges, all in order to crown a winner. Unfortunately, unlike the American Idol attraction, winning theme park Survivor won’t get you an accelerated chance to audition for the real deal. In fact, it sounds like all you win is pat on the back.

Will 'Survivor' Head to Samoa?

Survivor, as we all know, is the reality show that just refuses to die. Even though we far prefer Amazing Race, Survivor just keeps on coming back. And there's no stopping it in 2009. If reports are to believe, plans are underway for the show's new season in Samoa.
Stuff.co.nz claims that veteran Samoan journalist, Apulu Lance Polu, revealed in a recent editorial, that Prime Minister Misa Telefoni called media owners to meet "a Caucasian man who claimed to have been a journalist representing an overseas company filming a popular TV reality show on CBS that claimed 100 million TV viewers worldwide."
The man told the gathered journalists that CBS’ advance team would arrive in April and they expected the local media to stay mum about what was happening until CBS made an official announcement about what was presumably "Survivor 19".
