Batter Up! Here's the Scoop on Spring Training in Arizona

March 15, 2012 at 9:38 AM | by | Comments (0)

Our neck of the woods seems to be warming up, the time change has set in, and the date on the calendar says that spring is right around the corner. Pitchers, catchers, and everyone else have already reported to the Grand Canyon State, and that’s enough confirmation for us that winter is pretty much over. Cactus League games are already underway as everyone has been busy burning those extra off-season pounds, and now it’s your turn to skip out of work, get out of the snow, and celebrate the national pastime.

Here’s the scoop on a few teams, where they play, and what they offer:

· Oakland Athletics
The Oakland A’s are probably most famous for their recent debut on the big screen, so if you want to see where Moneyball is truly played make your way out to Phoenix. Billy Beane still serves as the team’s general manager, and we’re thinking that there’s probably going to be more of a demand for his autograph this year. However, most of the attention will be focused on Manny Ramirez, as he’s probably the team’s biggest offseason acquisition. After flying into town you don’t need to travel far after landing to check out the spring home of the A’s, as they do their thing right in Phoenix.

Phoenix Municipal Stadium holds a whole bunch of baseball fans—like 7,885 of them—and the place was redone and revamped back in 2003 to bring things up to date. Despite the newness of the facility it still promises to retain some old baseball charm, and there are even some decent views of Papago Park in the distance. You quickly realize that you’re definitely in Arizona attending some spring training games and certainly not Florida. This weekend the Mariners and Cubs will be heading into town, and it looks like there are still plenty of seats available. Admission here is pretty darn affordable with most of the tickets running between $12 and $25, so there’s definitely of cash left over for a couple rounds of hot dogs and beers.

Batter Up! Here's the Scoop on This Year's Spring Training in Florida

March 13, 2012 at 5:37 PM | by | Comments (0)

Our neck of the woods seems to be warming up, the time change has set in, and the date on the calendar says that spring is right around the corner. Pitchers, catchers, and everyone else have already reported to the Sunshine State, and that’s enough confirmation for us that winter is pretty much over. Grapefruit League games are already underway as everyone has been busy burning those extra off-season pounds, and now it’s your turn to skip out of work, get out of the snow, and celebrate the national pastime.

Here’s the scoop on a few teams, where they play, and what they offer:

· St. Louis Cardinals
We have a hard time thinking all the way back to last season, but we’re pretty sure that the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series. A lot has changed since then—like seeing Albert Pujols flee to Los Angeles—but there’s still a lot of hope for fans of the Cards. Chris Carpenter is trying to ensure he’s good to go for the season and Yadier Molina is readying himself for the long 2012 ahead. All the spring training action goes down in Jupiter, but if you’re a lifelong fan of the Cardinals you probably already knew that.

We’d consider the Cardinals a pretty popular team—and certainly successful—so be sure to get there early to score a seat. The stadium holds around 6,806 fans—give or take a couple—so there will certainly be plenty of new friends to talk baseball with. Tickets to the 2012 spring training season will set you back $26 for Loge Box options and $15 for the bleachers, but there a few games that’ll cost a little more as they're classified as premium. Oh, and if you love the stadium but hate the team—no problem—the Miami Marlins also call Roger Dean Stadium home. Both teams play a couple games against one another this week, so enjoy some peanuts and Cracker Jacks.

Batter Up! Here's the Scoop on Baseball Spring Training in Arizona

March 10, 2011 at 12:46 PM | by | Comments (0)

Despite the temperatures across much of the country, the date on the calendar says that spring is right around the corner. We were hesitant to believe it thanks to the latest winter blast, but pitchers and catchers have already reported to Arizona, and that’s enough confirmation for us. Cactus League games are already underway as everyone has been busy burning those extra off-season pounds, and now it’s your turn to skip out of work, get out of the snow, and celebrate the national pastime.

Here’s the scoop on a few teams, where they play, and what they offer:

· San Francisco Giants
You might not remember who won the 2010 World Series—seems like a long time ago—but we’re sure that residents of San Francisco know that their Giants were victorious in last year’s fall classic. Tim Lincecum and Brian Wilson are back to shut down the opposition, and the rest of team is in Scottsdale getting ready to warm up for the season.

They play all their spring homes games at Scottsdale Stadium, which isn’t too bad of a stroll into downtown for some drinks—and more nachos—following the game. Tickets for this season’s games start at just $7 for some of the cheap seats, but even the best spots in the house don’t really go too far north of $30. The Dodgers come into town on Saturday, but if you’re not around this weekend, the Brewers and the Angles are options for next week.

· Philadelphia Phillies
They might not have won the World Series in 2010, but with Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee as part of their rotation they might find themselves playing well into the fall this season. Far from the winter weather of Pennsylvania, the team does their warm weather thing in Clearwater. There’s good beaches not too far from the stadium, so remember to plan a little downtime for yourself in between games. The good seats will run you a little north of $30 per person, but there’s always a spot in the grass for around $13.

Where To See Your Favorite Team During Spring Training in Arizona

March 3, 2010 at 9:09 AM | by | Comment (1)

Somehow it’s already March, and we’re excited to talk about baseball spring training travel. We've already discussed the excellent options in Florida, but the teams in Arizona are a worthy competitor to the Sunshine State's group. The only downer is that there aren’t too many beaches in and around Phoenix, but there’s always cacti! Here’s the deal on a few teams, where they play, and what they offer.

· Chicago White Sox
President Obama has a lot on his plate right now, so we’re thinking that he won’t be taking Air Force One out to see any Chicago White Sox games this spring. Regardless of how much you have going on at work, you can always call out sick and head to Glendale. Here the the White Sox work out the winter kinks at Camelback Ranch—it’s also the spring home to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Spring must be right around the corner, because pitchers and catchers have already reported to the Sunshine State. They’re loosening up in time for next week when the first spring training games in the Grapefruit League are scheduled to begin. It’s time to book some cheap airfare and head down to Florida to get out of the snow and celebrate the national pastime. Here’s the scoop on a few teams, where they play, and what they offer.

· New York Yankees
The Yankees begin to defend their title by kicking off their practice schedule next week. Just like their real home in the Bronx, things are expensive if you’re thinking about dropping by Tampa to check them out. The cheap seats start at $17 in the outfield, but seeing Derek Jeter in person is priceless—that’s at least what the ladies tell us.
