2009 Halloween Theme Park Scare Guide: Six Flags Fright Fest
The best place to celebrate the spooky season in the New York City region has to be a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure in neighboring New Jersey. It’s a few hours from the city, but most theme parks are already boarding things up for the winter, so it’s your best chance for once last spin, dip, and drop on a roller coaster. Most of the Six Flags across the country offer a little entertainment, but the offerings at Great Adventure are some of the best around.
Celebrating its eighteenth year of freaking people out, Six Flags Fright Fest is well underway. This year’s events are sponsored by Snickers, so hopefully there will be some treats as well as some tricks for park visitors. There’s new shows, creepy decorations, and plenty of pumpkins and spiders to get you in the mood for Halloween.
The park is transformed into thrills by day and chills by night, so no matter what time you’re attending, you’ll get chills down your spine. Things during the day are a little tamer especially adventures like the Trick-or-Treat Trail. Here you’ll fill up your pillowcase as you get some free candy from the Looney Tunes characters. Hey Bugs Bunny, we’ll take the big size bars if you have any—thanks. Once nighttime arrives prepare Professor Zombini's Freak Show. Here you’ll be able to criticize and judge sideshow freaks as they perform their antics, let’s just hope they don’t escape.

Rihanna Rides Tatsu at Six Flags
We're still obsessed with the World's Scariest Roller Coasters. Got any rides we should know about? Tip us off.
Rihanna is fearless when it comes to her fashion and her tattoos but it also turns out she's pretty fearless in her amusement park habits as well.
TMZ snapped the singer boarding the Tatsu roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain outside Los Angeles yesterday. Tatsu, the Japanese word for dragon has 3,602 feet of track that goes 62 miles per hour with 263 feet in plunges and is 17 stories high at its peak. Oh yeah, and you're riding face down most of the way. Just watch the video to see for yourself.

Six Flags Doing Great, Declares Bankruptcy
As we discussed back in March, the Six Flags amusement park chain has been in dire financial straits for a while, straining under more than $2 billion in debt. Efforts to restructure that debt proved fruitless, so the company is now seeking Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. As the AP points out, operations at the company's 20 parks in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico won't be affected by the filing, but one has to wonder what kind of entity will emerge on the other side.

Water Parks And Baseball Fields Await The Former NOLA Six Flags
Last week we filled you in on the current situation at Six Flags New Orleans, and now we have a little bit of news that may brighten the situation. Even though there’s all kinds of legal battles between the city and the suits at Six Flags, things may soon begin to move forward with a new project.
A member of city government recently flew out to Texas to check out a company called Big League Dreams. This developer is looking to transform the graveyard of roller coasters into an area filled with water rides and facilities for youth sports. We’re just hoping that the water park will be a good one, because the city’s residents definitely need a place to cool off in the summer.

Six Flags New Orleans Just Another Reminder of Katrina
Following Hurricane Katrina, there were much bigger crawdads to boil than worrying about the fate of roller coasters and Ferris wheels. However, years after the storm, Six Flags New Orleans continues to sit vacant, serving as a reminder of the devastation of the area.
Situated on the eastern side of the city, the park remains the biggest eyesore to locals who are trying their best to get things back to normal in this area. There may be other damaged buildings that also still wait for the bulldozer or the renovators, but clearly a deserted theme park is one of the largest and most tragic-looking.

Theme Parks Are Cookin' Up Some Goods For Summer '09

If traveling to Germany isn’t within your summer vacation budget, then you might want to check out the roller coaster offerings stateside. Park officials are betting big time that you’ll be spending what’s left of your money on entertainment close to home. So, they’ll be trying to lure your hard earned cash with five big coasters all across the country, and we’ve got the scoop on what they have to offer.
Of course Florida is in the mix for the 2009 season. We’ve discussed how the Hollywood Rip, Ride Rockit will be racing into Universal Studios Florida this summer, but we don’t know when or how. Exact specifications on this thing are sketchy at best, and it seems like they’ve been building it forever. They’ll be music, color changing effects, and other fancy newfangled technology. However, unless this thing is the second coming of coasters, we’re thinking it could be the flop of 2009.

Theme Parks Travel: Superman Going Under the Knife
Fresh off winning the award for best steel coaster, Six Flags New England announced yesterday that Superman: Ride of Steel, will undergo some renovations in time for the 2009 season.
As riders travel twenty stories into the air, they'll now be treated to pockets of fog, bursts of fire and an all-new audio track as they fly along the track in just over three minutes. Trains will be totally renovated as well, but no word on if they'll modify the unique restraint system that leaves your upper body free to flail about.
Of course, all the excitement was ruined as the park also announced that the renovations would further help solidify its position as the ideal "daycation" destination in the area. With or without the "clever" marketing, the ride looks to be a must-see in 2009.

Theme Parks Travel: Six Flags over Tampa?
It might be time to starting planning another trip to central Florida to take in the latest and greatest theme park. The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that theme park giant Six Flags is thinking about opening a new park in the Tampa area. Apparently, this rumor has been cooking for some time, but recent developments have moved it to the front page.
Supposedly the park would be constructed on the current site of a large flea market or on the grounds of an old mining facility that is scheduled for renovation. Two hotels under construction in the area in question have fueled rumors that some big coasters are looking for a vacation home in Florida.
County officials are saying that nothing has been filed in regards to a new theme park, but they also say they're definitely open to chatting up Six Flags regarding the possibility. So for now, the rumor is still a rumor, but Manta may not be the only new coaster coming to Central Florida next year.
