New Routes Do Their Thing from Lufthansa, American Airlines and More

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· American Airlines:
It might not have the hipster and cool kid appeal of Portland, but up in the Pacific Northwest Seattle has being doing cool before it was trendy to be cool. American Airlines might be a little late to the party, but they’re planning to head all the way over to Seattle from Miami beginning this June.

Some Boeing 757s will be doing the back and forth work on this new option, and things officially kick off on June 14. The airline promises that they’re hard at work upgrading and improving all of their 757s, but you might not be lucky enough to get a refreshed plane—the goal is to finish in 2015. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like American Airlines is keen on giving any discounts for this new option, but if money is tight maybe you can finally cash in some of those AAdvantage miles.

· Air Nigeria:
London can never have too many options, or at least that’s the thinking over at Air Nigeria. The plan is to start a couple new options, and one of these will be a nonstop flight between London-Gatwick and Lagos, Nigeria beginning on May 16.

The next day the carrier will be getting ready for another new flight, as they’re also looking to connect their home base with Johannesburg, South Africa. The plan is to utilize some Airbus A330s to get back and forth between these new destinations, so you can expect the chance to score a seat in either business class or economy class.

Ready, Set, 'Go Africa' on Skyteam's Newest Multi-Country Flight Pass

It might not be as awesome as JetBlue’s all-you-can-jet pass, but the airlines that make up the SkyTeam alliance are looking to create a similar option. If you’re always wanted to see all that Africa has to offer, you might want to look into the new Go Africa Pass.

Kenya Airways is the main airline driving the new flight pass, and the goal is get you here, there, and everywhere within the continent. The magic airline tickets are an option for both business and pleasure flyers, and it can be added onto any round-trip ticket that includes Africa, or any around-the-world ticket too.

You’re going to need to brush up on your Africa geography, as Kenya Airways can connect you to at least 36 different countries, including Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Egypt, and Tanzania.

Jambo Jet Might Be the Latest LCC to Arrive in Africa

There’s plenty of low cost carriers being planned and prepped for takeoff in Asia, but now it looks like Africa is getting in onto the LCC craze.

Kenya Airways is thinking about getting passengers across the continent cheaply and quickly, and they’re going to do so thanks to a new airline that they’re calling Jambo Jet. The spin-off will focus on regional and domestic routes along with international flights between countries that are pretty close together. That means it’s doubtful that this new airline will be flying nonstop to South Africa, but we shall see how everything shakes out.

Airline Report: Kenya to Comoros

The  Arabic-and-French-speaking Comoros islands just got a little closer. Actually, they're still pretty far away (from the States, at least). What they just became is a little more accessible, and that's thanks to Kenya Airways. You might know Kenya Airways as one of the three African carriers (along with South African and Ethiopian) recommended by and to those distrustful of, well, all the rest of them.

Awaiting you on the Comoros are uncrowded beaches and wilderness, plus the world's biggest active volcano. Diving off Mayotte, an island claimed by the Comoros but administered by France, is excellent. Kenya Airways started service from its hub in Nairobi to Grand Comore and Mayotte yesterday.

Aviation buffs and fans of Seconds From Disaster will recognize Grand Comore as the site of a famous Ethiopian Airlines hijacking crash, one of the only "successful" water landings in history. That crash took place off the shore from Le Galawa Beach Hotel.

Other airlines serving Comoros/Mayotte include Air Austral and Air Madagascar.
