Follow Kate Beckinsale Around Winnipeg In 'Whiteout'

September 11, 2009 at 12:24 PM | by cmb | 0 Comments

Whiteout—about a murder in Antarctica—not the old school liquid stuff that covers typos, opens in theaters nationwide today. The movie stars Kate Beckinsale, who has yet to mention whether or not her boogers froze while filming, as a Deputy Marshal sent to investigate the murder. To capture the feeling of the Antarctic, they filmed the movie in various locations across Quebec and Manitoba, including Lake Winnipeg, just outside of Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba and Boucherville.

Winnipeg used to be thought of as the armpit of Canada (see New Jersey, Canada had one too) but recently the city has actually become a cultural hub with world class restaurants, festivals and an arts district in the center of town.

We tell you where to follow White Out around Quebec:

Airport Photo Shoot: Kate Would Rather Be in a Bikini

August 26, 2008 at 9:15 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

The Cabo trip was ruined: Kate Beckinsale gets the post-holiday blues at LAX with her daughter. The actress and husband, director Len Wiseman, were spotted several times soaking up the sun in Mexico, but all good things must come to an end.

Looks like she's still wearing her beach cover-up, though! Kate spent most of the summer in Canada filming the thriller "Whiteout," which takes place in the frozen tundra, so she was probably thrilled not to have to wear Polarfleece everywhere.

Kate Beckinsale Chooses Shaved Ice

Where: 1305 Montana Avenue [map], Santa Monica, CA, United States, 90403
November 28, 2006 at 10:00 AM | by markj | 1 Comment

Kate Beckinsale appears to have a different Thanksgiving weekend tradition than most, shaved ice.

Di Dio's serves authentic Italian ices, which are made from fresh fruit and fruit juice, sugar and water.

Apparently blood orange is the must have flavor at this ice shop, though it looks like Kate went for something a bit more vanilla.  You can get multiple flavors in one order and a medium ice will run you a bit under $4.00.

While this place is no doubt hopping in the summer, it is a statement on global warming that Kate and crew found it necessary to get a frosty quaff the last week in November.

Is there a difference between Italian ice and gelato? Maybe gelato includes some form of milk?

Kate Beckinsale shows off San Sebastián

September 29, 2006 at 11:41 AM | by markj | 0 Comments

Six inch heels at the beach? Is that encouraged these days?

In any event, Kate Beckinsale, her lucky husband, and the rest of the filmpressarios are currently enjoying the San Sebastián Film Festival, which runs through Saturday September 30. In this episode, we decided to take a closer look at the Basque town known as Donostia:

Where To Stay:
Villa Soro 25 room Villa Soro is a five minute walk from Zurriola beach, and close enough for a Guggenheim Bilbao day trip, but a bit of a trek (20 minutes) to the center of town, which makes it a quiet hotel.  As per usual, we always look to stay a bit outside of town when you are visiting during festival times, especially if you are looking for a bit of quiet.

Where To Eat:
This town likes their sea urchins raw and their portions small--to save room for plenty of booze--fair enough. It is important to not, while the food here is all about tapas, tapas aren't tapas in San Sebastián, they are pintxos, the Basque word for tapas--got it? For a good intro to these tiny, tasty pintxos, try La Cuchara de San Telmo (@ Calle 31 de Agosto, 28) in the towns Old Quarter.

Where To Get Drunk:
Here's the deal--if you do it the Basque way you will end up on an all night txikiteo, walking from pintxos bar to bar nibbling on spider crab and mini-croissants and sampling plenty of alcohol at each bar. Bar Ganbara (San Jerónimo, 21), which specializes in mushroom pintxos, is another well-known place to nibble and booze, but the key is sample as much as you can.
