While Obama's In Oz, Travolta Pops Up On Qantas

November 17, 2011 at 2:30 PM | by | Comments (0)

The never-ending saga of Qantas and the rebuilding of a reputation continues and today the process got a boost. While Barack Obama was touring Oz, John Travolta made a surprise appearance on a flight from Sydney to Melbourne. He wasn't a passenger but he was in the business class cabin of the B767.

We know that the Saturday Night Fever star is a world ambassador for the flying kangaroo and actually has a retired Boeing 707 parked in his driveway. We also know that he has been featured as a captain in the in-flight safety announcement. Now, he turns up to present the most frequent flyers with Qantas' top status, Platinum One. Unfortunately, this was a one-off presentation; he was just in town for a 91st birthday bash Qantas decided to throw for the elite status flyers.

'Pan Am' Will Take Off in John Travolta's Boeing 707 This Week

October 24, 2011 at 2:18 PM | by | Comment (1)

John Travolta might not be any use to KFC, but he does have something that the producers of Pan Am want.

In the pilot episode of the hit ABC show, Long Island's Republic Airport filled in for a Cuba airstrip, and this week it will play Haiti for a scene in an upcoming episode.

The cast and crew will spend three days (October 26-28) shooting night scenes on the airport tarmac, which are to be taking place during a 1960's coup.

They'll also be using a special aircraft for the shoot: John Travolta's Boeing 707. The plane normally sports the Qantas Airlines livery, but, for the scenes, will be covered in a vinyl wrap bearing the Pan Am markings.

The plane was expected to arrive at the airport yesterday, but so far there's been no word on whether or not Travolta delivered it himself.

KFC Won't Even Let John Travolta Book a Private Table

October 20, 2011 at 2:53 PM | by | Comments (0)

Apparently even A-Listers can have trouble getting good service at fast food restaurants.

Despite the fact that there were a number of 4-star London restaurants, like The Ledbury, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, and Hix just an hour away, John Travolta decided KFC was the way to go while visiting West Sussex last weekend.

Travolta was in the area to attend an annual Scientology event in East Grinstead Friday when one of his reps called a local KFC and asked if they could book a table for the star and his guests.

John Travolta Is Now Set To Sing The Praises of Bombardier

September 27, 2011 at 8:28 AM | by | Comments (0)

It’s pretty clear that John Travolta isn’t too shy when it comes to his love for Qantas, but now it sounds like he’s getting himself into an airplane love triangle. Qantas now needs to share Travolta, as the actor just signed a deal to help Bombardier promote some of their latest jets.

He’ll be tasked with showing off the goods when it comes to what the Learjet, Challenger, and Global business jets can offer to passengers—and rich people. The actor-slash-pilot has a couple Bombardier planes in his hangar back at home, and we’re pretty sure he’s spent some significant time in the back of a private jet as well.

The Video That Pissed Off Qantas Flight Crew, Starring John Travolta

Where: Australia
March 23, 2011 at 9:28 AM | by | Comment (1)

SCROLL DOWN in above window FOR VIDEO (automatically starts)

What do you call a whole bunch of lions? A pride. What about a group of barracuda fish? A battery, which sounds like it has awesome band name potential ("The Barracuda Battery!"). So then what is the proper term for a plane-ful of flight attendants and other airline staff? A crew, if you know what's good for ya.

According to the Telegraph, some in-flight crew over at Australia's Qantas are pissed at John Travolta for calling them a "team" in a new in-flight safety video. Travolta, who owns a vintage Qantas Boeing 707 and is an official (though special flights-only) pilot with the airline, appeared in the video (shown above) to get passengers' attention for the safety demo. !

All of Australia Desperate to be on Oprah

Where: Australia
November 11, 2010 at 2:48 PM | by | Comments (0)

When Oprah Winfrey announced at the start of her final TV season that she'd be taking all 300 members of her audience on a trip to Australia, flown on a Qantas plane piloted by John Travolta, more people than just those 300 audience member celebrated. In fact, the whole country of Australia is more than a little jazzed about the upcoming visit, and thousands of locals are seeking tickets to the shows while thousands other business apply to be featured on it.

In addition to taking her audience around Sydney, Oprah will sit tight for a week, filming two episodes at the Sydney Opera House. The "Oprah's Ultimate Australian Adventure" episodes will air in January, when Australia is all sunny and summery and the United States is in the midst of the cold, dark winter. Think many viewers will plan an Australian vacation because of it? You betcha.

John Travolta Jets Down Under for Qantas' 90th Anniversary

Where: Australia
November 8, 2010 at 3:30 PM | by | Comments (0)

If you haven’t been paying attention to the news from down under, Qantas is having a little bit of trouble with some of their big birds—including both the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380. Thankfully through the skills and professionalism of their pilots, Qantas has avoided any potential disasters. With engines kind of blowing up in the air, now doesn’t seem like the best time to party, but despite the bad news, Qantas is going full speed ahead with their 90th anniversary celebration.

The airline is pumped to let everyone know that they’re one of the world’s best airlines, and they’ve set up online slideshows, podcasts, and videos to help Qantas fans take a trip down memory lane. Our only recommendation is to not click on the food and wine slideshow, as the pictures of in-flight dining and vintage menus are just going to make you jealous.

Take A Trip On the Pelham 1 2 3, Or Do Everything But

June 12, 2009 at 12:37 PM | by | Comments (0)

Today marks the nationwide release of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. This remake of the 1970’s classic stars Denzel Washington as a New York City subway dispatcher who finds himself up against a bitter ex-con (John Travolta) that hijacks one of the trains. The movie takes place and was filmed primarily within the NYC subway system, giving the rest of the world a look at the underbelly of New York City. Here’s a guide to getting on the subway and where to go when you get off.

Where to Eat:
One of the film’s most prominent locations is Grand Central Terminal, no big surprise since the movie is about the city's underground transportation. Yet the dining options at Grand Central are quite refined. Grand Central has a huge selection of restaurants and nearly every table offers a perfect view for people watching. From the upscale Cipriani Dolci to an array of delis and coffee shops, there’s also something for every budget.

Classic NYC Movies: Disco To Brooklyn With John Travolta

February 14, 2008 at 3:30 PM | by | Comments (0)

Visit our Classic NYC Movies Map to get your groove on.

When we say "Brooklyn" in 2008, you probably think of hipsters, Park Slope mommy wars or Jay-Z. In the seventies, audiences everywhere were transported to a different Brooklyn, where Tony Manero (John Travolta) lived to rule the dance floor with his slick friends in "Saturday Night Fever." Whether you love the Bee Gees or think disco is the soundtrack to hell, you've probably done the "Stayin' Alive" strut down the street at least once... Admit it!

"Saturday Night Fever" was shot largely in the working-class community of Bay Ridge it portrayed, including external shots of the Manero house at 221 79th St. Sadly, the disco where Tony worked it, 2001 Odyssey, has since become what looks like a parking structure on Google Maps, but before that it was a working gay club called Spectrum.

You can still climb on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, but Jaunted does not endorse doing this. The Brooklyn of the '70s has almost disappeared, but "Saturday Night Fever" lives on.

Florida Says John Travolta's Bird Is Too Big

July 23, 2007 at 8:58 AM | by | Comment (1)

With summer air travel getting even more out of control, it's nice to fantasize about having a jet of one's own. Gourmet meals, a row to yourself, the knowledge that your plane will leave on time... oh, the comforts money can buy. Of course, once you get your plane, you need a place to land it -- which, as John Travolta is discovering, can be an insurmountable hurdle.

An avid pilot for years, Travolta likes to park his Boeing 707 in Ocala, Florida, where he has his own taxi way and runway near his $8 million home (and the Clearwater world headquarters of Scientology, incidentally). Too bad for the actor that Greystone Airport, which oversees his runway, has told Travolta his bird no longer welcome at the airport. The plane was deemed too big, and is causing major damage to the runway. Guess Travolta will spend his summer vacation in the security line with the unwashed masses landing his Hummer like plane at one of his other homes.
