All Sorts of New Stuff for JetBlue Includes Premium Seats

March 25, 2013 at 8:57 AM | by | Comments (0)

Just when you think you know an airline, they go and change up all kinds of stuff. JetBlue isn’t revamping their whole system anytime soon, but at a recent analyst day they did reveal some secret plans they’ve been working on behind the scenes. Thankfully a lot of the stuff—if not all of it—sounds like a plus, so the free blue chips and free sodas are going anywhere anytime soon.

We knew the airline was hard at work refining their in-flight WiFi technology, and now it sounds like they’re getting closer to flipping the switch for the very first time. The name of the new service will be "Fly-Fi," and there’s even a snazzy little logo letting you know that things are powered by exede internet—nice.

JetBlue is claiming that their new service will be smarter, newer, faster and better than anything else up in the skies, and it should be arriving by the end of the year. There’s been rumors that the WiFi will be complimentary for all aboard the plane; however, we haven’t seen any confirmation regarding that just yet.

New Routes on the Docket from Hawaiian, American and Delta

March 8, 2013 at 9:02 AM | by | Comments (0)

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· American Airlines:
They are still waiting on the necessary approvals and paperwork from various government agencies, but when the stamps and seals come through it’ll be good news for American Airlines. They’re thinking about heading down to Brazil, as they look to connect both Los Angeles and Chicago with São Paulo.

If all goes according to plan it’ll be LAX scoring the flights first, as it sounds like they want to get those up and running by the end of this year; however, for fans of Chicago-O’Hare you’ll just have to be patient. Those flights probably won’t hit the skies until later in 2014. At least at that point you’ll probably have the snazzy new livery and logo all over the outside of the plane.

· JetBlue:
For those snowed in over in the Windy City this week it’s probably a good time to start dreaming—or acting upon—a warm weather escape. JetBlue feels your pain, and they’re getting ready to do something about it. Unfortunately the sun and the sand aren’t arriving immediately, but they are working on getting it to you a little later this year.

The plan is for JetBlue to start nonstop flights between Chicago-O’Hare and San Juan beginning on November 20. The flights will head back and forth each and every day of the week, and if Puerto Rico isn’t your final destination that’s not a problem. JetBlue has plenty of connections to other Caribbean spots right out of San Juan—start stocking up on the sunscreen now.

New Routes from American, United, and JetBlue Get You Going

March 1, 2013 at 8:51 AM | by | Comments (0)

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· American Airlines:
Lately it’s all American Airlines all the time when it comes to airline news, after all they are shacking up with US Airways. There’s still plenty of time for new route news, as it sounds like American Airlines has their eyes on San Diego. June 12 will bring nonstop options between Miami and San Diego, and it's some Boeing 737s will do the flying back and forth between the two states and cities. The new routes don’t stop there, as American Eagle is also getting in on the flying fun. Two new spots down in Mexico will be an option out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, as there will be nonstop flights to both the airport in Hermosillo—Ignacio Pesqueira Garcia International Airport—as well as Zacatecas and their General Leobardo C. Ruiz International Airport.

· United:
There’s still plenty of winter left where we call home, but United already has the warmer months on the brain. The carrier is busy moving planes around to here and there, as they’re looking to launch a new seasonal route this summer. They’ll be flying nonstop between Newark and Traverse City—that’s in Michigan—beginning on June 29. The plan is to fly these flights back and forth through the end of August, and there should be three flights doing their thing each and every week. Don’t expect too much in-flight comfort here, as Embraer ERJ145s will be doing the flying. However, we can’t really complain when we get to where we need to be.

Hot breakfast sandwiches. Free WiFi. A power outlet for each comfy chair. A slick bar stocking all the good stuff for complimentary cocktails. Cheese plates. Private restrooms with showers. Macbooks.

Hello, this is airport heaven.

Though it kinda sounds like we've been describing an ultra-premium airline lounge for elite flyers at some exotic international airport, all this is in fact coming to a new lounge within Terminal 5 at New York-JFK, aka the home of JetBlue. It's to be called Airspace, and travelers will find it come May 2013 after security, near Gate 24.

Why You Should Care About Airbus' Great White Sharklets

February 21, 2013 at 6:04 PM | by | Comment (1)

No, it's not Shark Week, but airlines are a little obsessed with sharks right now. First there was the news that Lufthansa is testing a sharkskin-like material on their wings, and now JetBlue is flaunting the first Sharklets in the USA. Not baby sharks, sadly, but Sharklets, which is just a slick term for elongated wingtips stuck onto the ends of A320 wings.

Today JetBlue became the first US airline to send an A320 out into the skies with Sharklets, but why should you care?

Well, if you've ever taken a moment to reflect on how much fuel an airplane burns on a flight (900-ish gallons an hour for an A320) and then considered the impact that has on the environment, you'll want Sharklets on your plane.

JetBlue Has Free Flights and Teddy Bears for New Yorkers Tomorrow

Where: Various Locations [map], New York, New York, United States
February 6, 2013 at 9:43 AM | by | Comments (0)

JetBlue will give away more Vermont Teddy Bears and free flights tomorrow when it launches its own version of the Amazing Race in New York City.

Tomorrow from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, JetBlue will provide clues via Twitter (@jetblue) on the hour every hour that represent the 10 most romantic locations in the city, including places in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. Each spot will be marked with a four-and-half foot tall Big Hunka Love Bear from Vermont Teddy Bear (trust us, you can't miss it). The first person to show up at each location and correctly use the secret code word that’s Tweeted along with the clue will win the bear and two roundtrip flights to any JetBlue destination.

So, in theory, you could have up to ten roundtrip tickets for two in your hand by the end of the day tomorrow if you're really good, although having the locations spread out across the city pretty much prevents that. Still, snagging even one pair of tickets would make one hell of a gift for your Valentine (or instantly make you one of the more eligible bachelors/bachelorettes in the city). You can feel good about your fortune as well: Each winner will also receive a pair of roundtrip tickets to donate to a charity of their choice.

JetBlue Knocks 80% off Flights from New York with Juicy 'NYCFlightWeek' Deals

January 28, 2013 at 2:24 PM | by | Comments (0)

Woooo hoo! #NYCFlightWeek has arrived! We didn't know what it was until noon today and now we can't imagine our life without it because it's already saved us a boatload on a dream winter trip. No joking. Listen up.

#NYCFlightWeek begins on Twitter, when the @JetBlue account tweets that 12pm EST is the time to watch for, at which point they'll tweet the link to the day's special 80% off airfares. Each has a promo code that strips the 80% off published airfares right on their official JetBlue.com site.

Today was the first day and it'll continue all through the rest of the week. So, what's the verdict? Judging from the first destination offerings of St. Maarten, Liberia, Costa Rica and Fort Myers, FL, travelers who can drop everything and jet off this or next week are in for some unbeatable deals. That's the only problem—there's limited availability on seats and dates, so travelers who are most flexible will be the ones to really cash in on NYCFlightWeek.

January 22, 2013 at 11:20 AM | by | Comments (0)

In case you've ever wondered what it'd be like to create a video using Instagram filters and common Insta themes, like, say a day of travel viewed through airplane windows and selfies, then have we found the music video for you.

It's the video for the song "Paradise" by Wild Nothing and directed by Matt Amato. The YouTube description is simple: "A story of plane travel and waterfalls starring Michelle Williams," but we can't help to try and figure out the airports and airline traveled by Ms. Williams.

It's Air China, JetBlue and Etihad with This Week's Newest Routes

January 18, 2013 at 8:33 AM | by | Comments (0)

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· Air China:
The government paperwork is still in the mail, but if things go as planned then Air China will be touching down over in Houston. The plan is to link Houston with Beijing as frequently as four times per week, as Air China wants to start heading back and forth beginning on July 11. Boeing 777-300s will do the heavy lifting across the globe, but there’s no doubt that it’s going to be a long haul to get where you’re headed. Air China is buddies with United thanks to the Star Alliance, so we’re pretty sure that Houston is a great place to help domestic flyers hook up with their new Air China connection.

· Etihad:
If you’ve had enough of Europe then give Etihad a call, as they want to get you from Amsterdam to Abu Dhabi once you’re done doing your thing over in the Netherlands. The plan is to start the new flights just in time for the busy summer travel season, as May 15 is the day that they’ve circled on their calendars. Airbus A330s look to be the planes of choice for this new option, and Etihad will team up with KLM to market the flight as a codeshare option too.

It's Not a Flashmob, but JetBlue Sings Travel-Themed Holiday Carols

December 21, 2012 at 9:57 AM | by | Comments (0)

It might not be as polished and clean as some of those overly planned "flashmobs" at the airport, but when it comes to holiday greetings—JetBlue knows what they doing.

The airline's most festive crew penned a little set of lyrics to the tune of Jingle Bells, and they made it all about what to do at the airport to keep your holiday stress-free. Initially it was just words on paper, but after a request over on Twitter it was time for JetBlue employees to put on their Santa hats and sing for the masses.

New Routes Coming Your Way Thanks to United, Hawaiian and US Airways

December 21, 2012 at 8:49 AM | by | Comments (0)

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· United:
March 2 is the day that United is planning to link San Francisco with Ft. Lauderdale, so if Florida is in your plans for spring break you’re all set. It’s only an option on Saturdays when things start up, but as of April 9 the plan is to offer the flights up and each every day of the week. Just remember to pack your sunscreen, as you’ll need it.

· Hawaiian Airlines:
If you’re looking to escape the sunshine of Southern California for the sunshine of Hawaii—you’re in luck—as Hawaiian Airlines is getting ready to boost some of their flights this summer. They already fly plenty of planes and people between Los Angeles and Maui, but now even that route is getting a little boost. Boeing 767s will be heading back and forth two times per day during most of the summer. The first daily flight runs between June 13 and August 25, and the second LAX to OGG flight does its thing between June 20 and August 14. We’ve got to say that you can never have too many flights over to Hawaii, so we only see an upside to this announcement.
