Don't Drop Your iPhone From a Plane, Or Okay, Maybe Do
It's a pretty safe bet that if you've got an iPhone, that you've also got a story for how it was completelyor completely notdestroyed. It's the new bar story, a perfect conversation starter, especially if you've got an epic tale like U.S. Air Force Combat Controller Ron Walker's. Walker wrote to The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) to say that his iPhone 4 survived a 1,000-foot drop from an airplane.
Granted, the airplanes you're flying on are probably traveling much, much higher than 1,000-feet up; think closer to 35 times that. Regardless, Walker's story beats our own where our iPhone fell into a Las Vegas hotel pool (a cold one in December) and our subsequent sealing it in a bag of rice saved it. But! It we do have one thing in common with Walker: both our iPhones slipped out of our pockets.

Apple Developing Own Travel Planning App
How attached are you to your travel planning iPhone apps like Kayak or TripIt? Hopefully not too much, because Apple has filed a patent for their own travel app seemingly to blow these third party apps out of competition.
The US patent office published the patent applications last week and they were unearthed by Unwired View. There's also plans for a hotel booking and one for high fashion retail in the works from Apple, because they obviously know where the money is. The travel one however is what we're focused on.

iPhone 4's FaceTime Video Calling Works on Airplanes with WiFi
And now for your daily dose of "oh, that's pretty cool": the Apple iPhone 4's new "FaceTime" video calling feature even works from an airplane at 35,000 feet. The Unofficial Apple Weblog received such a call from a reader and was able to record it, and it shows them successfully FaceTiming with the man, who's onboard an American Airlines flight somewhere high above Arkansas.
Like Engadget is saying, this little video is like the iPhone 4 FaceTime commercial "Apple forgot to make." Totallyforget those sign language and "you're going to be a daddy" FaceTime spots; this is the way to our heart.
