Put on Your Thongs! It's Australia Day

It's celebration time in Australia! The entire nation has taken the time to wish the country a very Happy Birthday in what can be called the equivalent to our Fourth of July, Australia Day. This holiday is the national day for Aussies all around the world and as you would expect, BBQs, beach and brews are part of the fun of the long weekend. Today (Monday) is Australia Day, observed.

One of the biggest celebrations is at the iconic Bondi Beach where the iconic flip-flop maker Havaianas attempts to break a world record for the largest amount of people on a beach with inflatable—you guessed it—flip-flops. (Here's a tip: if you're down under, call them "thongs")

Just What the World Needs: Havaianas Flip-flop Vending Machines

France has them for baguettes, Amsterdamn's Schipol has them for welcome home banners, and now the vending machine fun arrives on the shores of Australia. We're not talking a machine full of boomerangs or koalas.

The world famous Brazilian flip-flop manufacturer, Havaianas, have made their rubbery comfort much, MUCH easier to buy. There are now a handful of official vending machines located around Sydney, Australia and its suburbs, primarily in shopping centers. With a sizing chart sticker on the ground, customers can pick from a variety of colors and four different sizes, naturally after sliding their credit card for $20.

World Cup Flip Flops are the Coolest Travel Accessory for Summer 2010

Whether you're staying in a hostel and need 'em for the shower or you're on a business trip and hoping for a little hotel pool time, flip-flops are must-have travel gear. Without a doubt, the hottest pairs to have this season are Havaianas' limited-edition range of World Cup-themed sandals, representing 17 teams—USA, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Argentina, Spain, The Netherlands, Australia, England, Paraguay, France, Japan, Italy, Portugal, Nigeria and Cameroon—and bearing their colors so that you can show support for your team from your soles up.

We first fell in love with Havaianas four years ago, and these nationalistic ones especially, during the last World Cup. Of course the blue-and-white Italia ones were sold out even before the team won, but we happily slipped into a pair of Deutschlands and we'll do it again with a fresh pair this year.
