Happy Halloween: 11 Tales of 2011 Travel Hell
Happy Halloween!
This annual holiday is pretty much one of the most polarizing; you either love Halloween and get totally into it, or you don't care for it at all and end up cranky. Regardless, we can name one thing absolutely no one likes, and that's being stuck in travel hell. Some flyers experienced it this weekend during the various delays, cancellations and diversions, but sometimes nothing compares to retelling old spooky stories...

How To Get Tickets To Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion Halloween Party
Kandy events is gearing up for their 5th annual Halloween Party at the Playboy Mansion, and it's not too late to be a part of it...if you're into that sort of thing. *wink
On October 28 & 29, the mansion grounds will be transformed into a haunted forest, haunted houses and graveyards. The Halloween party is notorious for being one of the biggest events held at the mansion all year and it never fails to bring out VIPs and celebrities in their sexiest costumes.
And, just in case a haunted mansion, celebs, playmates, and booze flowing all night long weren't enough to create the perfect LA party scene, LMFAO and DJ ATB will be providing the soundtrack.

Inside and All Around Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights 2011
Universal Studios Orlando is in the midst of its annual spooky-fest, Halloween Horror Nights. Each fall crowds converge on the park to experience the transformation; during the day the park welcomes guests of all ages to experience Shrek 4D, ride ET's bike, and hug Curious George while at nightfor 15 nights every fallthe park turns itself into a big screen-like horror movie.
Eight writers work year round to come up with the themes and schemes that inhabit Universal's annual Halloween Horror Nights. While the details, both cinematic and thematic, are incredible, you have to wonder if maybe the eight writers got a little too intricate with some of these ideas (Spanish fort run by a mutinous undead crew of Columbus' missing fourth shipwe are looking at you). After all this isn't Lost. However, despite some of the themes being a bit convoluted, some are just downright scary (Saws n' Steam), some are incredibly visually compelling (Nevermore), and some just might be the future of fright (The In Between house).
We toured all eight haunted houses and here's what we think, in order from scariest to not so scary:

Three of the Freakiest Theme Park Haunted Houses This Season
The leaves have been falling and the pumpkins are being added to fire escapes and front stoops across the country, and that means it’s time to hit the scary stuff at the theme parks. Halloween is the best time at many parks across the country, but if you’re looking for the scariest haunted house here’s three that are worth your time:
· Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios - The In-Between:
The scary stuff runs in both Hollywood and Orlando, but when it comes to the fright and fear the parks in Florida are probably your best bet. There are plenty of different atrocious attractions, but the one that sounds the scariest is the The In-Between. Apparently here your worst nightmares come to life, and it’s all done in 3D. Not only will you see your life flash before your eyes, but also you’ll be doing it all with a pair of 3D glasses. Tickets to this house—and plenty of other awful attractions—will set you back around $80; however, this is to both the scary stuff at night and the more tame attractions during the day.

Plan for Air-Powered Cannons and Trebuchets at Delaware's 'Punkin Chunkin'
There’s only a few weeks until we discover who will be crowned this year’s lord of the gourd, as the World Championship Punkin Chunkin competition is set to hit the skies from November 4-6. Each year there are more and more pumpkins serving as projectiles—as well as machinery dedicated to launching the orange orbs—so this might be the best year yet.
Unfortunately registration to launch your own pumpkin is now closed, but that’s fine with us as it’s probably better to just enjoy being a spectator. The main events take place where they always do—Bridgeville, Delaware—and the fun starts each day at around 7:30am. There’s live music, fireworks, and even a chili cook-off, but obviously the main attraction are the weapons of mass pumpkin destruction.

How to Get Tickets to Heidi Klum's 12th Annual Halloween Bash
When it comes to Halloween, Heidi Klum is the hostess with the mostest. Her legendary parties bring out celebs like Kim Kardashian, Michelle Trachtenberg, John Legend, and Brooklyn Decker, not to mention some over-the-top costumes.
This year Heidi is moving her 12th annual Halloween bash from NYC to Las Vegas for the first time. The party will be held at TAO on Saturday, October 29 at 10pm with DJ Questlove providing the perfect soundtrack.

Three Upcoming Pumpkin Festivals to Help Celebrate the Season
Somehow it’s already October, and while we’re still working on selecting a Halloween costume it’s definitely time to start planning for pumpkin season. There’s seasonal stuff all over the country, but here’s three picks to get your fill of jack-o-lanterns:
· Pumpkin Festival 2011 – Keene, New Hampshire:
This one might be the best of them all, and it’s up to you to help the festival retain its glory. There will be thousands of jack-o-lanterns on display as the night approaches, but organizers encourage—if not demand—that you bring your own to share and display as well.
The fun takes place on Saturday, October 22, between noon and 8:30 in the evening. You’ll want to get there early to enjoy all the different food and entertainment offerings including pumpkin bowling at 2pm, as well as to score a good seat to see all the pumpkins illuminated in the town’s Central Square. Admission is free, but they would appreciate a $10 donation—you know, to keep things running smoothly.

Got 'Visit a Haunted Mexican Village' on Your Bucket List?
The calendar just turned to September, but it’s already time to start thinking about the end of October and thus, Halloween. Stores already have bags of the sweet stuff lining the shelves in advance of trick-or-treat season, and the folks at Universal Studios are ready to scare us silly.
Out in Hollywood it’s only a few more weeks until the frightening bits move into the park, and as in past years there will be plenty of mazes, scare zones, and even a special "backlot experience."

Set Your Pumpkins Flying This Weekend at Delaware's Punkin Chunkin
If you’ve got a leftover pumpkin taking up space on your front steps or fire escape, we’ve got a suggestion on where to bring it. The annual Punkin Chunkin is taking place this weekend in Bridgeville, Delaware. There will be pumpkin recipes contests here—after all who can resist some pie—but the festival’s stars will be hundreds of devices attempting to launch pumpkins as far as possible.
This is the 25th anniversary of the festival, so expect teams to be even more prepared than usual. Not only will there be air-powered cannons, but there will be catapults as well as medieval replica trebuchets. The overall distance record is still standing from 2008—an air cannon shot a poor little pumpkin over 4,400 feet—so we’re hoping that this year someone can break the mile marker with their pumpkin launcher.

Three Ways to Celebrate 'Dia de los Muertos' at Home
Today, as you're coming down from your sugar high, don't forget you don't have to go far to get into the spirit of Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead.
Day of the Dead, celebrated each year on November 1, has traditionally brought families in Mexico together to pray at cemeteries for those who have died, usually their family members. You can recreate the tradition in your hometown by taking a drive through your closest ornate cemetery or searching for some of your ancestors' grave stones.

British Airways Loses Alice Cooper's Luggage, Fake Blood and All
Do you know why heavy metal legend Alice Cooper is so sad? It's because British Airways lost his luggage, a precious cargo of fake blood and other gory props destined to be a part of his "Halloween Night of Fears" show in London. Frankly, we're surprised he's traveled so easily all these years without encountering lost baggage problems, especially considering what he usually packs. Says RTT News:
...Airport officials were taken aback when Cooper detailed the contents of his misplaced luggage. The pieces reportedly contained fake blood used to simulate Cooper's death on stage along with an oversize needle, bones and skulls.

Halloween is for Parties, Road Trips and New Foursquare Badges
Okay, we know it's nowhere near as cool as getting the NASA Explorer Badge, but this weekend you might want to stay on the lookout for one of Foursquare's newest releases: the Spooky Swarm and Halloween 2010 badges.
This is travel-related in that Halloween, whether you realize it or not, is a huge weekend for small trips, usually as small towners head to party in the big city or people just road trip to get together with friends. And while all this is going down, please keep an eye out for any "Tara U. Clothesoff" or "Flirty Flight Attendants" lurking in dark corners.
