An Upper East Side Thanksgiving... In Texas?

December 2, 2008 at 1:30 PM | 0 Comments

Blair Waldorf would never approve! "Gossip Girl" guy Chace Crawford had some friends over to his parents' house in Dallas for Thanksgiving--notably costars Jessica Szohr (with whom his character is currently romantic linked on the show) and Ed Westwick, who were all spotted at Dallas-Fort Worth International on their way back to Manhattan. (Westwick is from Hertfordshire, England; Szohr hails from Menominee Falls, Wisconsin.) No Taylor Momsen? What a shame.

For one of them, though, the trip might have held some more significance: Ed and Jessica caught a later flight and were spotted "canoodling" out of "Gossip Girl" territory--though not out of range of their rabid fans. They even flew back together in coach! So what horrible name better suits this unholy pairing: Chunessa? JessEd? Brookhattan?

Smile and Fake It

December 2, 2008 at 9:15 AM | 0 Comments

Previously: The Van der Woodsens fled to Brooklyn for Thanksgiving, Vanessa pretended not to compete with Jenny for Nate's attentions and Aaron decides to be a one-woman man for Serena.

It's time for the Senior Snowflake Charity Ball! And everyone is whipped up into a frenzy about it. Serena and Dan have both decided to go solo... then Aaron's ex Lexi (Natalie Knepp, new enough to the scene that she still has a Facebook page under her real name!) shows up and makes things super awkward. Aaron is able to purchase Serena's cooperation by agreeing to go to the ball with her, but Lexi takes a shine to Dan and decides to accompany him... and she sleeps with guys on the first date. So Serena decides to sleep with Aaron afterwards too. Ooh, competitive sex!

Lily and Bart still haven't made up from their little Thanksgiving spat. Lily doesn't seem that concerned about it, but Bart assures her that he fired the private investigator. Too bad in an easily accessible drawer she discovers this invoice:

It's funny that he's tracking Aaron, but who's Jonathan Henry? And how do we get into this business?

Jenny isn't even going to the ball, nor is she re-enrolled in school, but she gets drawn into the drama anyway. After she finds out that Vanessa is sneaking away to see Nate on Gossip Girl, she helps junior meanie Penelope sabotage V. by giving her a dress that oh-so-happens to be see-through when you shine a light on it. Preparing to re-enter the world of Constance Billiard, perhaps?

And without the slightest compulsion to go with anyone else, Blair and Chuck decide to pick each other's dates for a little friendly wager. If Chuck likes his date, Blair gets the Sex Limo for a month. If Blair likes hers, Chuck gets Dorota's services. Blair enlists Dorota to find some girls ("On Facebook! I joined a bunch of groups!") who look just like her... not that any girl could replace her in Chuck's heart.

Finally, the ball! And the decor looks just like that gallery room where Dan and Serena slept together for the first time, which must be why that night is on their minds. After an awkward conversation, Dan tells her that no matter what he does with Lexi, that was "the greatest night of my life." And Serena agrees! Man, they are so not over each other.

Jenny's little sting works on Vanessa, but not to the effects she intended: The humiliation happens, but J. is caught at the last minute trying to stop Vanessa, putting her once again out of the mean girl circle. (She then threatens to return to school, which... is a given, right?) And even though Nate finds out about the letter Vanessa kept from Jenny, he still wants to be with his sweet Brooklynite, even though the costume designers continue to put her in hoop earrings. Seriously, what is with the hoop earrings? They are not edgy and they're a lazy trademark for a character who would be too cool to wear them in real life.

Blair and Chuck's plan also backfires, but hilariously! See, Blair found Chuck a faux-Blair, and Chuck found Blair a faux-Chuck. How close are they?

Who knew there were Bass knockoffs out there? That's the only kind we can afford... Then the doppelgangers make out, which only makes Blair angry because even they can work it out while she and Chuck can't. Chuck just looks into the distance and manages to make an Elvis-style sparkly jacket look hot. Oh, Chuck.

And Lily and Rufus are supposed to be chaperoning this business, but instead she's obsessing about her divorce and he's trying to express to her why he didn't try to stop the marriage. But meanwhile, across town, Bart is racing to her side... until he gets into an accident. And that's where it ends -- damn you, writers! Where is our comeuppance?

You Have A Family That Fights For You

November 18, 2008 at 9:20 AM | 0 Comments

Previously: Serena let herself be talked into an open relationship (which on this show is apparently code for "white slavery") with Creepy Aaron; Bart Bass tried to hide his wife's scandalous past; Jenny contemplated divorcing her parents; and Captain Archibald fled the country. "Nate the Not So Great"? It's not like it was his fault!

Who is that man with the cowl neck?

Four tales of family dysfunction here unfold, but only one of them involves the FBI. Captain Archibald is secretly back from Dominica and he wants Nate and his mum to go to the island with him. Or does he?! After Vanessa has a run-in with an FBI agent, Nate finds out his dad is actually planning to hold them hostage in exchange for money from his Vanderbilt grandparents to keep living on the lam. "If you can't do the right thing, I can't respect you," Nate tells his dad, for the benefit of Chace Crawford's Emmy reel. "You be a man and turn yourself in when they get here."

Previously: Jenny moved out to focus on her career as a designer and Serena met Creepy Aaron.

You Have To Admire Her Determination

November 4, 2008 at 9:15 AM | 2 Comments

"There Might Be Blood" but there's always drama where "Gossip Girl" looks. Keep it down to a level you can maintain with our Gossip Girl Map.

Previously: Nate took up residence with the Humphreys and kissed Jenny, who quit her job under the influence of Bad Model Agnes. And speaking of bad influences, Blair spent an entire show trying to get Chuck to sleep with her but eventually concludes (more on his side than hers) that they can't be together. Meanwhile, Serena meets a new guy--oh please oh please, let him have a dark sketchy past!

She's dropped out of school. She's dropped out of work. What's Jenny's next big plan for world domination? Staging a guerrilla fashion show by paying an unplanned visit to an Upper East Side gala. (She sneaks in by giving the name "Erica Van Der Woodsen"... because "sometimes they forget the A." Well played.) After kissing her, Nate is AWOL, but there's no time to dwell on it with a whole collection to plan.

Gossip Girl Off-Set Travel: Beware of Chuck

September 25, 2008 at 9:15 AM | 0 Comments

Spotted: A certain Upper East Sider going downtown to get lucky. Yup, that's Ed Westwick locked in an embrace with actress Drew Barrymore at a recent Kings of Leon concert at Webster Hall in New York.

While the Southern-fried band doesn't seem like the kind of music a Bass would really be able to rock out to, we're still hoping this scene is some kind of cameo. Would Chuck, force of destruction as he is, really go the cougar route right after his buddy Nate?

Adding to the mystery is the fact that Barrymore actually was spotted with Chace Crawford at last week's SNL afterparty. Sharing is for Brooklyn, boys!

Jaunted's Guide to Gossip Girl's New York

September 8, 2008 at 8:30 AM | 1 Comment

Like everyone else, we think the best thing about "Gossip Girl" are the icy quips so expertly delivered by Leighton Meester. But the most important character of the show is New York itself, the urban playground that the trust fund teens--and those who aspire to be like them--explore every week.

For more than a season, we've tracked where the girls go to gossip and where the guys go to gamble, but what corners of the city haven't the GG writers yet tapped? We've got a few ideas.

Fall TV 2008: "Every Parent's Nightmare" Returns Next Week

August 25, 2008 at 1:00 PM | 0 Comments

Jaunted is planning our fall travel with some help from the networks. Check out our Fall TV 2008 Map to go where your new favorite characters go.

OMFG! "Gossip Girl" season 2 premieres September 1 (8 pm, CW) and we are so excited. The New York drama following a clutch of privileged Upper East Siders captivated us last year, which is why it survived our TV Premiere series to become a regular feature here on Jaunted.

We've been tracking the cast all summer, which is how we know the premiere episode takes place in the Hamptons. That's also where the season 2 premiere party took place last week at EMM Group's The Estate in Bridgehampton, where on-screen frenemies Blake Lively and Leighton Meester were happy to pose for photos. We weren't at the bash--guess our invites were lost in the mail!--but we're suspecting that with VitaminWater as a sponsor, there wasn't a lot of tippling.

Other leaked locations for Season 2 include Brooklyn Heights and Columbia University, as the gang attends high school and goes on college visits, with Columbia in this case standing in for Blair's first choice of Yale.

Gossip Girl Travel: Connor Paolo Acts Out

August 11, 2008 at 9:35 AM | 0 Comments

Spotted: E. in a strange outfit looking rather... dramatic.

Filming for the second season of "Gossip Girl" has already started around New York, but at least one cast member is still living his alternate, non-Upper East Sider life. Through August 24, Connor Paolo, who plays Serena's brother Eric, is appearing in the Strain Theatre's production of "7 Stories," the tale of a man captivated by the inhabitants of a building he has chosen from which to commit suicide.

We caught the show this weekend, and we'll give Paolo this: The dual roles he takes in the play--as a British husband-to-be with a surprising secret and an energetic trend-watcher--are nothing like his turn as the recently out and step-brothered Van der Woodsen. After the show, he wasn't whisked away in a limo, but instead hoofed it down Bond Street with some friends. When was the last time a Waldorf walked anywhere?

The second season of "Gossip Girl" premieres September 1. You could go somewhere besides Jaunted for "GG" news and recaps, but why would you? You know you love us...

Hiatus Travel: Blake and Penn Go to the Movies

July 29, 2008 at 9:07 AM | 0 Comments

Did we attend the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York solely to catch a glimpse of Blake Lively and Penn Badgley? Well, we were hopeful! Their on-screen romance as Serena and Dan may be over, but Lively and Badgley are rumored to be more in love than ever when they're out of character. Lacking a "Gossip Girl" shooting schedule, we figured any boyfriend worth his salt would catch his girlfriend starring as the sporty one out of four best friends.

We were not disappointed! As Lively came up the aisle just before the movie started, Badgley stood in the middle of the orchestra section and watched her approach. He gallantly crawled over a whole row of seats clutching his popcorn to give her a kiss. The cheap seats squealed. And far be it from us to be homewreckers, but may we just say: The cheekbones are real, and they are spectacular!

We didn't see much of the red-carpet trawling, but Lively's costars Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Matthew Settle and Ed Westwick all showed up for the flick, whose prequel was made when "Gossip Girl" was still a book series and which was shot the July before the series premiere. Badgley was missing from the red-carpet photos, though, which suggests he snuck in to save Lively a good seat instead.

"Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" opens August 6, and if you liked the first one, you'll like this one.

Gossip Girl Travel: OMG Hamptons!

June 23, 2008 at 10:00 AM | 0 Comments

Ed Westwick recently got caught rocking some serious argyle on the Hamptons set of "Gossip Girl," currently shooting its second season.

While the shorty-shorts Westwick has been sporting in his off hours put off more than one of us, his fans can take comfort that the Brit will be hanging around New York for much of the summer as filming continues.

Catch Ed's band The Filthy Youth at Santos Party House, the new New York club co-owned by musician Andrew W. K. tomorrow.

Gossip Girl Hiatus Travel: What They're Doing on Their Summer Vacation

June 10, 2008 at 9:15 AM | 0 Comments

We spotted E getting cozy with his TV mom and Little J at the ballet, and now The CW Source reports the "Gossip Girl" cast is taking on more movie projects than their characters take expensive vacations.

Blake Lively has been filming in Connecticut with Robin Wright Penn, but on screen she's in Greece with her three best friends in "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" (out in August).

Matthew Settle, who plays her ex's dad, Rufus, is in Austin, Texas playing a bad ex-boyfriend to Joey Lauren Adams in the comedy "The Ex-Terminators."

And mysterious Chuck (Ed Westwick) is filming the dreaded sequel to "Donnie Darko," "S. Darko," in an undisclosed location. Hey, let's go look for him in our seersucker blimp! Martinis for everyone!
