Delta Gives Free In-Flight WiFi For The Holidays To Trick You Into Shopping eBay

If Google made a smart business decision by facilitating free holiday in-flight wifi on Virgin Americamore Internet users means more revenue for Googlethen the deal eBay just sealed with Delta is positively inspired. Starting Nov. 24 and lasting through a week, the auction site/retail outlet/digital store will be providing passengers with a free promotional code so they can get online via Gogo.
The only catch is that the first thing those passengers will see as they soar online through the crowded skies is the eBay frontpage. The better to do their holiday shopping, you see:

United Finally Debuts Some Airplanes With In-Flight WiFi
They are a little tardy to the party, but when it comes to in-flight WiFi, better late than never. Last week United Airlines began WiFi service on flights between New York and California. If you’re a United regular out of O’Hare you might just have to rely on the WiFi within the terminal for now.
The plane that they’ve equipped is a Boeing 757, and they are hoping to have 13 of them ready to go for in-flight fun by the middle of November. That means you’ll be able to email back-and-forth with your ride home for Thanksgiving to say that you’ve been circling the airport for the last 30 minutes due to runway congestion. If your flight isn’t delayed, you can always get a head start on your online holiday shopping.

You Can Now Surf Craigslist On 100 Of American's Planes
Gogo a-gogo! Last week, American Airlines reached a huge goal in regards to in-flight WiFi: the Gogo service is now installed and available on 100 airplanes!
Since the process to outfit their domestic fleet began back in August 2008, American has seen everything from twitter-happy travelers to an offer of free wifi for a month with a promo code, and even more fun is on the way. According to Today in the Sky, American continues to be on a roll with WiFi installation: "The airline has now made the Wi-Fi service available on 100 MD-80 aircraft, which is two-thirds of the 150 Gogo installations scheduled to be completed by the end of 2009, according to a company news release Thursday."

The FCC Is Cool With Row 44's In-Flight WiFi Satellite System
Most of our in-flight WiFi coverage has been focused on Aircell and their Gogo Internet service. However, there is another kid on the block, and Row 44 has been trying their best to gain some market share.
It's too bad Row 44 has had a slower start than their competition; after all, they have been teasing us with their goods for some time. At least they have partners like Alaska Airlines and Southwest, so they definitely have attracted some big business.

US Airways Announces They'll Have In-Flight WiFi In 2010
Today is a proud day for advocates of almighty in-flight WiFi, as a surprise dropped in our inbox this morning announcing that US Airways has signed up to equip its planes with Aircell's Gogo WiFi.
According to the press release. US Airways "has committed to install Gogo Inflight Internet service on its fleet of 50 A321 aircraft," and although we won't see working service onboard until early 2010, it's better late than never. And what's even better than finally have in-flight WiFi? Knowing for sure that your flight is equipped with it when booking your ticket.

AirTran Now Has Fleet-Wide WiFi But Watch Your Manners

Hurrah! AirTran has just completed WiFi installation in all of its planes, meaning whenever you fly on AirTran you will be able to connect to the internet via Gogo Inflight.
Pricing will be similar to other WiFi flights that use Gogo which means $9.95 for flights shorter than three hours, $12.95 for longer flights and $7.95 to connect with your mobile phone.
But don't sign on so fast. AirTran also wants passengers to behave themselves when using in-flight WiFi which is why they've introduced their Internetiquette tips. (Ugh.) AirTran will place a copy of Internetiquette: A Guide to Keeping Everyone In Line, While They're Online that AirTran in every seat pocket. You can also access these tips online (narrated by Peter Graves) on the AirTran website.
Some of the tips are funny, like don't surf and squat in the lavatory. Some are stupid like don't take picture of celebrities or "take their stuff and sell it at online auctions." And some are just whatever, like don't open up sensitive company emails on a plane. Uh...ok. Thanks?

Mark On AirTran Gets His Own Plane After 30 Days Of Flying
In the beginning of June, we asked if you'd ever spend thirty days straight flying around on the same airlines, like comedian Mark Malkoff was doing with AirTran.
Well on June 30, Mark finally (shakily) stepped onto solid ground, and along with accepting the Guinness World Record for most flights within 30 dayshe did 135he was welcomed with his very own plane. Well, it's actually just some special livery applied to an Airtran Boeing 717, and despite the cornyness, we kind of wish that every WiFi-equipped plane sported a logo as big as this one.

Gogo Goes With A Monthly In-Flight WiFi Plan, But Is It Worth It?
We love in-flight WiFi and you know we don’t try to hide it. That’s why we were stoked—if people use that word anymore—to hear that Gogo Inflight Internet is now offering a monthly pass. This is a great option for frequent fliers that are tired of shelling out $10 bucks or so every time they want to catch up on email, and it means that Gogo is going strong.
The Gogo 30-Day Pass will set you back $49.95 and is available now on Virgin America and Delta. However, your pass is only good for a single carrier, so you can’t use your monthly pass on both of the airlines. With Delta only having some of their planes equipped and no way to know if you're on one until boarding, we think Virgin America is the safer choice.
On the flip side of this move, this is just another bill we’ll have each month for Internet access. With access at home, on our phones, and now in the sky, we're doling out a lot of cash to stay connected. What do you think? Deal or no deal when it comes to Gogo’s new monthly connection plan? Let us know in the comments below.

Would You Live Aboard AirTran Flights For One Month?
Our answer, simply put, is "hell no." But for the next month, comedian and Colbert Report employee Mark Malkoff is doing just that; he's sleeping and eating and breathing air travel 24/7 in order to conquer his own fear of flying.
Now that he's already up to day four of his travels, which has thus far taken him from New York-LaGuardia to Atlanta to San Francisco to Milwaukee and more on AirTran, he's taken to keeping up a dialogue with followers on Twitter. From his @mmalkoff account, we learn that not only had he had an opthamologist board a plane to fit him for contacts, but that he's doing this month without an ipod or any music with which to zone out.

First! All Virgin America Planes Are Now Equipped With In-Flight WiFi
Perhaps all it took was a competitive nudge from Air Tran last week to push Virgin America to outfit their entire fleet with in-flight WiFi today, courtesy of Gogo In-flight Internet. And ahead of schedule too! The news straight from the press release:
As of today, guests on any of Virgin America’s 100 daily flights have the option to surf the Web, check e-mail, or log on to their corporate VPN – all from the comfort of their seats at 37,000 feet. Virgin America marks this in-flight WiFi milestone with another first for an airline: an air-to-ground Skype video call with Oprah Winfrey which will air this Thursday, May 21 on The Oprah Winfrey Show (check local listings).
This is especially great news for Jaunted because we just happen to be boarding a Virgin America flight to JFK later this afternoon. We'll be tweeting about it of course, so be sure to follow us. You never know what might happen when absinthe and WiFi collide!
Gogo In-flight Internet begins at $9.95 for flights shorter than three hours and $12.95 for longer flights. Connect via your mobile phone for $7.95 for the length of the flight.

AirTran Blows the Field Wide Open With Fleetwide In-Flight WiFi
Remember last month when AirTran launched their online comment box, asking for passenger submissions on what cool stuff the airline could do to win you over? Well, after more than 30,000 submissions and several weeks of anxious wait time, today the announcement came through: Fleetwide WiFi this summer!
Yes folks, this is the moment we've all been waiting for; airlines are in something of a race to equip themselves with the sweet, sweet internet and we're all set to reap the benefits. You may now access your approved electronic devices and conduct business as normal.
