It's No Ride on Air Force One, but You Can Follow President Obama on Foursquare
With a 747 and a fleet of other airplanes, helicopters and bulletproof vehicles at his disposal, the President of the United States really gets around. One of the most traveled presidents in history is the current one, President Obama, and though it seems a challenge to keep up with his itinerary when he squeezes several countries and world capitals into a few days, The White House has made it very easy with Foursquare.
Thanks to the location-based social media app, The White House can create lists of Obama's stops and offer these lists to be "followed," so that traveling Foursquare users can "check in" to a venue and see if the President preceded them there. It's all very cool, and of course each location includes a tip or note on what Obama accomplished in each place, such as speaking about job values at a BBQ joint in North Carolina.

The First and Only Place with One Million Foursquare Check-ins is...
No surprise here: the world's busiest/worst airport is now also the world's busiest Foursquare location. That's rightaccording to the Foursquare Blog, trusty, dusty Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International just became the first venue in the entire world to reach the milestone of 1,000,000 check-ins.
One million. Dang. it seems like only yesterday ATL was inching up on 500,000 checkin-ins; oh wait, that was in November 2011 when we measured the most popular airports on Foursquare, when LAX was in the lead. These days, LAX is still doing well and should break the million mark before spring is over (they're at 918,000 now), but it's clearly no Atlanta.

A Foursquare Map of the World

Foursquare has published a map that the company says shows the last 500,000,000 check-ins on the social media service. According to travel tech blog TNooz, the data comes from just the last three months of Foursquare usage. That means Foursquare users are checking in more than 150 million times per month. Neat.
Foursquare's actually been pretty good about sharing some of the data collected by the game (does it still count as a game; it used to be a game, right?) Last summer the company unveiled a list of the most visited global landmarks according to Foursquare users. The data was a little skewed - it's not really the world's most visited landmarks, as much as the landmarks most visited by the small part of humanity that uses Foursquare - but again, it's kind of a neat to peek into tons and tons and tons of data.

So, for locals who'd like to stay as far away from all that as possible, or for visitors who want to know where all the action's at, location-sharing social app Foursquare has tapped their stats to discover the busiest venues around London:

Foursquare Gets Arty Farty with Philly and Launches Two New City Badges
So you've checked into bookstores, bars, beaches and maybe even individual boats, but that's still not specific enough for the location-based social app Foursquare. Now, Pennsylvania, the state that was first to join up with Foursquare years ago has become the first to offer official art piece venues, meaning you can check into a masterpiece (and win something!).
The focus is on Philadelphia and its Museum Miles that encompasses the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Barnes Foundation; these plus other Philly-area institutions have pinpointed a total of 12 works of art designated as official Foursquare check-in venues. Currently, the Seurat painting above is winning with most check-ins, but you've still got until September 1 to get in on the game.
Simply check into the masterpieces and push the checkin, plus the hashtag #withartphl, to Twitter to get in the running for the grand prize of a hotel night in Philly, tickets to the museums and a Barnes Foundation membership.
