Jaunted reader ultraclay! has just dropped more photos in our Flickr pool, and we love, love, love this shot.

While this picture was made on the sly--so we don't know this guy's backstory--we like to think that he's been on a super-bender in Tokyo that's just coming to an end. To snap in your own candid shot, hang around bustling Shiodome with your camera on the ready.

Travel Snapshot: Baseball in Japan

Where: Tokyo, Japan

Flickr user ultraclay! just dropped a bunch of photos into the Jaunted Photo Pool, and we were particularly taken by this snap from a Yomiuri Giants game in Tokyo. What makes Japanese baseball so special?

The entire experience was fun and culturally very interesting, but the best part has to have been the beer girls. Unlike stadiums in the US where pisswater beer is poured and then carried around until you finally get it, warm and flat, this beer is always fresh. That's because they pour it in front of you... from a keg... on their back! Yeah, really.

Why are we still going to games in the states?

Have your own travel snapshots? We'd love to see 'em.

Travel Snapshots: The Geekiest Photos We've Ever Seen

Tired of bland snapshots? Let your inner geek run wild with a Google Image Search template. Just print it out, cut out the little windows and you're ready to go.

The person who thought this up--as far as we can tell--did a series in Stockholm, but our buddies at Geekadelphia turned us on to the idea with a similar template for their hometown. Download it and tweak it to fit your destination in just a couple minutes with Photoshop or another image editor.

Once you've got your geektastic photos, won't you drop 'em in the Jaunted Flickr Pool?

Travel Snapshots: The Statues of Liberty on Parade

Where: Columbus Circle [map], New York, NY, United States

We spotted this painted lady outside the Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle. In the tradition of the Cows on Parade, the Zurich public-art project featuring hand-painted statues of cows, Major League Baseball has planted several Statues of Liberty with new paint jobs throughout New York.

Eventually there will be 42 miniature replicas of New York Harbor's grand madame around town. (Find them yourself or download the MLB-provided map.) You can also buy wee versions of the ladies Liberty, but where's the fun in that?

Deltalina Returns!

Delta's marketing sensation, flight attendant Katherine Lee, made a huge splash when she appeared in the airline's new safety video. And now she's back, prettying up the carrier's newish Flickr page. (That's "American Idol" singer Josh Gracin at right.)

You can also get more of Katherine on Delta's YouTube channel, where she hosts a new video guide to Atlanta. Something tells us it might rack up more views than this marginally useful guide to Paris. Check it out post-click.

The World's Best Communist Subways

6/02/2008 at 10:45 AM
Tags: , , (all tags)

Wired has a gallery featuring photos of some of the world's "most impressive" subway systems. Moscow clearly wins best in show with "chandeliers, marble moldings and elaborate murals" in some of the city's stations. Opulent subways must be a Communist thing, because Moscow's seems quite similar to the infamous Pyongyang Metro in North Korea.

Perhaps Pyongyang's public transit system was missing from Wired's list because foreigners are only allowed to tour it on closely guarded single-station trips. Still, the photos that have emerged from the secretive North Korean subway show more chandeliers, marble columns and great propaganda murals such as "The Great Leader Kim Il Sung Among Workers."

If seeing inspirational artwork during your morning commute doesn't get your day started off right, maybe you'd prefer a refreshing river cruise?

Nude Travel: Be Suspicious When You Strip

5/30/2008 at 11:45 AM

Caveat nudus. You may dream of flying in the altogether or cruising commando, but the people around you might not agree to demurely look away.

Blogger Erin of brieflynoted took a photo of what she believed was an old woman sitting naked in Brooklyn's Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park. No one could have been more surprised when the individual in the picture, a man who claimed to be wearing a yellow thong, found her photo on Flickr and left her a comment.

The subject didn't seem that embarrassed, but we hope our blurry outlines never turn up on the photo sharing site. Makes us long for a nice, prudish beach.

Travel Snapshots: Skybus Lives on in Photos

In other imploded-airline news, Skybus isn't as gone as you may think. We're still parsing all the will-they-won't-they comeback rumors, but in the meantime, you can reminisce about the short-lived ULCC on Flickr.

The Skybus Airlines Group has a big inventory of plane porn. You'll find shots of anything from the A319 wingtips to ex-CEO Bill Diffenderffer posing with his FAs. Big-time plane spotter DRust--whose photos have appeared on Jaunted--is the group admin.

You'll also find some not-so-nice Skybus memories on Flickr. You'll remember that when the carrier declared bankruptcy, it straight up stopped flying, stranding some passengers away from home. Flickr user JDuffey posted a comment-of-the-times in response to someone telling him "Sadly they went out of business today!":

I thought you were joking but it appears to be true. How am I going to get home now?!
