How To Get Tickets To The 2011 ESPY Awards in LA

June 28, 2011 at 8:51 AM | by | Comments (0)

Getting tickets to award shows is usually somewhat difficult, but there’s one award show where a little visit to Ticketmaster is all you have to do to score a seat. Alright it’s not exactly the Academy Awards, but there’s nothing better than the ESPYs if you’re looking for overpaid athletes teaming up with cliché-chattering sportscasters.

It seems like just yesterday—to us at least—that ESPN was hawking its very first edition of the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards, but the award show has been going on for just shy of 20 years now. In the beginning the awards were held in New York City, but now the thing is primarily a West Coast affair. This year’s shindig—complete with host Seth Meyers—is set for Los Angeles’ LA Live on Wednesday, July 13. The Nokia Theatre is where it’s all happening, and there’s still a few ticket options available.

Virgin America, Singapore Airlines Take Tops In Condé Nast Traveler Awards

October 16, 2009 at 9:50 AM | by | Comments (0)

Last night in New York (the unfriendliest city in the nation, according to results), Condé Nast Traveler held the awards reception for their 2009 Readers Choice Awards, hosted by Stanley Tucci and Mary Louise Parker and seeing big wigs like Richard Branson and David Cush (of Virgin America) in attendance.

This year, 25,000 of CN Traveler's readers voted for their favorites in such categories as best cruise line, best Asian city, and even top car rental agencies. While with some winners, we wonder how they even got on the ballot (Capri is one of the best European islands? Maybe 20 years ago), we absolutely saw no competition for some of the winners (Singapore Airlines took tops in international airlines again}.

While reading the winners after the jump, keep in mind that Traveler's demographic skews a bit older and affluent, so seeing the Hotel du Palais in Biarritz take Top European Resort even though it feels like no one's been there in eighty years is not so surprising, as is the fact that the Four Seasons positively cleaned up in some hotel categories.

Award Show Travel: Katy Perry Is Cakesexual

October 20, 2008 at 8:50 AM | by | Comments (2)

Singer Katy Perry attacks a pastry the way she assaulted our ears last summer with her number-one hit at the Premios MTV Latinoamérica last Thursday night.

Perry didn't win any trophies at the seventh annual edition of these video music awards, but she did celebrate the end of her set by jumping into the giant cake. It was probably a rehearsal for the MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool, which she's hosting. Yes, even in Liverpool girls kiss girls and like it.

Big winners of the night were Medillin, Colombia singer Juanes (4 awards), German pop outfit Tokio Hotel (3 awards including best ringtone) and Rihanna, who was garlanded best female fashionista.

Emmys: Great For LA, Bad for Jersey

September 17, 2007 at 9:00 AM | by | Comments (0)

Katherine Heigl (Best Supporting Actress in a Drama) and America Ferrera (Best Actress in a Comedy) were among the many garlanded  at the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards last night. Yes, we fell asleep a few times, but the show sure beat those VMAs!

The Emmy Awards can claim many champions tonight, having given out some 34 awards just in last night's telecast. One place perhaps affronted: Westwood, New Jersey, home of James Gandolfini, who shared in "The Sopranos"' win for Best Drama but was passed over for Best Actor. (It went instead to James Spader, for his work on "Boston Legal," coincidentally, the city of his birth.)
