More Mexico for Virgin America, and That's Just the Start of New Route News

July 15, 2011 at 9:09 AM | by | Comment (1)

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· Virgin America:
It’s time for another new route from Virgin America, as the airline is planning to head down to Mexico some more—Puerto Vallarta to be specific—from its home in San Francisco. Don’t pack your sunblock and flip flops just yet, as it looks like the new flights won’t be kicking off until this winter. The airline actually just filed for permission from the US DOT to do their thing on this route, so details are still a little vague at this point. However, we assume that’ll only be a matter of time before fares are announced and that the booking will begin.

· Avianca:
If you need a break from all the kiddie antics of the Orlando area, look towards Avianca, as the airline just started flying between the middle of Florida and Bogota, Colombia as of July 12. They’re sending planes back and forth four times per week thanks to some help from their fleet of Airbus A319 planes, so there should be a way to fit something they offer into your hectic schedule. Flights leave Bogota bright and early in the morning—like around 9am or so local time—and the flights head back from Orlando in the afternoon. We just wonder if more people will be leaving Mickey Mouse or coming to visit him.

After traveling to Ecuador last year, my guy Jeff and I volunteered to give up our seats on a very overbooked Avianca flight from Bogota, Colombia back to New York City. The incentive: a total of four international airline vouchers, good for anywhere in the world that Avianca flies, plus a free night in the InterContinental Bogota Hotel. How could we pass up such a deal? We didn't.
