Smaller West Coast Towns To Get Lei'd in Hawaii, Thanks to Allegiant Air

March 9, 2010 at 10:31 AM | by JetSetCD | 3 Comments

What did we just say about the news that Continental was expanding their service from the US mainland to Hawaii? Well, it went like this: "How are the skies above Hawaii not mega-crowded with new flights coming in from all over?" And we wonder the same thing again after hearing that budget airline Allegiant, which normally sticks to vacation destinations in the continental US, like Las Vegas or Orlando, will begin flying to Hawaii on 757s bought from a European carrier.

And why is this big news? Well, Allegiant's plans for non-stops to Hawaii don't include your usual big airports like LAX; they'll instead be flying to the islands from smaller cities like Bellingham, Washington, Eugene, Oregon and Stockton and Monterey in California. These will bring a whole new traveler to Hawaii; the ones who maybe previously vacationed on the west coast, closer to home. But now with such convenient flights, Hawaii is totally an option. Will 2011 be the year that Hawaii reclaims the title of hottest vacation destination? Maybe, if Allegiant gets their bigger birds in the air by then.

Allegiant Air Sets Up Some New Digs In Michigan And They're Hiring

February 11, 2010 at 10:50 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

It’s been a few months since we checked out what’s going on with Allegiant Air, and things seem to be going well since they kicked some crying kids off one of their planes. The airline is continuing to bring in the cash, and there are probably a few suits that are pumped over the airline’s increased load factor. The cheap fares and no frills service are clearly getting plenty of butts into the seats.

With success comes expansion and Allegiant is looking to bring some of the low cost love to Grand Rapids, Michigan. They already had several flights coming and going per day, but now they have formally set up a new base there. The newest flight option out of The Wolverine State is Myrtle Beach. Love it or hate it the South Carolina uh, hotspot, will be a lot warmer than things up north when the flights kick off on April 30. We’d probably still prefer one of their Florida options like Tampa or Orlando—but that’s just us.

Allegiant Air Bounces Mom and Unruly Kids Off Flight

November 16, 2009 at 4:39 PM | by Omri | 2 Comments

If there's a faster way to generate angry comments than travel etiquette-related "airline penalizes individual to protect other passengers" posts, we certainly haven't heard of it. And while we don't expect this story to generate the kind of heat we get on our discussions of overweight seatmates, there is something a little disquieting about the cheering that goes on when unruly children get thrown off flights.

Don't get us wrong. Had we been in the cabin when Allegiant Air removed this mom, her screaming toddler, and her kicking 4 year old—we probably would have felt relieved and satisfied. Misbehaved kids are a capital-T Thing on long flights. We've got a whole Travel With Children category. We just don't know what the alternative is.

On one hand you want to say something like "other people also paid for the flight, and they're entitled to a decent amount of comfort and quiet." On the other hand you've got "well do you just expect every parent of every toddler to not travel any more?" There's definitely an argument that most travelers in most circumstances should just put on their noise-canceling headphones and deal.

Despite The Economy, Allegiant Air Is Hiring Like Gangbusters

September 2, 2009 at 9:09 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

If you’ve always wanted to get paid to travel and don't mind actually working for it, then you may want to check out Allegiant Air. The low cost carrier is hiring for all sorts of positions, so if you’d rather stay on the ground, they have might have an opportunity for you too. Best of all, the airline has actually been doing pretty well. They have been making money each quarter despite the travel slowdown, so for now at least, a job with them is probably somewhat safe.

Being a flight attendant may no longer be the glamorous position it used to be, but it’s still probably pretty cool, especially if you can score some travel perks when you’re not on the clock. Allegiant is looking for a few good ladies and gentleman to fill positions out of Mesa, Arizona. No college degree needed, but they say it would definitely be an asset. Just make sure to clear your schedule if you get a job, because you’ll be in Las Vegas for a four-and-a-half week training course. Hear that? First stop: Vegas.

Allegiant Makes A Good Case For Florida In The Summer

June 15, 2009 at 9:17 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

Florida gets pretty hot and humid during the summer, but the state has great beaches, the best theme parks, and the snowbirds won’t be back for many months. If you can stand the heat, make a plan to visit the Sunshine State and take advantage of The Florida Perfect Excuse Sale. Starting at just $29 each way, Allegiant Air will be happy to whisk you away for some fun in the sun.

Columbia, South Carolina is the only location offering the dirt-cheap rate, but there are many other cities with decent deals. Toledo residents can snag $49 rates if they missed out on the Jet America deals. The same price is available from Roanoke, Virginia and Knoxville, Tennessee.

Allegiant Air Is The New Flo Rida

April 10, 2009 at 11:30 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

C'mon you have to admit you're a little jealous that you didn't come up with the awesome rapper name of Flo Rida. No? Oh, that's just us then. But no matter. If Florida's in your destination plans, Allegiant Air will take you there. The airline is offering a pretty good sale on all their flights to spots in the Sunshine State as long as you book by April 22 and travel by September 30. Seats are limited and the rate isn’t available on all flights, so hurry up and book a trip before you miss out.

Allegiant Can't Calm Down With New Route Announcements

March 24, 2009 at 9:16 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

We’re having a little bit of trouble keeping up with all the new route announcements that Allegiant Air has been sending out. They just announced new flights from Myrtle Beach, Allentown, Pennsylvania, and even Los Angeles. Apparently if one thing sells during a recession, it’s cheap flights. Even if you don’t have any money left, you can always find some if you’re getting a really good deal—hello Coinstar machine.

Allegiant Air Continues Toward Domestic Dominance

March 4, 2009 at 9:56 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

Allegiant Air is keeping us busy with all their new route announcements. With their low cost model to vacation hotspots, it’s almost like they didn’t get the memo that the economic sky is falling. That’s fine with us, since we are more than ready to get out of here and take a quick break to somewhere warm. We don’t want to bore your with numbers, but they also just announced that their traffic was up almost ten percent when compared to February 2008.

Myrtle Beach is the airline’s newest destination, but to start, they’ll only be taking passengers from Tri-State Airport in West Virginia. The promotional rates will start at $39 each way, and they are offering service twice a week starting on April 30.

Allegiant Will Fly From L.A. In May

February 19, 2009 at 9:01 AM | by egw | 0 Comments

More new airline routes announced!

They've got stars in their eyes: Allegiant Air will be headed to Los Angeles next. The Cranky Flier was right!

The low-cost carrier based in Enterprise, Nevada takes off May 1 from LAX to Medford, Oregon, with more nonstops to follow priced between $59 and $99 each way. Who wants to go to Fargo with us? We'd love to get on that flight just to see who's going.

Truth is, Allegiant Air is still something of an unknown quantity to us, but since they're profitable, they must be doing something right. Have you flown Allegiant Air recently? And is it Southwest (capable of staying airborne in a difficult time) or another Skybus?

Where Is Allegiant's New Destination?

February 13, 2009 at 12:42 PM | by kjb | 0 Comments

Allegiant Air is giving a way a pair of round trip tickets to its newest sunny destination. The catch is that you need to successfully guess that new destination. The new flights will be non-stop from 12 smaller airports including cities in Washington, Colorado, Texas, and South Dakota. You only have about four days left to figure it out and submit your pick, but thanks to the Internet we have a couple guesses.

Allegiant Air Makes Mo Money, Has No Problems?

February 3, 2009 at 10:16 AM | by kjb | 0 Comments

In times like these, it’s hard enough to make a profit with any business. However, to do so in the airline industry, when everyone else is posting losses, is a pretty neat trick. That’s just what Allegiant Air did last month when they posted an $18.2 million Q4 profit.
