Allegiant Air's Big News? Oakland.
We were all in a tizzy to hear what Allegiant Air had in store for us this week, as they were teasing some news on their Facebook page. It wasn’t exactly like waiting for Santa to arrive, but we kind of thought they would finally reveal some new details about their plans for Hawaii. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case—we’ll continue to wait—but they did announce information on their plans for another pretty decent location.
Allegiant Air is ready to boost service to and from the Bay Area of California, as they now have Oakland on their radar. Folks looking for some cheap options in the East Bay will probably welcome the addition, and the airport is only a traffic-filled bridge away from the rest of the area’s residents. Allegiant has named Oakland their newest focus city, so that means like seven new nonstop options for everyone from Raiders fans to MC Hammer.

Emirates, Delta and Allegiant Do Their Thing to Deliver Some New Routes
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Emirates:
Get that loofah ready, as it’s time to shower at 35,000 feet. Alright, that might be a little premature, but Emirates is expanding their reach into the United States. Eventually they’re thinking that they’ll be utilizing plenty of Airbus A380s to whisk passengers here and there, but for now it’s going to be the trusty Boeing 777 doing its thing.
Dubai will be connected with Dallas as of February 2, and when March 1 rolls around it will be nonstop from Seattle to Dubai. Even if the Middle East isn’t your final destination, there’s plenty of connections, and it seems that Emirates has it figured it out when it comes to long-haul flying.
· Skywest:
For those looking to head to Yellowstone in the middle of the winter—good luck—but you can get there thanks to SkyWest. They’re connecting the airport in Cody, Wyoming with Salt Lake City flying under the Delta umbrella. There will be one flight a day this winter, and they’ll be serving the route with the ultra-comfortable CRJ200 regional jet. This route isn’t too popular when the weather turns chilly, so it’s actually subsidized by Uncle Sam and the Essential Air Service.

Lots of Hawaii, Mexico and Vegas Thanks To This Week's New Routes
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Virgin America:
We might have mentioned this earlier in the week, but when it comes new a new option from Virgin America it’s hard not too give it some extra attention. Get your sunblock and sombrero ready, as it’s time to head to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico from San Francisco. Just in time to escape your family holiday traditions, the new flights will run five times a week beginning on December 2. After 2012 begins the flights will drop down to four times a week, but we’re not complaining—adios!
· Hawaiian Airlines:
Residents of the East Bay no longer need to go across a bridge to get to Hawaii, because Hawaiian Airlines is bringing nonstop flights in and out of Oakland beginning early next year. Things will head between Oakland and Maui four times a week beginning on January 11, and it will all happen thanks to some of the airline’s Boeing 767 aircraft. No need to plan your visit during the winter either, as this service is scheduled all year long. Flights leave the Bay Area around 8am, and you’ll be in paradise just in time for lunch—with a side of Mai Tai.

They're Not Doing Hawaii Yet, But Allegiant Air Gets One Step Closer
Remember way back when, when we found out about Allegiant Air and their plan to bring cheap-o Hawaii flights to the masses? Unfortunately we’re not quite there yet, but we are one step closer to getting to paradise for just a song. The airline had to buy some new planes that could make it all the way to Hawaii—they’re Boeing 757s in case you were wondering—but until recently Allegiant Air hadn’t been flying them.
Uncle Sam—and his pals over in the FAA—just gave the airline the necessary stamps and approvals to start using their new planes, so now’s the time for them to hit the skies. Initially Las Vegas is the big winner, as Sin City will be welcoming vacationers and locals via nonstop flights from McAllen, Texas and Rockford, Illinois aboard these new planes.

So How Old Are the Airlines' Airplanes, Anyway?
It's been almost a good 10 days since the infamous hole in the Southwest plane incident, and now the public knows a whole lot more about airplane metal fatigue than they did last month. The specific Southwest Airlines aircraft that popped open like a soda can tab first began flying back in 1996, making it 15 years old.
So how old are the planes of other airlines? Leave it to the AP to do some digging, and the results may surprise you:

Allegiant Promises the Best Deal or They'll Buy Your Ticket
Although we haven’t got the chance to test out their seats and service for ourselves, we’re always eager to see what’s going on with Allegiant Air. Sure they nickel and dime with baggage fees, seat assignment charges, and other stuff, but they somehow do it in a nice way that doesn’t leave as bad a taste in our mouth as Spirit Air's approach.
We know they’re all about their low prices and low fares, but now Allegiant is setting out to prove it. This week they announced The Allegiant Low-Price Pledge, and it means that if you find an air and hotel package for less than what they’re offering, they’ll fly you there for free.

New Routes from Allegiant and Alaska Airlines, but Big Winner is Puerto Rico
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· AirTran:
If you need some time in the sun but lack a passport, Puerto Rico is always a good option. AirTran is starting up nonstop service between San Juan and another sunny destinations—Tampa—beginning on April 5 of next year. Tickets are on sale now, and there will be two flights each day. We’re going to need to brush up on our high school Spanish a little bit, but we’ve still got a little bit of time.
· Allegiant Air:
This November will bring a new destination into Allegiant Air’s route network, as the airline is bringing its vacation packages and cheap airfare to Savannah, Georgia. The new flights will start on November 18, and will run between the low country and Fort Lauderdale. As always the fares will be a pretty good deal, as introductory rates will start at just $30 each way. The new flights will run twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Delta:
Cancun is on Delta’s radar more than ever this winter as they’re adding a couple of new route options. The airline is starting up Saturday nonstop service from San Antonio beginning on February 19. They’re also starting up similar nonstop service from Tampa to Cancun just in time for winter with Saturday flights and the same February 19 planned launch date. Just make sure to visit before the spring break crowds take over.
· Allegiant Air:
It doesn’t have the nightlife of Fargo, but Minot, North Dakota is getting some new routes thanks to Allegiant Air. The cheapo carrier is adding twice-weekly flights between the city and Las Vegas this fall. Things should start up on October 22, and the one-way fares will start at just $70. There’s already options from Grand Forks and Fargo, so North Dakota seems to be covered when it comes to getting to Sin City for less.

New Routes and New Options for Fall from US Airways, Air Canada, and More
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Air Canada:
Airlines seem to be pretty eager to land even closer to Tokyo, as this year has brought several new flights into the city’s Haneda Airport. Now Air Canada is getting access to the more convenient airport, as they’re beginning service from Vancouver to Tokyo-Haneda. It will be once a day starting at the end of January, and the flights will go with Boeing 767-300ER jets. A quick look at our guide to in-flight entertainment reveals that the odds for a little seatback television is pretty good, so you won’t get too bored on this long-haul trip.
· US Airways:
If you’re looking to escape the Big Apple with the goal of visiting the country’s most popular national park, US Airways is now here to help you out. They’re starting up twice daily nonstop service from Asheville, North Carolina to New York-LaGuardia Airport, so you can visit Biltmore and Great Smoky Mountains National Park without a connection. Sure it’s not the most exciting global destination, but the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall is a great alternative to aimlessly driving your Zipcar around New England.

New Routes Will Take You Everywhere from Des Moines to Reykjavik
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· Delta:
Move over Iceland Express, as there’s a new route that will whisk passengers to and from Reykjavik from the New York City area. Their fares might not be as cheap, but Delta is starting service between JFK airport and Reykjavik starting on June 1, 2011. We realize it’s a little early to start celebrating this new option, but it’s the first US carrier to serve this route so it’s kind of a big deal. Hopefully this will create a little bit of a price ware with Icelandair, and allow travelers to visit the Blue Lagoon for a lot less than it cost in 2010.

· Allegiant Air:
Things at Allegiant Air have been somewhat quiet over the last few months after they announced future plans to Hawaii, but now they’re back to business and looking to increase their presence across the nifty fifty. The airline announced service from Colorado Springs to both Phoenix-Mesa and Long Beach. The new flights will run just twice a week—on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting September 15—with one-way fares starting at just $30. As is the case with most low cost carriers, watch out for those extra fees before getting all caught up with the cheapo fares.
· Air Canada:
We think it’s a little too soon to start planning for next year’s Mardi Gras, but Air Canada thinks otherwise. They’re looking to expand the options from their base in Toronto with new service to New Orleans. The flights will start at the end of October and take place daily. Air Canada will utilize their Jazz branch to operate the flights with CRJ 705 planes. At first we were concerned about a long regional jet flight, but the airline promises seatback audio-visual entertainment, so we can suck it up.

The low cost carrier recently announced flights from Twin Falls, Idaho and Idaho Falls, Idaho to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Flights are scheduled to start in June, but just keep an eye out on the schedules as the flights are only happening on certain days during week. Those in Twin Falls can head to Vegas on Monday and Friday nights. If you're leaving from Idaho Falls with Hollywood on the brain, those flights leave on Thursday and Sunday afternoons.
