Is This the World's Least Likely Airport Restaurant?
We’ve got some weird airport restaurant news for you today, but you’re going to need to wait for a bit before testing out the menu. The latest in restaurant partnerships comes from the folks over at the PGA Tour, as apparently their next big marketing push is airport restaurants.
PGA Tour Grill—creative name—is on the drawing board for an opening later this year at San Diego International Airport. The assumption here is that business travelers and leisure travelers alike must be enamored with golf, and as a result they will pay a little bit extra for that cheeseburger to be surrounded by televisions and memorabilia. SAN sounds like it's just the beginning, as they're hoping to bring the new concept elsewhere as well.

Limited-Edition Gourmet Meals at Airports. We've Now Heard of Everything.
HMSHost—you know them from airport restaurants everywhere—is teaming up some new up and coming chefs, as they just tapped the Culinary Institute of America for some new menu ideas. They held a little contest for some new and tasty recipes, and two students—Jessica Hargrove and Lauren Fury—came out on top. Among some other stuff their culinary creations will now be featured at airports across the country, so it’s time to dig in during your next layover.
The winning dishes are Toasted Flatbread Mac n’ Cheese and Chicken and Waffles, and will be available at select restaurants through the end of February. For those looking to indulge in the macaroni and cheese dish, you can expect the usually stuff piled onto a whole-wheat flatbread topped with candied bacon—nice. As for the chicken and waffles it’s pretty much what it sounds like, but there’s also white gravy, maple syrup, and green onions to top things off.

New Restaurants and Fresh Food for Super Bowl Travelers at New Orleans' Airport
When it comes to cool airport names, we’ve got to say that Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport has to be one of the best. Starting this week the airport is going to be the gateway to this year’s Super Bowl, as visitors—and media—from around the globe head to the city to check out the pregame festivities, which probably have already begun. Thankfully the airport is more than prepared for the influx of visitors, as they just cut the ribbon on a bunch of new restaurants and shops over at MSY.
In total there’s around eight new restaurants and other spots to grab a bite to eat in the recently renovated airport, and that’s good news for hungry travelers heading to town. New Orleans has invested around a billion bucks on upgrades and improvements in advance of this year’s big game coming to town, and the airport advancements are just one piece of the spending.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker Eats His Cupcakes at the Airport
Newark Mayor Cory Booker is a bit of a social media celebrity. In addition to running a difficult city, starting a campaign run for a 2014 Senate seat and lending his support to the state after Hurricane Sandy, he manages to keep up with his followers on Twitter. Spotted a pothole in Newark? Tweet him and he'll take care of it. Witnessed a crime? Call 911 first, but tweeting at Cory to follow-up seems to yield results. It's also pretty clear he loves his airport, Newark-Liberty International.
Last night, Mayor Booker tweeted that though the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey run EWR and he has no say on what goes down there, he does know where to get a good cupcake. We asked for details, and this morning he answered:
Terminal C: Crumbs. RT @jetsetcd: omg Newark Airport cupcakes! Where exactly?!

You Won't Believe What Airport Ranks Highest for Healthy Food
When it comes to delicious and nutritious the airport usually isn’t the place to look for food; however, we realize that sometimes the terminal is your only option. The good news is that one group has kind of gone through the options available in the concourse, and they’ve ranked the best—and worst—options available at airports throughout the nifty fifty.
The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is the group behind the latest list, as they crunched the numbers—and menus—at some of the busiest airports in the land. They’ve been doing this since 2001, and since then the average scores have jumped a good 19 points or so. That’s good for the airport restaurants and good for our waistlines—it’s win-win.

Farm-fresh Food Market Meets Food Court at Minneapolis-St. Paul
It seems like every time we hear from Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport the place is getting better and better. Some of the last news we caught was that they were finally opening up the WiFi waves free to one and all, and now they’re going all in with some tasty new options. It’s not quite a farmer’s market live from the airport, but some food stalls and a fresh take on the food court make it worth checking out.
OTG Management is the group behind the new concept, as they bring this idea of a sort of food hall thing to a US airport for the first time. If you’re looking for it it’s over in the G Concourse at the airport—that’s in Terminal 1 with all those Delta flights. The whole area kind of connects several gates, and as you make your way toward your flight you can take a pit stop for a snack, beverage, or just a magazine. There’s even plenty of iPad ordering capabilities, so it makes spending your hard earned cash that much more enjoyable.

An Airport Can Always Use More Doughnuts
Breaking airport news! When it comes to grabbing a cup of coffee at the airport, your life is never going to be the same, as one of the country’s favorite brands is making more of a push to invade terminals and concourses. Dunkin Donuts is going all-in at the airport, as they look to expand their donut and coffee empire into the country’s airports during 2013.
Love their coffee or hate their coffee, the brand is definitely here to stay, and when you have a 6am flight to who-knows-where there’s nothing quite like it. In order to cash in on the caffeine crunch at the airport, Dunkin Donuts is looking to do their thing with 12 new airport locations during the next year.

Good Airport Coffee is One Thing, but Excellent Airport Coffee is a Chicago Thing
Hm. So airports actually read comment cards.
One year ago, we published a tiny rant on airport coffee and the severe lack of quality coffeeshops within terminals, despite the recent trend toward adding gourmet, organic burger joints and wine bars and Top Chef-backed sit-down eateries. Where were the pour-over coffee bars and anything-other-than-Starbucks, we asked.
Chicago's two airports have answered.

Good Food, Good Meat, Good God, Let's Eat (at the Airport)!

No matter how smoothly your Thanksgiving travel goes you’re still going to need to grab something to eat on the road, and that’s especially the case if you're spending time waiting at the airport. Sure there are the old standbys, but there are also a few new airport restaurants making their debut just in time for the holiday travel season.
Down in Atlanta there’s plenty of fine dining—One Flew South—and not so fine dining—Chick-fil-A—options, but now there’s one more addition to the restaurant roundup at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Celeb chef Lorena Garcia just cut the ribbon on Lorena Garcia Tapas, and you can find it over in the Concourse F Mezzanine of the brand new International Terminal.
Expect stuff like mango glazed chicken wings, turkey bacon wrapped dates with goat cheese, and a citrus chicken marinated avocado wrap. Of course there will also be plenty of wines, beers, and cocktails from which to choose—and to get you through the holidays.

The Food Network Takes TV to the Airport with Its First Restaurant
It might not be your favorite television channel, but we all have a special place in our hearts for the Food Networkhy. Turn it on, tune in, and just like that you’ve wasted at least an hour of your life. Well officials with the channel’s marketing team must be hoping that the same thing will happen at that airport—at least more deliciously—as their expanding the network’s reach right into the airport.
The very first Food Network Kitchen is now doing its thing at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport for all your pre-flight dining needs. The place calls Concourse F within Terminal 3 home, and Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services hopes that their partnership with the Food Network brings instant brand recognition to their latest restaurant.
