Yes! Chick-fil-A is Scheduled to Arrive at MSP Later This Spring
All right this might not be the biggest announcement in airport restaurant dining, but we can hardly contain our excitement about the scheduled arrival of waffle fries at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Chick-fil-A is joining the dining lineup at the airport later this year, and all the crispy chicken sandwiches you can eat will be found within Concourse C of Terminal 1.
That’s the terminal—also know as Lindbergh—where Delta does their thing, so we’re curious of they had any kind of influence on bringing the Southern restaurant chain all the way to Minnesota.
The Chick-fil-A at MSP will be the first location for the chain within the state of Minnesota, so maybe if all goes well we’ll see some locations outside of the airport before too long. The fast food fried chicken will be moving into a location that used to be home to Godfather's Pizza and A&W, and we’ve got to say that airport officials have made a great decision. We’re already looking forward to some thirst-quenching lemonade, the aforementioned waffle fries, and of course plenty of chicken sandwiches.
Our only recommendation is to not include one of those fancy pants Coke machines, as no one seems to be able to operate the one outside the Chick-fil-A location in ATL.

From Airplane Trash to Treasure at Tampa International Airport
The folks over at Tampa International Airport are taking a new approach to airport dining, but it has nothing to do with serving up sandwiches and other on-the-go items within the terminal. They’re ensuring that any and all airport leftovers make their way to those in need, instead of simply tossing the leftover Sbarro slices in the trash.
It’s been about two years since someone at HMSHost—purveyor of fine airport foods everywhere—was concerned about the amount of waste from airport dining establishments. Things like sandwiches, fruits, and yogurt parfaits were past their sell-by-date, but they were hardly spoiled or expired. So instead of just sending them off to the landfill, the airport began partnering with organizations like Feeding America to ensure that someone else could benefit from a little extra nourishment.

Pei Wei is Now Cooking at Their Very First Airport Location
We usually don’t get that excited over a chain restaurant, but when we saw that a Sbarro was departing Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, we were pretty excited. The hardhats and temporary walls are gone, and now Pei Wei Asian Diner—little brother to PF Changs—is in and Sbarro is out at MSP.
The new restaurant features all kinds of Asian-inspired dishes, of course with an extra dose of tasty for the American palette. This is the very first airport location for the restaurant chain, so we’d expect them to continue their expansion if all goes well in the Twin Cities.

There's a New Terminal at Orange County Airport, Just in Time for the Holiday Rush
They won’t be as busy as LAX this holiday season thanks to the folks at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, who are opening up their newest terminal just in time for the rush. The hardhats and bulldozers are long gone and, after spending around $500 million on airport improvements, it’s time for Terminal C to open its doors to the traveling public.
Besides convenience—and new airport smell—the new terminal has a lot to offer those heading into town for Disneyland, the beaches, or a Real Housewives reunion. There’s plenty of new gates, five more security checkpoints, and live displays to help you find your flight and departure time. For those in need of a parking spot there’s also plenty of freshly paved options in Parking Structure C, including real-time updates on how many spots are left for you and your crew.

Sbarro's is Out and Pei Wei is in at MSP
We’re not shy when it comes to our true feelings for Sbarro at the airport, so we’re happy to report that we recently spotted one that has recently departed its airport location. You know that we’re already in love with Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport for plenty of reasons, and the exit of the pizza place is just another reason we’re singing its merits.
On a recent layover at the airport, we almost stopped in our tracks—on the moving sidewalk—when we discovered that Sbarro was on its way out in favor of Pei Wei Asian Diner. Sure it’s one chain restaurant for another, but we’ve always thought of PF Chang’s little brother as one of the best mass produced faux-Asian cuisine options around.

Mindblowing: There is a Krispy Kreme at London's Heathrow Airport
OMG. THERE IS A KRISPY KREME IN HEATHROW TERMINAL 3. Give us a second to catch our breath.
Okay. That's better.
To reiterate without the immediacy of caps lock, there is indeed an outlet at LHR T3 of that glazed confection heaven that is Krispy Kreme. Even betterit's before security, so if you're just heading to Heathrow to pick up or drop off someone, you can at least enjoy a kruller.
If you've missed it before and are kicking yourself now, it's okay; this Krispy Kreme can be easily missed if you're one of the travelers who zips from ticketing to security as fast as humanly possible, or skips ticketing completely with an e-boarding pass. Just know that it's in Virgin Atlantic territory, so BA flyers don't get to have any fun.
If you don't want to miss it in the future, the easiest way to explain its location is when you've just entered the building and are facing all the signs and security lanes, to head left to the furthest security checkpoint down there. The Krispy Kreme is right in front of it, and everybody knows security officers can't deny you taking a dozen glazed as a carry-on. They may count as items of cultural significance, but last we checked, there are no import limits on donuts.

The OC's John Wayne Airport Gets a Little Work Done
This summer seems to be the season for airport dining expansion and renovation. The latest airport getting in on all the food court make over action is John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California.
Things are already starting to open, as Vino Volo—they can be found in around ten other domestic airports—has already uncorked its first bottles to visitors and locals alike. The more local options are still on track for a debut either later this year or early next year. Javi’s—and offshoot of the Mexican restaurant in Newport Beach and Irvine—is en route to the airport, so expect plenty of pre-departure margaritas for thirsty travelers. Other options include Ruby's Diner, Ruby's Shake Shack, Zov's Bakery and Cafe, Jerry's Wood-Fired Dog, and Hobie Sand Bar. In total, restaurant space at the airport is going from around 15,000 square feet to around 27,000 square feet, so it’s definitely quite an upgrade.

Can You Believe This is Airport Food?
Okay, okay. So we just finished spreading the gospel of Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport, but we're kinda not done since we didn't say anything about the food. Oh, THE FOOD!
Instead of giving you a huge gallery and making you drool on a Monday evening when you're likely nowhere near the international departures area at AMS, here are just a few tidbits to give you an ideahints to get your appetite going on a day you're traveling through Schiphol. Here's the biggest tip: save your tummy for some good stuff; skipping breakfast or another meal is fine if you're on your way to this airport.

New Dining Options Are En Route to San Diego's Airport
It seems like this summer has been all about new airport dining options, as airports continue to say sayonara to Sbarro and hello to more local spots. The latest changes are scheduled to hit San Diego International Airport, and we already have our napkins ready.
Airport officials are doing their thing as different groups and companies vie for the highly sought after lease space at the airport, so who's going where isn't totally official just yet. However, even if half of these new places arrive on schedule then a tasty layover might just be in your future.

Out With Sbarro and In With 'Dinosaur BBQ' at Syracuse Airport
You might not have Syracuse, New York on your travel radar—especially since it’s no longer an AYCJ option—but if you’re headed through town anytime soon be sure to keep a look out for some new airport dining options.
In a major victory for fans of airport restaurants everywhere, officials at the Syracuse Hancock International Airport have decided to remove two Sbarro locations in favor of more local options. In total the airport is looking to spend around $400,000 over the next couple of months to update things, but you won’t go hungry as some temporary kiosks will be set up to supply chips and M&Ms.

Move Over, Sbarro's; Phoenix Airport Gets New Eats
Whether it's awesome sandwiches or the latest frozen food fad we're all over airport dining, so we just had to pass along a few updates about the new eats options that are coming to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in the future. The best part of the new options is that it's just not Sbarro and Starbucks, as some local options are sneaking through the security line; however, no need to worry, as there will still be a Starbucks too.
Last week airport officials did their thing to grant approval to a bunch of new spots for the airport's Terminal 4, and everything should arrive both before and after the TSA checkpoint by sometime between now and 2013. There will be some Phoenix specific pizza from La Grande Orange, and Cowboy Ciao from over in Scottsdale will also be making an appearance in the airport. There will also be a few spots from Fox Restaurant Concepts including Sauce, Blanco's Tacos and Tequilia, and Modern Burger.

Five of the Best (and Newest) Airport Restaurants
We’re usually all over new routes, but before jetting across the globe you need something to eat. Lately new airport restaurants seem to be everywhere, so we thought we’d round up a few of the new and coming-soon sort for your culinary pleasure:
· Smashburger at EWR
One of the country’s best burger chains has yet to invade NYC, but it has debuted in one of the city’s airports. Newark Liberty International Airport just got its very own Smashburger, and after sampling their burger masterpieces in the Midwest, we have to say that this is definitely a good thing. It’s kind of like Five Guys—but with a little more fanciness—and should satisfy any greasy cravings you might have at the airport. Find the burgers, and their specialized New Jersey menu, within Terminal C3.
