Guitar Hero Showdown: These Are Your Airlines On Twitter

Where: 714 11th Ave [map], New York, NY, United States, 10019
May 19, 2009 at 9:16 AM | by JetSetCD | 5 Comments

Last night at an unassuming bar in Midtown Manhattan, we ordered up some mozzarella sticks and raised a beer to the first official Guitar Hero showdown between airline Twitter representatives. It was, as you can imagine, a combination of video games, general nerdiness, and hilarity which made the event a success.

Appropriately enough, the idea for a Guitar Hero match between the two top Twittering airlines of Jetblue and Southwest Airlines gathered strength at the music and media SXSW festival back in March. Both Jetblue's Morgan Johnston and Southwest's Christi Day were there and discovered that they'd both be in Manhattan in May for yet another conference, so why not pep up the festivities?

Singapore Airlines Readies Millionth A380 Passenger Party

Where: Singapore
January 16, 2009 at 9:35 AM | by JetSetCD | 0 Comments

Flying to Singapore anytime soon? If so, watch out for party balloons and press a la Publisher's Clearing House at your boarding gate because Singapore Airlines is on the lookout for its millionth A380 passenger in February.

To fete the single, clueless guest who puts them into seven figures, the airline will roll out the red carpet with champagne and Singapore Airlines goodies for all passengers on the winning flight. If you just happen to strike gold as Mr. or Ms. 1,000,000, you'll be getting upgraded with a special in-flight package plus a three-night luxury hotel stay, limousine from the airport and meals at nicey nice restaurants.

It seems like only yesterday that Airbus birthed the big baby A380 and we all fantasized about joining the mile high club in their semi-private on-board suites. In actuality, that was already more than a year ago, and we're sure that at least a small percentage of the million passengers did make it past third base at 35,000 feet. Surely they won't deny a simple pleasure to their honored guest?

Superfly Trip Report: SFO to Las Vegas

June 20, 2008 at 10:05 AM | by DanielR | 2 Comments

After weeks of missing them, we finally managed to get onto one of Virgin America's "Superfly" flights from SFO to Las Vegas. Our particular flight crew encouraged passengers to use the in-plane chat function to communicate with other Virgin hotties on the plane.

Luckily this time around we had Bob Guiney of "The Bachelorette" and "The Bachelor" to stir things up and provide useful relationship tips to keep things moving via the in-flight messaging system. Some of Bob's sagacious advice included this tidbit to a man celebrating his five-year anniversary: "Drink!" Go Bob!

Virgin Atlantic Announces US Credit Card with Stellar Reward

June 12, 2008 at 8:48 AM | by egw | 6 Comments

Well, all our speculation came to naught: Don't look for massage chairs or hotel tie-ins on a Virgin Atlantic flight any time soon. But buying expensive hotel rooms and massages is one way to rack up miles on the new Virgin Atlantic AmEx, which also offers a 10 percent discount on Premium Economy fares through the rest of the year.

JetBlue Now Partying Like Virgin America

June 11, 2008 at 3:01 PM | by pbb | 2 Comments

In May, Virgin America started throwing parties on certain flights, calling the aerial happy hours "Superfly Wednesdays." And as it happens, we just got an email about an upcoming VA party at Tao at the Venetian. But it looks like another carrier isn't content to let Virgin have all the after-flight fun.

JetBlue just posted a message to Twitter reminding passengers about its own party in Sin City, a little something the airline's calling "JetVegas." (It's happening at Bare at the Mirage.)

The event, scheduled for June 13-14, promises to be brotastic, co-sponsored as it is by Thrillist. If one more airline hosts an after party in Vegas, it'll be a verified trend. Just off the top of our heads, we're thinking "Southwest Stripper Night" could be a hit.
