Air Arabia Expands Service, Sounds Dirty

November 21, 2008 at 9:30 AM | by | Comment (1)

Economic meltdown? What economic meltdown? asks Air Arabia, the low cost carrier that thinks it can expand in times when everyone else is doing the opposite.

The carrier just ordered ten new planes and is about to open another hub in Morocco. Experts say the Middle East budget airline market is still "under-penetrated" and that Air Arabia's plans are smart.

And they must be doing something right because they just won "Best Low Cost Carrier in the Middle East and North Africa" at an awards night in Dubai. Whether it's their South Park character advertising or the chocolate candy marketing we don't know, but they must be clutching their new award with glee.

Air Arabia Launching Preemtive Strike on Flydubai

September 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM | by | Comments (0)

It's been a rough year so far for LCCs in the US and Europe, but budget airlines in the Middle East must not be feeling the same economic pressures. How else to explain that Air Arabia is about to create a new hub in Rabat, Morocco.

The carrier, which has its home base at Sharjah International in the UAE, is planning to add dozens of new A320s in the coming years as it expands service to Northern Africa and Europe. Air Arabia plans to work with the thrillingly-named Moroccan carrier Regional Air Lines on some routes, but specifics still haven't been announced.

While it's surprising to see any airline expanding, maybe this shouldn't come as such a shock: Emirati newcomer Flydubai is planning its first low-cost flights in the region sometime in 2009.

Air Arabia Has New Tricks Up Its Sleeve

November 26, 2007 at 9:30 AM | by | Comments (0)

You might remember Middle East LCC Air Arabia as the one who used to use South Park characters in their advertising. On the other hand, you might know Air Arabia because of the incredibly long name of its founding father, His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohamed Al Qassimi (ruler of Sharjah) who agreed to set the whole thing up in early 2003.

These days, Air Arabia is going from strength to strength, but it's using candy to do so. Flights now head over most parts of the Middle East, including Oman, Yemen and Saudi Arabia and then further afield to India, Turkey and Bangladesh. The current wacky advertising features "bite-size holidays", which mean some candies resembling M&Ms are getting a big workout.

The candies must be doing OK for them, because with 34 additional planes on order, Air Arabia only looks like getting bigger. That's definitely sweet.
