How to Go on Retreat at the First Zen Monastery Outside Asia
Is it time to start planning your own moment of Zen? The San Francisco Zen Center (SFZC) is welcoming meditation seekers, yoga lovers, and artisan foodies for this year's guest seasons, running from April 26 to September 9, 2013, at the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center.
Located inland from Big Sur, and only accessible by 4-wheel drive vehicles via a 14-mile dirt road, Tassajara is the first Zen training monastery outside of Asia. It has established itself as the place to go for self-discovery, healing and an escape from the stresses of everyday life. It is also an eco-efficient paradise with all of its energy coming from solar panels and local hot springs.

Three Airports Now Sport Yoga Rooms
At this point we’ve seen pretty much anything that usually does its thing outside of the airport move to inside the airport. One of these new additions to the concourses and terminals is the appearance of yoga rooms.
We’re pretty sure that San Francisco International Airport started the airport yoga movement just about a year ago, as the lotus position found its way just past the security checkpoint at the airport’s Terminal 2. A year later there’s other airports getting in on the fun as well, and this week it looks like Burlington, Vermont is joining in.
Burlington International Airport is the latest airport to add yoga room to their list of amenities. A bamboo floor and plenty of yoga mats transform the space from just another room at the airport into a little bit of a sanctuary for stressed out travelers looking to unwind before or after their flights.

Over 10,000 People Joined in the World's Largest Yoga Class
What does it look like when 10,000 people downward dog? Well, something like what we saw yesterday evening in New York City's Central Park, when Flavorpill partnered up with the likes of Standard Hotels and Jetblue to create a world record for the largest yoga class ever.
We popped into the park on a whim to check it out, after registering last-minute and printing our free ticket. With the class scheduled to start at 7pm, the line to enter at 6pm snaked through what seemed like half of the park, coiling down paths, under bridges, over rocks and down grassy hills.
The offer of a free tote, Gaiam yoga mat and more sure helped get the word out, and by 7:30pm we were all an example of the power of social media when mixed with free stuff and the outdoors as we began to do downward dogs, sun salutations and cobras until rainclouds surprised everyone.
