Would You Drive a Clean Diesel Rental Car? Hertz Sure Hopes So.

When travelling abroad—especially in Europe—it’s pretty common to hear the rumble and hum of all those diesel powered automobiles. Here at home however, for the most part diesel engines are limited to pickup trucks and tractor-trailers, but slowly and surely that alternative flavor of fuel is starting to make a comeback.

Volkswagen has offered up diesel engines in many of their cars for many years, but now it looks like the engines have caught on with the rental car companies. Hertz is now adding the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta TDI to its Green Traveler Collection to save you a little extra money and a little extra fuel. Sure, it still uses fossil fuels to get the job done, but it seem a little bit better when you’re able to average over 40 miles per gallon.
