Three New Airlines Will Touch Down at MIA in November

October 6, 2011 at 1:05 PM | by | Comments (0)

MIA welcomes three new airlines this fall, just in time for winter getaways. Of course, you can already fly to a gazillion places from Miami International but these new airlines bring cheaper fares to the mix for destinations in the Bahamas and Mexico.

Sun Air International Airlines will begin 18 weekly flights from MIA to five destinations in the Bahamas: Bimini, Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay and new routes to Andros Town and Governors Harbour. Great news for anyone hoping to avoid the cruise crowds in Nassau and hit up some of the smaller, more remote and luxurious islands and private resorts.

New Airline Route News Takes Us to Mexico, Florida and Beyond

August 12, 2011 at 8:42 AM | by | Comments (0)

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· Frontier:
Every time we think of Frontier Airlines we’re reminded of the furry animals on the tails of the planes as well as their freshly baked cookies, so we’re always excited to hear about their new nonstop options. New seasonal options are heading between Denver and Little Rock beginning on November 17, and these flights will run six times per week. Des Moines is also getting some new options, as the city will be connected directly to Tampa and Orlando beginning in January—just in time for a trip out of the snow and into the sun.

· American Airlines:
We’ve been dreaming of nonstop jet service between Watertown, New York and Chicago-O’Hare—we kid—and now it’s finally arrived thanks to American Airlines. The American Eagle arm of the airline is offering the flights to and from the city that’s not too far from Lake Ontario or Canada beginning on November 17—perfect for the holiday rush. There’s two flights per day most days of the week, except on Saturdays and Sundays where there’s only one option. Definitely some good connection opportunities here for those flying into Chicago, as well for those looking to get some peace and quiet in upstate New York.

Alaska, American and Emirates Arrive with This Week's New Routes

August 5, 2011 at 8:36 AM | by | Comments (0)

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· Alaska Airlines:
Residents of Spokane and Boise just got a couple new options to and from Seattle—and beyond—thanks to Alaska Airlines. The flights were already available, but the airline just boosted the amount of planes heading back and forth by adding a couple more flights on each route. We know that Alaska Airlines loves Hawaii almost as they love their home state, so we’re thinking that these flights can help a few more mainlanders reach the islands a little more conveniently.

· Emirates:
We knew Emirates has been busy expanding around the world, and it looks like their latest nonstop option is a flight between Dubai and Copenhagen. They’ll be doing these flights every day of the week through a little assistance from Airbus A330 aircraft. Expect all kinds of luxuries and service if you’re sitting up front on these flights, but if not, we bet there’s at least a free can of soda if you’re sitting in the back.

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· Air Berlin:
Düsseldorf International Airport is looking to make a name for itself when it comes to foreign travel, and Air Berlin is certainly helping them reach that goal. The airline plans 77 nonstop destinations from the airport this summer. Some of the new routes for the warmer months include San Francisco, Skiathos, and Tel Aviv. Other new routes began a few months ago—like Naples—and continue to go strong. Now might be a good time to visit Germany, and to hit up some European side trips thanks to Air Berlin.

Free Tickets All Around

November 19, 2008 at 11:14 AM | by | Comments (3)

Now this is a trend we can get behind: In the face of a recession, companies are giving away tickets to keep people traveling.

In Mexico, VivaAerobus is giving away seats on certain flights to its hub in Monterrey. You'll have to pick up taxes and fees, but your flight from Austin, Cancun or Puerto Vallarta will be fare-free. And even if you want to connect in Monterrey to another flight, you won't be spending much: One-way tickets start at about $30.

In the US, Megabus will be giving away 100,000 free seats starting today for travel January 14-March 18, 2009. Just type in the promo code "greenbus" to see if your dates and routes are eligible. We randomly picked a trip between New York and Baltimore on January 15 and found six trips with free seats out of 14 daily departures. (Of course, the other trips were priced at $1 and $4, but still!)

And in Europe, Ryanair's 1 million free seat promotion continues until Friday. As usual, you'll cover the taxes and fees--and might get slapped with additional fees if you're not careful about the weight of your luggage--but the upside is a "free" flight. Even better? The carrier has a handy PDF of all the current availabilities so you don't waste your afternoon digging through city pairs and departure times.

Adventures of Link: Sorry, Mexico

Where: Mexico
July 23, 2008 at 5:32 PM | by | Comments (0)

The age of the low cost carrier may be over--at least in Mexico. The Atlanta Journal Constitution says prices are already up 25 percent this year, and increases show no sign of stopping.

Along with rising fares, international and Mexican carriers are grounding planes and trimming capacity. Meanwhile bus companies are putting their fares on sale--a move they can afford thanks to government gasoline subsidies.

Today, we offer you some links to airlines across the border. Don't forget to book with a credit card just in case!
