September 10, 2009 at 10:24 AM | by cmb | 0 Comments

Young women (and a few men) are still flocking to Vancouver with hopes of getting a glimpse of theTwilight cast who are there filming the third installment of the series, Eclipse. But, finding exactly where they're filming has proven to be more difficult than most would have imagined.

On Tuesday, the Vancouver Sun did confirm they were filming at Capilano Regional Park but they also reported there were no signs of Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson. We also know they filmed the movie's big graduation scene on August 28th at David Thompson Secondary School which stands in as Forks High in both New Moon and Eclipse.

Travel + Leisure Opening Very Suave Airport Retail Stores

July 14, 2009 at 8:59 AM | by Omri | 0 Comments

Glossy travel magazine Travel + Leisure, American Express Publishing's upper class answer to Lonely Planet, has decided to enter the retail market and launch stores in several North American airports. The first store opened its doors at Vancouver International last month, just in time for the Olympic hype. Halifax International and JFK are slated for the next two openings, with further stores in the works at Orlando and San Francisco.

The T+L shops, done in partnership with airport newstand brand Hudson News Group, will "sell products aimed at enhancing the travel experience" which means a typical array of luggage—Samsonite, North Face, etc. plus Travel + Leisure's own printed materials, two of the more prominent selections being T+L magazine, of course, and its sister publication Food & Wine. Although we haven't figured out why T+L gets a plus sign and F&W gets the ampersand, we're sure the explanation is very refined and sophisticated.

Robert Pattinson, Bummed by NYC, is Heading Back to Vancouver Next Month

July 8, 2009 at 11:19 AM | by cmb | 0 Comments

Boy, we sure wish we had this kind of problem when visiting New York City. According to the NY Daily News, Robert Pattinson is, "seriously bummed by New York ... and its women!" The Twilight star is in New York City filming the indie flick Remember Me and has been mobbed by female fans on set.

An insider told the paper:

“He’s embarrassed by the way girls throw themselves at him. The girls here are stalking him. He stayed in two different hotels over the course of four days just to try to escape the fans who were following him. He's afraid that if he gives a hand, they’ll take the whole arm. He’s being advised by security not to encourage the crowd, so he doesn’t even look up anymore."

The NY Daily News also claims he has been taking solace by going out on the town, hitting bars like Black and White and Webster Hall, both in the East Village.

The film festivals keep on rolling in. In fact, the Vancouver International Film Festival is only about a week away: It starts September 25 and runs through October 10.

Now in its 27th year, the festival is set to show more than 300 films from more than 60 countries. Organizers were certainly overwhelmed this year, as the festival received over 150,000 admissions, making it one of the largest to take place in North America.

The VIFF seeks to stand out from the rest by screening the largest number of East Asian films outside that region. Also, it has one of the largest collections of Canadian films in the world as well as a documentary program called Nonfiction Features.

Good Morning, Vancouver: Olympics Building Spree Commences

January 15, 2008 at 4:05 PM | by egw | 0 Comments

The city of Vancouver isn't just a great place to see celebrities or fly to Hong Kong any more. While the next Winter Olympics are two years away, Vancouver and nearby Whistler are already experiencing a construction boom, according to the New York Times, including an all-new light-rail line and several luxury hotels that will be ready to accommodate travelers in 2009.

Traveling to Olympic host cities before their big games is a great way to get a deal on a new, or newly renovated, hotel. The celebrities are just a bonus.
