Valentine's Day is less than a week away and if you're scrambling to come up with the perfect present, opt instead for a romantic getaway. Even if your budget doesn't allow for a jet-setting Paris or Venice trip, there are still last-minute local jaunts you can take that will impress your honey buns.
Check out our three picks for a local V-Day getaway:
Attention all you who are flying somewhere this weekend, or, on Monday Valentine's Day. We've got a big tip that you could get you a lot of winks from flight attendants, both male and female, if you're interested. Here's the tip: bring chocolate, specifically individual chocolate bars or a box of truffles. When you board and when most everyone's seated and the flight attendants are doing their seatbelt checks, hand it to one of them as a nice little gift for the flight's crew.
Not only are you more than a considerate human being, but you'll likely make their day, a day they may otherwise spend thinking about the raw deal they have working when they'd rather spend the weekend with their sweeties (or hanging out with single friends).
Time is ticking away while you try to come up with the perfect Valentine's Day gift. Instead of getting the predictable overpriced staples—chocolate, perfume, roses—bring your loved one on a romantic getaway to someplace exotic. It'll impress her (or him) way much more than a Whitman's Sampler box.
Here are three last-minute deals to book for a passion-packed V-Day:
Do you feel like you've looked everywhere for your soul mate but haven't found them yet? Maybe you're just not looking in the right place. Forget bars, parties or the grocery store, why not try a ski lift? Black Mountain in Jackson, NH is hosting the 4th Annual Chairlift Speed Dating event this weekend.
Registration for the event begins at 12:30 pm on Saturday, Feb. 13 in the Lostbo Pub. Speed dating runs from 2 pm to 4 pm and is followed by music, drinks and contests. While you're looking for the mate of your dreams, you can also enjoy 'Love Potions' from the bar and a special aphrodisiac menu to get you in the mood. And for the ladies, the deal is even sweeter since you'll get to ski for free (not to mention the fact that men find women more attractive in scary situations thanks to the adrenaline rush).
Valentine's Day is great, unless you're single and everyone is asking you what your big V-Day plans are. But don't fret, especially if you're in NYC, because we have a few a few singles-only events that will make your committed friends jealous.
Single Gal in the City, Melissa Braverman, recommends singles start their Valentine's Weekend off right at the popular Cuban restaurant Havana Central, 2911 Broadway, New York, NY. The restaurant is hosting a speed dating event on Friday, February 12th that is geared toward singles ages 25-45. Tickets cost $59.95, which includes tax, hors d’oeuvres and one Havana Central classic cocktail. To purchase, call 1-800-406-0832 or visit Fastlife.com.

If chocolate and a cheap stuffed animal won't cut it for your valentine this year, try whisking your baby away to Puerto Rico for a last-minute Valentine's Day vacation.
Travelzoo is offering a deal where you'll get four nights at a hotel and round-trip airfare for $399. But you have to jump on this, since the sale ends today at midnight, EST.
It’s not too tricky to find a good spot to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Just mix together warmth, sand and sun and typically you’ll be good to go—we’ve even found a few for you. And there’s still plenty of ways to mess things up, a few of which might be taking your sweetheart some of our suggestions below, as these are the worst events and locations to celebrate Valentine’s Day in 2010.
· Roses At The Rodeo In Texas
If you don’t want to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the same person in 2011, then taking him or her to the rodeo for some animal cruelty and men in tight jeans is a great idea. Champion bull rider Tuff Hedeman—apparently he’s a big deal—will be attending the February event at the Bee County Exposition Center. Tickets are just $10 in advance, and the first 100 ladies in attendance will be given a flower. If this was on your radar as a possibility you might as well leave the car running for a quick escape.

Have you ever heard of Pegasus Airlines? We can't remember if we have, but apparently they've been flying for 19 years in Turkey, and have some pretty great rates for travel around Europe, especially with their current Valentine's Day promotion.
Let's say you'll be in London for good old Valentine's, but you've got a little extra vacation time. Why not skip Paris but still honor the memory of the romantic Orient Express by hopping a flight to Istanbul? If you book on Pegasus before February 13, and fly between February 11 and 15, then the second passenger travels for 50% off.
Or just forget it and wait until March, when the airline begins service between Paris-Orly and Istanbul, with tickets starting from 49.99 EUR one-way. Yes, Pegasus considers itself a low-cost carrier, so you in-flight meals will cost money, but you can at least pre-order them. Perhaps it's time we finally dipped our toes in the Bosphorus...

Guess what is only two weeks away? Yep, Valentine's Day is back again, and with it comes the scramble for half-hearted gifts for your sweetheart, even though the thought is whole-hearted.
The newspapers are full of jewelry store ads and specials on weekend trips to Paris, but we're feeling something a bit warmer, someplace with more dolce vita than savoir faire, if you know what we mean. So then, it's off to Rome!
For the next few months, even including all dates around Valentine's Day, Travelzoo has found a huge deal on a hotel+flights+breakfast deal to Rome for $649. It's listed as $749 on the go-today travel site that is selling the deal, but enter promo code TZ012710 at checkout to knock off that pesky $100 difference. The hotel may be only 3.5 stars, but heyat least you're in Rome with a bed and you've spent less than if you were to head straight into a jewelry store and just point at something nice.

Lovers are once again free to lock lips in the Mexican town of Guanajuato, now that local officials have shelved a proposal that would have made public displays of affection a crime. As the LA Times points out in an amusing Valentine's Day story, the intent of the law, which was proposed by a conservative faction of the city council, was never to stifle the innocent smooches of paramours, but rather to prevent offensive displays of groping and "Olympic fondling" in view of impressionable children. Still, the wording of the law was general enough to give the faction's adversaries a tremendous opportunity, tapping into the affectionate nature of a nation whose standard greeting involves a cheek kiss.
It's Valentine's Day. How will you show your special one the depth of your love? If you're near Philadelphia and appreciate a hyper-literal interpretation of symbolism, we suggest taking a journey into a human heart. The Franklin Institute's Giant Walk-Through Heart provides visitors with an inside look at the "engine of life," with narrow passages that follow the flow of blood through veins, arteries, valves, and chambers to the ever-present cadence of a heartbeat.
