Some Qantas Passengers Learn about the Seatbelt Sign the Hard Way
We’ve all rolled our eyes after the pilot has turned on the fasten seatbelts sign for like the umpteenth time, but once again we’re reminded that the folks up front have good reason to so.
Over the weekend a handful of passengers were tossed around a bit after hitting some pretty decent turbulence aboard a Qantas A380 flight from London to Singapore. There were seven passengers that reported injuries, and there were four that actually needed to head off to the hospital to get checked out. Most of the injuries involved bumps and bruises, and everyone has since been cleared to fly with no lasting problems.
The folks sustaining injuries were actually out of their seats and still meandering around the cabin when the plane hit the pocket of severe turbulence, so let this serve as a remember to follow along with all those lighted signs and placards.

Know What Kind of Turbulence to Expect Before Your Flight
In-Flight meals may not be the most sanitary things and engines may not work properly all the time, but the thing that scares us the most is turbulence. When the plane starts shaking, we close our eyes and try to go to a happy place inside our mind, where the skies are clear and smooth and we're about to land. But thanks to a tweet from flight attendant @Heather_Poole, we may able to prepare ourselves for turbulence by visiting the Turbulence Forecast.
The Turbulence Forecast is a straightforward site, which gives maps of countries or regions and layers over them with sectors where light to heavy turbulence can be expected. The map you see above shows only green sectors on the USA right now, so turbulence is light, but trust us when we say that we have seen those boxes go red (mainly over the Northeast) to distinguish more severe turbulence.

Under the impression that international carriers are generally superior to domestics, she felt duped when her stained, rigid seat and minuscule meal made her feel like she was flying to Cleveland via Delta circa 1997.
