Tweet Of The Week: Travel Makes You Smarter, So Says Mark Twain
We love Tuesdays. Why, you ask? Because the day brings many travel tips and quips as "Travel Tuesday" on Twitter, and we're going to share our favorite with you. Got an avid travel twitterer we should follow? Let us know.
Traveling is often costly, confusing, frustrating and dangerous, but more often the benefits one reaps from a good trip far outweigh any risks. For this reason, how could we not think ourselves a little smart, in coordinating and appreciating it all? Amanda Drake of Y Partnership, a marketing firm, tweeted today:
Tidbit: 67% of active travelers agree, "I think my IQ is higher than average"
We're surprised only 67% of "active travelers" agreed with that! For reference, let's just take a look at some of the best travel quotes, as rounded up in BraveNewTraveler's The 50 Most Inspiring Travel Quotes:

Tweet Of The Week: The Return Of Fuel Surcharges?
We love Tuesdays. Why, you ask? Because the day brings many travel tips and quips as "Travel Tuesday" on Twitter, and we're going to share our favorite with you. Got an avid travel twitterer we should follow? Let us know.
Have we been too focused on the rise of holiday travel fees and the continued ridiculousness that are checked baggage fees to see that giant fuel surcharges are back? While it's true that during our compulsive airfare searching, we've noticed higher prices on international flights, the thought that it could be related to fuel sits in cobwebs at the back of our mind.
Thus, we turned to the Twitter of travel royalty, Pauline Frommer, who noticed these added fees for Europe flights, saying:

As we're sure at least everyone on the east coast of the United States knows, we're in the midst of the World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees. Game six takes place tomorrow night at Yankee Stadium, but we're a little focused on today still, it being #traveltuesday on Twitter and all. But thanks to @FreeFunGuides, whose sole mission is to tweet about anything free, we know what we'll be doing if the Phillies win:

Yesterday was perhaps a record for the #traveltuesday hashtag on Twitter, as the announcement of the Southwest $25 sale spread and folks mentally escaped their jobs by discussing travel tips and favorite destinations.
Nonetheless, there was one travel tweet that stood out from the rest, and not because it was rendered in all caps. Instead, we were taken with @MistiEyes' earnest excitement in her tweet:

Tweet Of The Week: Direct From Brazil's Iguazu Falls

The announcement of Rio's win of the 2016 Olympics may already be weeks behind us, but the good feelings continue as the tourism focus turns decidedly southern. For this reason, we specifically loved @sambayogi's unique addition to #traveltuesdaya live-tweeted picture of her visit to Brazil's Iguazu Falls:
Iguazu Falls, Brazil took my breath away- worth 14-hr bus ride from Floripa!
For the 14-hour bus ride alone, she deserves "Travel Tweet of the Day," and for those who haven't yet had the fortune to spend some time on Brazilian beaches, "Floripa" is short for the city of Florianopolis. Because of Floripa's exotic oceanside scenery and nightlife, the next few years should see some Olympics-prep refurbishment right along with Rio, so add it to your list.

Tweet Of The Week: Props To The Pilots

Did you catch the Today Show this morning, with the brief interview from "Miracle on the Hudson" pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger? Beyond hearing that his new book ("Highest Duty") is out today, we learned of his exactly what he was thinking as he and co-pilot Jeff Skiles manuevered the safe landing on the Hudson River after the bird strike knocked out both engines. Above all, he was calm and the idea of dying never entered his mind. He described the bird strike as massive, with the Canadian geese like a scene from a Hitchcock movie. It made us feel for pilots who not only have to deal with the occasional bird strike, but also for those who constantly fly into inclement weather.
Twitterer @amywiddowson gives due props to her own pilot who, this morning on United flight 6395 between Calgary and San Francisco, expertly flew through insanely bad weather. She says:

Tweet Of The Week: Abu Dhabi On Our Mind
Poor Dubai, you haven't had the best week; what with the announcement about the failure of the multi-billion dollar "The World" deal and news that the skyscraper Burj Dubai would be delayed until December, unable to open this month as planned. All that his news has made us do however, is think more and more about heading over to that nook of the world and seeing what exactly is going on.
Thanks to Twitter though, we don't need to quite yet. We can be perfect armchair tourists thanks to tweets like the above, from Lara Dunston, who is living the United Arab Emirates life currently, but her profile cements her nomadic status: "Perpetual globetrotter (60+countries) travel writer (40+books, 100s stories for world’s best publishers) living out of a suitcase since Jan 06." Her personal travel stories can be found at cool travel guide, and her tweet today made us wish we were on the other side of the world with her:

In case you've been living in a cave for the past month, on September 8 travelers from all over the United States took to the skies when their $599 All-You-Can-Jet Passes went active, and they'll be up there flying all over the Jetblue grid until they expire on October 8. One of the most dedicated AYCJ-ers is Brendan Ross, who successfully convinced Wired.com to buy him the pass if he'd report back on flying for the full month, without ever sleeping in a hotel or taking a day off.
Today Brendan landed in Orlando and was treated to a tour of Jetblue's training facility, as we learn from his @flyered Twitter. But we're way more taken with his earlier tweet:

We don't know about you, but forget about this last three-day weekend; it needs to be a four-day or even five-day weekend in order for us to get back on track and remind ourselves that summer is officially over. Labor Day wreaked havoc on everyone's focus it seems, but apparently KatieHammel took it extremely hard, and we completely sympathize with her urge to lay in bed all day with cats:

We've all been there, man: the dreaded seat next to the bathrooms on a coast-to-coast or, even worse, an international flight. We'd like to think that's a special circle of hell reserved for those who bring full meals of chicken wings and mashed potatoes on board with them, and then stink up the cabin just as badly as the lavatory, but sadly there is no such differentiation.
As regular Twitterers might know, today is Travel Tuesday, and today's pick comes to us from David Farley. He is a food and travel writer, and author of the book An Irreverent Curiosity, detailing his search in Italy for Jesus' foreskin. For reals. Here's his take on the worst seat on the plane:
