Excess Baggage Gets Some Love

May 12, 2006 at 3:39 PM | by markj | 0 Comments

Have you heard? Luggage shipping is all the rage. Airlines have a spotty record when it comes to getting your baggage from point A to point B and a few luggage shipping companies are trying to fill that void. Luggage Forward is one such company. Luggage Forward provides door-to-door luggage and sports equipment delivery to more than 200 countries globally.

Pricing is appears to work much like a delivery service usually does. You can choose standard, priority, or express.

We priced out a Memorial Day baggage jaunt from NY to SF and in order to get our bags to and fro we were looking at $204 -$392, depending on delivery dates.

While the thought of getting on public transportation and in cabs bag free is an empowering one, economically it might not not work for your run-of-the-mill trip. However, for those trips where you have a ton of bags to tote (think long term stays, summer shares, etc), or for trips where you are carrying heavy baggage this could be a godsend. Imagine sending your snowboard out to Utah in advance of your big weekend of shredding instead of schlepping that awkward board to and from the airport. That seems to be the sweet spot to us.

Luggage forward is smartly targeting Nantucket and other small airports where luggage restrictions can be cumbersome to jetsetters.
