Not an April Fools' Joke: Flight Attendant Jobs are Out There
It might just be the worst day on the internet—April Fools’ Day—so we’re trying our best to give it to you straight.
If you’re looking for a job in the airline industry there’s a company looking for a few good men and women to serve up in the skies. It might not have the prestige of a legacy carrier or an international airline, but you need to start somewhere. That’s why you might want to proofread that resume one more time, as Pinnacle Airlines is getting ready to do a little hiring.
The carrier operates regional routes for bigger airlines like Delta, so your dreams of flying overseas and serving up champagne might be a little far for now. However, there’s plenty of flight attendant positions up for grabs, as well as options for mechanics, crew schedulers, and even accountants. Assorted analyst, manager, and writer positions are available too, as Pinnacle looks to move their home from Memphis to Minneapolis-St. Paul later this spring.

Now Hiring: Flight Attendant Barbie
It takes a special sort of person to be a flight attendant. In the early days of airplane travel, flight attendants were a cross between nurses and bellboys, then the jet era called for them to be glamorous representatives of the airline. Today, flight attendants are recognized as service professionals who often undertake a full career in the skies.
Thailand's budget airline Nok Air is still seemingly stuck in that early jet age mindset, however, as they've just launched a recruitment drive via Facebook, with requirements that read more like Barbie's resume than a job posting.

So, Which Airline Supposedly Has the Rudest Crew?

These ladies don't look rude
Coming off a few days of our own little annual awards, this story might seem like it's part of The Jauntys, but it's most definitely not. In fact, this dubious accolade is nothing any airline would like to display on a shelf in their HQ. Instead, the award for the Rudest Flight Atttendant would make any airline exec sit upright in their seat and pay attention.
Skyscanner, a flight search engine, recently polled their customers on which airline they believed employed the least friendly cabin crew. Before we get to the answer, we need to detail the (very) unscientific survey. The survey group consisted of 1,000 website customers being asked questions about US carriers only.

Wanna Be a Delta Flight Attendant? Good Luck With That.
Perhaps it's the exotic airports or the fun flashmobs and cute videos. Maybe it's the red, Richard Tyler wrap-dresses. It could also be the desire to work side-by-side with the famous Deltalina. Whatever it is, there are a lot of people who think they have what it takes to put air passengers' safety first and still maintain a killer smile. That's what we deduce from the recent job post from Delta, which garnered a staggering number of interested responses.
The airline geared up a recruiting drive to add about 300 new flight attendants to their already massive work force. Little did they know that their human resource department would be working overtime when they began to get about 2 applications every minute. In the first week, 22,000 eager flight attendant hopefuls threw their name in the hat for a coveted job at 36,000 feet, and the listings aren't even closed.

Want to Be a Pilot? American Airlines is Hiring a Whole Bunch of Them
Just the other day we were going on and on about American Airlines and how they’re looking for plenty of flight attendants. That’s still the case, but now the carrier is also looking for a few good men and women to sit up front in the cockpit.
American Airlines is very much trying to reduce costs and what not as part of its bankruptcy, and there’s ongoing discussions between the airline and the pilots union. However, even with all this stuff going on, it looks like American wants to hire around 2,500 brand new pilots to fly passengers to here, there, and everywhere. Around 1,500 of them would be replacing retiring pilots, so it’s not like they’re just firing people in hopes of scoring lower paid employees.
As American focuses more and more new routes to additional international destinations there’s clearly a need for more people to fly the planes. Right now there’s about 7,500 pilots serving aboard American Airlines, so if you ever wanted to be one of them now’s the time to do so.

American Airlines Needs a Few Good Men and Women to Serve in the Sky
If you’ve ever dreamt of flying around the world (or at least across the region) while earning a paycheck then we’ve got some good news for you. You’ll need to brush up on your emergency slide procedures and of course practice parallel parking the beverage cart. However, if you’re able to pull your weight up at 35,000-feet then there’s one airline that might just want to talk to you in a little more detail.
Despite the fact that they’re short on cash—that pesky bankruptcy and all—American Airlines is thinking about opening up the human resources floodgates in preparation for plenty of resumes and applications. The carrier is looking for a few good men—and women—to serve as their newest flight attendants, as apparently there’s the need for like 1,500 to serve up in the skies.

Exclusive: Inside JetBlue's Massive New NYC Headquarters
Last week, JetBlue completed the ridiculously crazy process of transferring system operations from a building in Forest Hills, Queens, NY to another building only several miles down the street in Long Island City, Queens, NY. It was a yearlong project of the utmost detail, a far cry from the last time they moved in 2003 and "balanced computer monitors on chairs to cross the street."
For the historical and political side of what convinced JetBlue to cozy up closer to Manhattan, see our previous post. Right now, however, let's take a look inside the new digs where people work every day to manage 14,000 crew and passenger numbers of greater proportions.

Get Lei'd: Hawaiian Airlines is Hiring Flight Attendants
It might not be quite as luxurious or exciting as it is on television, but if you’ve always thought of being a flight attendant then now’s the time to do so. Hawaiian Airlines—the unofficial airline of paradise—is now looking for flight attendants to help them expand across the islands and the world.
There's already plans for a New York City-to-Honolulu flight, and who knows where else they might be headed to in the future. In total there are around 175 new flight attendant positions available, but you better get that resume ready as the deadline is February 14.

Tweet of the Week: Get a (Travel) Job
We love Tuesdays. Why, you ask? Because the day brings many travel tips and quips as "Travel Tuesday" on Twitter, and we're going to share our favorite with you. Got an avid travel twitterer we should follow? Let us know.
Getting a great travel job seems so difficult to do. When an airline is hiring for anything other than ramp jobs, it's like the Harvest Moon or something, which is why we are really loving the fact that not only did Southwest Airlines tweet a job opening today, but that it's for the position of Multi Media Manager. Ooothat likely means reading lots of Twitter! And we bet you already do that now, right?
Clicking through to their careers page, we find that they're needing much more than just multi media peeps. They're also scouting around for a few good pilots (only accepting resumes through March 23!) and of course those ramp agents.
Dear airlines: it's okay to post your job openings every so often. People gots to work, and heyif a side perk of the position is free travelthen you automatically already have our attention. And with SWA's track record of featuring employees in their TV commercial, you may soon be able to add a TV appearance to your resume.

Infamous Former Flight Attendant Steven Slater Has Found a New Job
Remember Steven Slater? His 15 minutes may be up, but that doesn't mean that the former JetBlue flight attendants-turned-epic job-quitter can't get another job. And guess whathe has! Somehow.
Slater, who made headlines over the summer by cursing out passengers on his flight and then jumping out of the plane at JFK Airport via the inflatable evacuation slide (with two beers in hand), will be making some money working as the judge of the "Mile High Text Club" contest. The details are still fuzzy, but it has something to do with Slater deciding who has the worst travel horror story, as submitted by text message via a texting service over in-flight wifi. Wait, what? Yea, we're confused too.

Southwest Airlines Might Be Hiring Pilots and Flight Attendants Any Day Now
Fans of khaki shorts and airplanes should look no further than Southwest Airlines for a new career opportunity. The airline that hates fees is getting ready to hire a whole bunch of new crew members to serve drinks, review safety information, and to get that annoying guy in seat 10A to shut off his Blackberry. There are also new positions for those that prefer a better view and a snazzy hat, as the airline is also looking to hire some new pilots—it’s time to update those resumes!
As of now, Southwest Airlines is mainly hiring interns for the summer of 2011, but we’re thinking it’s only a matter of time before they open up the HR floodgates to welcome thousands of applications for pilot and flight attendant positions. Back in October Gary Kelly—airline CEO and Halloween expert—announced that that the airline will need around 200 new pilots and 300 new flight attendants in advance of the merger with AirTran. The airline hasn’t hired for these positions since 2008, so it’s kind of a big deal if you’re looking for a job with one of the most profitable domestic carriers.
