The Twitter Account That Beats Black Friday for Year-round Airfare Deals

November 25, 2014 at 4:27 PM | by | Comments (0)

Forget Black Friday. The best airfare deals won't be coming from the airline themselves, but via a little website named The Flight Deal.

An algorithm regularly unearths airfares you'd be tempted to consider "too good to be true," but then the TFD staff steps in to vet them and, once confirmed, posts these deals for you to jump on. Today, for example, they've highlighted $273 Seattle-Orlando, $592 Newark-Paris/Oslo, and $765 Denver-Taipei.

The Flight Deal's raison d'être is clear and squarely for the benefit of you, the cost-conscious traveler: "we will only publish fares that meet a simple criterion: 6 cents per mile." Under this rule, a nonstop roundtrip from New York to Barcelona "should never be more than $425." We've scored many, many unbelievable deals via TFD, such as New York-Vienna for ~$300, Detroit-Aruba for ~$230, and Los Angeles-Hong Kong for ~$550.

They're kind of our secret weapon; this Thanksgiving, we know for what/whom we're most thankful (hint: it's TheFlightDeal).

Our friends at TheFlightDeal, FareDealAlert, and airfarewatchdog have been on it from the start, tweeting a stream of tempting deals all day long, like $467 SFO - Dublin on US Airways and $664 DFW - Madrid on Delta.

Travelers in cities other than the usual cheap fare favorites of New York, LA and SF will be shocked to see some serious deals closer to home, flyable for travel dates throughout winter 2014 and into late spring 2015.

Here's a few of our favorites:

Plan Far Ahead for This Awesome Airfare Deal to Hong Kong

August 26, 2014 at 4:00 PM | by | Comments (2)

Hong Kong may be clear on the other side of the world from New York, but Cathay Pacific's 777-300ER airplanes can make the journey in one swift hop over the North Pole. Come next spring, they'll even be doing so often with a new nonstop route from Boston-Logan International Airport.

This will be the airline's 6th US destination (following JFK, EWR, SFO, LAX, and ORD). To celebrate, and to fill up their first month of flights with smiling faces, they've launched a deep discount airfare sale on the new route, with roundtrip tickets going for a total of $753.88. That's a whole $4 cheaper than last year's similar launch sale to Newark.

Rental Road Trip on the Cheap with One-way Deals in Arizona

February 13, 2014 at 9:49 AM | by | Comments (0)

There’s been plenty of deals to drive rental cars out of certain states and into other states as well; however, we’re not sure that has been the case at the same time. Hertz is either confused, or they just are really excited about the state of Arizona. The rental car company is now offering up one-way deals for those looking to depart from or arrive to the Grand Canyon State.

Heading into the state is the better option, so we’ll start with that. Drive into Arizona deals can be had starting at $5 per day on economy cars, and if you’re looking for something a little better—they also promise a good deal on other car classes. You need to book your reservation sooner than later, and pickup the car prior to March 10. Just utilize RQ “ICFLT1” to score the deal, and be sure to grab your car at a participating location. This includes options rented in and around Southern California, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, and the state of New Mexico.

Does Priceline's 'Name Your Own Price' Actually Work for Airfares? Yes and Yes.

February 5, 2014 at 10:08 AM | by | Comments (2)

Airfares were high and hope for a deal was low. There has to be someone to turn to in times like these, and there is: the Priceline Negotiator. We're not affiliated with Priceline in any way, but we are skeptics who somehow manage to make their Name Your Own Price tool work for us and our wallet.

The going rate for a last-minute NYC-Memphis roundtrip was $515. No way were we about to pay that for a trip that was just for fun. Since it wouldn’t kill anyone if we didn’t go, we decided to do so only if we could score a deal using Priceline’s Name Your Own Price tool.

In our prior successful use of Priceline Name Your Own Price, we went ahead with some of Priceline’s suggested flight options promising a better chance at a lower price, like choosing Newark-EWR as our first-choice NYC airport (even though it totally isn’t). For that trip, we ended up paying $350 for a Delta roundtrip via Atlanta.
