August 11, 2014 at 6:52 PM | by | Comment (1)

From the airline that brought you a channel dedicated to a 7-hour train trip through Norway now comes a channel devoted to nonstop cuteness. Debuting this September on British Airways' long-haul flights, "Paws and Relax" will initially lead off with the comic series "Simon’s Cat," the documentary "The Secret Life of Cats," and the awwww-inspiring "America’s Cutest Dog."

It's obviously a departure from the usual in-flight fare of almost-new movie releases and TV series from B-list actors, but "Paws and Relax" is based on the very real research that watching cute animals lowers blood pressure and facilitates relaxation. The goal? To "enhance the wellbeing of customers" flying BA.

Aw Yeah, It's Almost Time for Discovery Channel's 'Shark Week'

August 4, 2014 at 3:55 PM | by | Comments (0)

Who was it that once said, "Live every week like it's Shark Week?" Ah yes, it was 30 Rock character Tracy Jordan, by way of Kenneth the Page quoting him. Never have we heard a more inspirational saying. Even better would be adding that it's never too early to start planning for the real Shark Week, the blessed period of seven days when The Discovery Channel airs episodes of "Air Jaws Apocalypse" and any ocean-related episode of Mythbusters.

Shark Week 2014 is planned for the week of August 10 and it'll be celebrating its 27th Anniversary. Begin issuing those BBQ e-vites and set up your Facebook Event for a viewing party of "25 Best Shark Bites," because The Discovery Channel always seems to pick that time of the year when we've had just about enough of the summer, and just want to sit inside with the A/C blasting and the TV on. Suffice it to say that we cannot wait.

August 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM | by | Comments (0)

There once was a time long, long ago when we breathlessly reported the globe-hopping antics of the reality TV show Amazing Race. Alas, we gave up after Season 18 and, now that they're still going strong with what surely must be Season 81, all the Amazing Race excitement fails to raise even an eyebrow.

That is, until we heard about Amazing Race Canada.

The competitors north of the border are the usual mix of cutesy couples, inspiring athletes, and curmudgeonly strange bedfellows; the destinations are as exotic and far-flung as ever; alas, it's the grand prize that's worth sitting up for.

The winning team of Amazing Race Canada's Season 2 will receive $250,000 CAD, two Chevrolet Silverados, gas for life from Petro-Canada, and a year of unlimited Business Class travel on Air Canada.

August 1, 2014 at 10:25 AM | by | Comments (0)

Fun fact: BBC's Top Gear is the most popular automotive show in history, broadcasting in about 170 different countries. Hundreds of millions of people tune in and watch the ragtag trio of presenters race, destroy cars, and chide each other in the process every week, so there is a pretty good chance you're one of those fans. If so, good news! The Top Gear Test Track is now open to the public, for a price of course.

That’s right. You can drive on the same track at Dunsfold Park (near Guildford in Surrey) where they do most of their tests and challenges, visit the Top Gear TV Studio, and catch a glimpse of that looming Boeing 747 in the process. The Top Gear Track Experience, as it's called, offers 8 different options ranging from the “Star In a Reasonably Priced Car” timed laps to off-roading in a Land Rover Defender.
