Summer Music Festivals: Austin City Limits

September 12, 2007 at 12:05 PM | by | Comments (0)

As the summer music festival season draws to a close, it's only fitting this show came in a little slow. Austin's other big music festival, Austin City Limits, comes to town this weekend. It's like SXSW, but, you know, for old people.

For three days, on eight stages, 130 bands will perform in Zilker Park. While conversations backstage tend toward Bob Dylan and John Prine discussing how they're spending their Social Security checks, festival organizers have attempted to revamp the festival with some young blood. In addition to Dylan, this year's headliners include Bjork, The White Stripes, The Killers, Wilco, Arcade Fire, and a bunch of other whippersnappers.

Summer Music Festivals: Pitchfork '07

We admit it. We like Yoko. She's a feisty broad with an unapologetically terrible voice. Plus, she's got a seriously hot body for a septuagenarian. Saturday, she takes the stage -- not because of John's insistence -- and plans to sing in front of an allegedly willing audience at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago.

The event kicks off Friday in Union Park and goes until Sunday. Other acts include Iron and Wine, the Sea and Cake, Sonic Youth, and The New Pornographers. About 30 additional performers round out the show. The event's organizer, Pitchfork, is one of those online music magazines that informs semi-hipsters on trends after the cooler hipsters are done with them (we know, it just sounds exhausting).
