Over 100 Hot Air Balloons Take to New Jersey's Skies Really Soon
When you think of hot air balloons you might think of the big shindig over in Albuquerque, but for those in the Northeast there’s a pretty good festival coming up that might just require a little road trip rather than a flight. The QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning takes place in just a couple of weeks, as it’s set to run between July 29 and July 31 at the Solberg Airport in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey.
They’ve got like at least 100 different balloons of all different shapes and sizes—including a butterfly, a shark, and the biggest can of Pepsi you’ve ever seen—that will hit the skies altogether twice per day. Besides the balloons there’s a 5K, a lady who shoots herself from a cannon, and 200 different vendors selling crafts and other goodies.

Meatloaf Cupcakes and Popcornsicles Take Over at Tomorrow's Taste of Chicago
Chicago, which used to be summer festival central, has taken some big hits lately, with a number of popular fests axed due to budget constraints. The city has had to say goodbye to the Chicago Outdoor Film Festival, the city's Fourth of July fireworks (Navy Pier gets the honors this year) and Gospel Fest, among others. Luckily, the standout summer soiree, Taste of Chicago, will go on—it opens tomorrow.
Those who miss the canceled fests will especially want to visit the Taste, since it is incorporating Viva! Chicago Latin Music, Country Music, Gospel and Celtic fests into the musical offerings.

How to Get Tickets to Seattle's Bumbershoot 2010
For better or for worse Labor Day is right around the corner. There’s no escaping the end of the summer season, so rather than sulking away the end of the warm weather we suggest making some Labor Day plans as soon as possible. If a cheap getaway isn’t cheap enough, just join the crowds in Seattle for this year’s edition of Bumbershoot.
From September 4-6, the festival brings together an eclectic mixture of music, arts, and all kinds of other cool stuff. It’s the largest urban arts festival on the continent, so expect to get cozy with over 150,000 of your closest friends. Even if you don’t line up for the comedy shows, indie markets, or weird dance performances there’s always the music. This year is a good one, as Weezer, Mary J. Blige, and Bob Dylan bring the best in music to the masses.

Get Your Plastic Bibs Ready for the Maine Lobster Festival
While President Obama and the first family were doing their thing in and around Acadia National Park this weekend, organizers down the coast were preparing for some excitement of their own. Obama should have reconsidered his schedule, because he'll have just missed the Maine Lobster Festival set for August 4 through 8 in Rockland.
Probably one of the most delicious summer food festivals out there, this year’s crustacean celebration features live music, art, photography, and of course a huge parade where 25,000 lobster fans are expected to line the route. Organizers are ready for the crowd as they expect to have 20,000 pounds of lobster steaming away, so be sure to bring along some spare butter to help wash it all down.

The Memphis in May Festival Will Haul Tunisia to Tennessee
Somehow we’re already halfway through April, and since we like to always look forward, it’s time to start thinking about May. It’s always a good idea to be in Memphis during the month of May, and this year is no exception. Of course there’s plenty of barbecue to enjoy, but way there’s more than just smoke and ‘cue.
The whole Memphis in May Festival actually starts on April 30—their secret is safe with us—with the Beale Street Music Festival. The music runs through May 2, and this year’s concert features four different stages and over fifty acts ranging from rock to gospel. Hall & Oates, Alice in Chains, and Bret Michaels are just some examples of the eclectic blend of music styles. A three day pass to all the music and entertainment will run about $75, and that includes all the mandatory fees and surcharges. Just please remember that the concert is not an open casting call for the next season of Rock of Love.

Up, Up, and Away At New York State's Hot Air Balloon Fest
If you’ll be chilling in upstate New York this Labor Day weekend, you may want to consider a little more action than just chowing down a couple of white hots off the grill. The New York State Festival of Balloons is taking place all weekend in Dansville, and it’s only about an hour south of Rochester. There will be plenty of food, arts and crafts, entertainment, and a huge amount of hot air balloons. You can even camp right at the festival in case you get stuck with overnight balloon duty.
To celebrate their 28th year running, organizers will kick things off on September 3 with their Thursday Night Balloon Glow. Swing by the town’s municipal airport to see the balloons fire up their burners and watch them shine in the night sky. Maybe if you’re lucky you can sweet-talk a pilot into a free ride over the weekend.

Horses Will Be Hauling At Arkansas' Covered Wagon Races
If that other festival dedicated to the wild west isn’t doing it for you, then we have another one that may help you move along your little doggies. It’s the 2009 National Championship Chuckwagon Race in Clinton, Arkansas, and it’s off to the races throughout Labor Day weekend. Just remember to bring your best horse and your dinner bell, and you’ll fit right in.
The festival is just what it sounds like—covered wagons hauling as fast as they can against other Conestogas. We’re still wondering why Dr. Quinn wasn’t all over this sport when her show was on the air, because maybe then we would have watched. More than 20,000 people will be on hand to check everything out, and some of them will likely being cozying up to the weekend’s winners who hope to share in over $20,000 in prizes.
