Will You Miss Bourbon Street's Barkers When They're Gone?

October 24, 2009 at 2:51 PM | by Victor Ozols | 0 Comments

Barkers are a fixture in just about every nightlife district in the world, pacing the sidewalks in front of bars, restaurants, and strip clubs in an attempt to bring in customers. Usually they're harmless, but the more aggressive touts can be downright obnoxious, putting their arms around pedestrians and doing everything in their power short of kidnapping to get them into their establishments. Some officials in New Orleans believe that their fair city has far too many aggressive barkers, and they're looking to get rid of them. As the AP points out, an ordinance was passed 25 years ago that explicitly outlaws barkers, but it has been only rarely enforced until today.

Learning How to Pole Dance in Las Vegas

February 3, 2009 at 5:01 PM | by juliana | 0 Comments

HotelChatter editor and Jaunted contributor Juliana recently visited Las Vegas and decided to do as the Las Vegas folk do: Strip.

Last week I took a field trip to Las Vegas where I checked out some of the renovated hotel rooms on the Strip. But I also had a secret side mission. I was trying to track down stripper poles that didn't require me to actually get up in front of a gaggle of men and strip down to my granny panties as Motley Crue played in the background.

While several nightclubs have stripper poles (for females only) like Tryst at The Wynn and Christian Audiger at Treasure Island, I found a place where I could really concentrate on my pole-dancing skills: Stripper 101 at the V Theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino.

To Do in Vegas: The Thunder From Down Under

Where: 3850 Las Vegas Boulevard South [map], Las Vegas, nv, United States, 89109
October 5, 2006 at 2:51 PM | by juliana | 2 Comments

Ok so maybe hitting up an all-male, all g-string revue in Las Vegas like the Thunder From Down Under show at Excalibur is only for bacherlorette parties, cougar conventions and perhaps a lone man who's into this sort of thing.

A supposedly all-Australian men cast, the show has been "sizzling" since 2001. Because it is really hard for us to describe this male stripper cheese-fest without gagging, we'll let the show's website do the talking:

The sexy Australian imports crackle with high energy as they show off their buffed bodies to adoring fans who can't seem to get enough of them. That's fine with the handsome blokes. They love to perform and interact with the ladies who scream with anticipation from the moment the show begins.

The latest production features charismatic characters including pirate "Jack Sparrow" from "Pirates of the Caribbean," to a "Desperado" from the Wild West. Did we mention the ladies get fired up at the thought of a romantic and muscled fireman sweeping them off their feet and creating heat on his own terms?

The shows run nightly at 8:30 PM and 10:30 PM, Sunday through Thursday and at 9:00PM and 11:00PM, Friday and Saturday.

Unfortunately, if you're a male and like the Ozzie concept but not the men, the women's version Aussie Angels at the Las Vegas Hilton didn't do so well.

Insider Tip: Don't expect perfection. Several women we know who have checked out the show say some dancers have bacne.

Jumbo's Clown Room Grabs Pole Position

Where: 5153 Hollywood Boulevard [map], Hollywood, CA, United States, 90027
July 12, 2006 at 10:35 AM | by Katherine | 1 Comment

Transplants to L.A. are often introduced to Jumbo's Clown Room as "where strippers go to die".  It had a certain bullet-hole-and-cigarette-burn charm to it for a long time, perhaps due somewhat to its association with Courtney Love, who got her Hollywood start upon Jumbo's legendary poles.

A recent trip there, however, proved that the place has taken a whole new turn: It's full of young partiers, the music is great, and the girls are smoking hot.  Last year Hollywood instituted an "alcohol + boobies = illegal" ruling, (see Frottage v Classy, 2005) which means Jumbo's is more accurately described as a bikini bar than a strip club.

The girls, meanwhile, have made the restrictions work for them.  Sure, there's still the requisite ass-slapping and coochie-grinding for the traditionalists in the audience, but some of the ladies are quite inventive. One dancer's performance involving Saran wrap and bungee cords caused chaos amongst the audience, who were momentarily turned into dollar-flinging monkeys.   A word of advice: Come prepared to tip early and often, as the bartender will call you out if he sees you being less than generous with the talent.

Best Strip Club In Montreal

Where: 696 Rue de St. Catherine, Montreal, QC, Canada
May 18, 2005 at 6:53 PM | by markj | 3 Comments

"Ou est le club super sexe?"  That catch phrase may have taken over "Quelle age avez vous?" as the most commonly asked question by Montreal male visitors.

What is the best thing about the best strip club in Montreal?  It isn't that the dancers actually speak French, or that the club is actually located at the 696 St. Catherine St, though both of those things are true. The best thing about Super Sexe is that you are bound to see as many women as men making up the clubs nightly patronage.
