Steve Carell Finds a New 'Office'
Things must be going well at “The Office” for Steve Carell who recently made a large real estate investment. Carell bought the Marshfield Hills General Store in Marshfield Hills, Mass., just south of Boston, where the star owns a summer home. Currently, his sister-in-law Tish Vivaldo (in the picture above) is in charge but during his summer hiatus Carell plans to be behind the register himself.
The store has been a local landmark for 155 years. In that time, it has been a rum and dry goods store, a tea and sandwich shop, a restaurant and during the Civil War it was a supplier of uniforms to the Union Army. The Boston Globe explains Carell bought the property because he wanted to preserve this unique piece of history.
"I also felt that places like the Marshfield Hills General Store represent a gathering place, and give people a sense of community. These spots are growing more and more scarce. I hope to keep this particular one alive and well."
The store still sells penny candy, along with books, beer, wine, and snacks. Carell plans to restore the exterior of the building, including work on the porch and siding. According to Vivaldo, there is talk about eventually adding on a sandwich shop.
Keeping with the family spirit of this new venture, Steve Carell’s brother, Greg, will be the supervising architect on all of the restorations.
Carell bought the business after hearing it was for sale in October. The previous owners had the shop since 2002 after it had been vacant for more than a year.

Dangerous Travel: Agent 99 Attacked Off-Duty in Russia
You can catch her right now as Steve Carell's glamorous partner in the movie "Get Smart," but Anne Hathaway always struck us as a sweet, down-to-earth girl in real life--which makes her assault by a jealous girl on the movie set seem even more like a spy ambush.
Apparently a girl approached her on set in Russia and started screaming and pushing the star until Hathaway kicked her in the... Nah, she let the security guards handle it.
Given the hazards of the road, the Gramercy Park Hotel ain't looking so bad; the greatest danger there might be tripping over Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson at the Rose Bar.

Movie Set Travel: Dan in Real Life
If you're a Steve Carell fan--and want to see a movie with him that's safe to take your kids to--check out this week's pick, Dan in Real Life. Dan (Carell) is a devoted father, and a widower who's also a newspaper columnist. After he meets Marie (Juliet Binoche) in a bookstore, he's head over heels until he realizes Marie's dating his own brother.
Of course there are the usual mix-ups and hijinks with the two sneaking around, and a bunch of poignant scenes with Dan and the kids. Hey, we warned you it's a family flick.
As this was shot in and around Rhode Island, we offer you some fun things to check out in The Ocean State--a very pretty place this time of year:
Where To Stay: Castle Hill Inn, Newport Perched right on the end of a 40 acre peninsula off Newport's famed Ocean Drive, Castle Hill Inn will make you feel like you own your very own ocean front manse--if you just close your eyes and block out all the other guests. The inn's premiere building, the Agassiz Masion, houses nine themed rooms with custom decor and views of the bay.
Where To Eat: Aunt Carrie's, Narragansett Family owned and operated for more than 85 years, Aunt Carrie's serves locals and travelers traditional R.I. beach grub: think steamers, clam chowder, lobster salad and fish & chips. Be prepped to wait a bit, folks line up early. Carrie's is the real thing, having earned an "America's Classic" award from the James Beard Foundation earlier this year.
What to See: Point Judith Lighthouse, Narragansett As featured in the film, check out this legendary lighthouse originally built in 1810. A family dynasty of lighthouse keepers spanned nearly 100 years here. Point Judith Lighthouse was refurbished in 2000 and offers a great view of the bay to the north and the sound and Block Island to the south.
