Hmm...There Seems To Be an Airplane on a Manhattan Rooftop
New York City is so awesomely packed with the quirkiest stuff that it takes a lot to surprise us when it comes to weird news, but when we recently read on Gothamist that there is an airplane on a roof of a downtown office building...our jaw dropped. We had to know more.
Luckily Gothamist goes on to explain that the planea World War I Sopwith Camel fighter bi-planeis not air-worthy, but intended as a sort of art installation. The runway on which it sits is not only too short for any plane to attempt a takeoff or landing, but it's also terribly thin. It's solely a base for the odd structure, although it does sport functioning runway lights.
To read more into the history of the piece and see more photos, check out the original Gothamist post here, and do be sure to let us know if you've spotted any other airplanes on rooftops. We're kinda into that.
