Rape at Denver International Means Think Twice About Sleeping in Airports

April 13, 2011 at 11:42 AM | by | ()

Don't cry "rape" when you pass through one of the TSA's full-body scanners, because actual airport rape does happen, and it's not something to be taken lightly. In the early morning hours yesterday, a 26-yr-old man was arrested at Denver International Airport after sexually assaulting a 22-yr-old woman who was staying in the airport through the night after missing her connection.

The two allegedly began chatting at a bistro within the airport, but when the girl excused herself, the man followed then assaulted her. It was only when two of the airport employees outside saw the assault through the windows that 911 was called and the man arrested by airport security.

This crime should immediately cause a siren to go off in the heads of solo travelers who find themselves hanging out in airports, especially after hours. Being past TSA security on the "airside" end of an airport doesn't automatically guarantee safety, and in such a place of transience, it's best to reflect on the "don't talk to strangers" lesson you learned in kindergarten.

Silversea wants all the single ladies to put their hands up on deck.

Check out three cruise lines that are helping out all the single ladies and lads.

Lovestruck is Like Foursquare for Dating Your Way Around the World

May 18, 2010 at 10:45 AM | by | ()

Are you our friend on Foursquare yet? Because you totally should be. But if you're one of the naysayers who doesn't quite understand Foursquare or other location-based social networking, then perhaps all you need is to try using it to jumpstart your love life. And there's a new app that wants to do just that: Lovestruck.

Lovestruck is basically a dating website, but perfect for single-and-looking travelers in that you can list yourself (and see others around you who are up for it) as available for lunch and/or available for drinks later. It's basically like the dating site version of Foursquare, except that it sadly lacks badges, unless you count hook-ups as badges.

Make your libido location-based, after the jump

Cruise Ships Woo Long-Snubbed Solo Travelers

January 29, 2010 at 9:05 AM | by | ()

Cruise ships are making it easier and cheaper for members of the lonely-hearts club to hit the seas.

The cruise industry is notorious for discriminating against single travelers, piling on surcharges for those cruising alone and giving better deals to duos. Margie Jordan of the American Society of Travel Agents told Reuters that solo globetrotters have to pay 150 to 200 percent more than those traveling in pairs.

But cruise ships are seeing an untapped market in solo cruisers and are jumping on it. In July, Norwegian Cruise Line will launch the Epic, a ship with studios designed for one occupant and there's no single supplement included. Stays in the specially designed staterooms are now for available for purchase.
