And Now, Hot Waffles in an A380 at 38,000 Feet
Happy National Waffle Day! It's a real thing, we swear, and although we have no idea who makes these things up, we're not complaining. Instead, to honor this very important day and to draw attention to our new series on "Surprisingly Yummy Airline Meals," we conducted a little not-so-scientific poll on Twitter to discover who of you, our lovely readers, have actually licked their plate clean at altitude.
Your answers for airlines with cuisine that (pleasantly) surprised? Asiana, ANA, British Airways, Delta, Japan Airlines, LAN, Lufthansa, Thai Airways, andas @jacksontalent so aptly put it"you can never leave out Singapore Airlines!"

Win Two Seats on Singapore Airlines' Next A380 Delivery Flight
Delivery flights are magical things. A brand-spanking-new airplane rolls off the line and is ready to take its rightful place as a vehicle for transporting travelers around the world. The manufacturer hands the keys over to the purchasing airline, and the airline takes her home for keeps. It's that transferfrom the manufacturer to the airlinethat defines a delivery flight.
Up 'til now, delivery flights have been reserved for those employed by the airline or manufacturer, or journalists within the aviation industry. Singapore Airlines is about to change all that, however; they're hosting a contest to give away two seats on the upcoming delivery flight of their 19th Airbus A380 on September 6.
You've got until August 28 to get your name in to win, and here's how to do so:

Flight Attendants to Earn Gold Stars in Etiquette from Virgin Australia
Australia's cheekiest airline is about to get its act straight. In the quest to woo business passengers from its rival, Qantas, Virgin Australia is shipping its flight attendants straight off to etiquette class. To be more specific, these instructional classes are called "Elevate", and that's just what they're meant to doelevate the service and impress travelers of all kind as they step onboard.
This isn't your run-of-the-mill Emily Post course; simple what-not-to-dos are only the beginning. Cabin crew will be trained in posture and body-language, wine-appreciation and grooming. A simple smile and "g'day" will no longer suffice.

Inside SIA Centre, the Training Headquarters of Singapore Airlines
You buy the tickets, you fly on the planes, you take your free baggie of peanuts from the flight attendants...but chances are you'll never get to see inside the headquarters of that airline you're flying. And yet it's there where the magic really happens.
We've been very fortunate to tour the HQs of several airlines, but none with its own Wine Room or wave machine. Welcome to SIA Centre, the training HQ of Singapore Airlines near Changi International Airport in Singapore.
Through the gates and into an atrium decorated with the crew uniforms and ephemera of the airline's long history, we reach the heart of SIA. This is where 6,000 crew comes to earn their wings and where each piece of the brand bearing the Singapore Airlines logofrom First Class china to seatback safety cardsis treated with the reverence of a museum exhibit.

Hawaii, Paraguay and Singapore Star in This Week's New Routes
Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.
· American Airlines:
Thinking about visiting Paraguay? We kind of weren’t either, but now we are thanks to some news out of the American Airlines camp. The carrier is planning to start up the first nonstop option between the nifty fifty and Paraguay beginning later this year. The plan is to link Miami with Asuncion beginning on November 15, which is perfect for skipping the turkey here at home and checking out a slice of South America. Boeing 757s will be doing the flying four times per week, and we’re sure that there will be plenty who will be pumped over the lack of a flight connection. Just don’t expect any crazy introductory fares, as we’re thinking the convenience comes with a price.
· Japan Airlines:
Looks like the Boeing 787 is coming to a new city within the United States, and all the flying fun is on schedule to begin on December 2. We knew Japan Airlines was planning to connect San Diego with Tokyo-Narita, but we just weren’t sure when the pilots and planes were going to start heading back and forth. This is the airport’s first nonstop option over to Asia, and the plan is to run the flights four times per week. Flights will do their thing on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, but if all goes well the flights might just become a daily option in 2013.

Swim, Surf, Lunch, Tan, Plane Spot, Repeat. That's the Bali Formula.
We have a little secret, and it involved airplanes, seafood, blue waters and, if you've got 'em, binoculars. It's the secret to what is probably the best place to plane spot on the exotic Indonesia island of Bali: the south seafood warungs of Jimbaran Bay.
Finding it was a total fluke. We weren't even trying to plane spot, we swear! We were hungry. We heard the Jimbaran seafood warungs (super casual, mostly outdoor cafes) were good. We heard the ones on the southern end of the big beach were great. Now what makes them excellent: a perfect viewing angle for watching all variety of airplanes take off from Bali-Denpasar Airport's runway that juts out in the ocean.

Kiss Sleep Goodbye Thanks to Singapore Airlines' New In-Flight WiFi
There’s no way we’re going to get to sleep on those overnight A380 flights now, as it sounds like in-flight WiFi is making its way to Singapore Airlines.
Right now plans are still in the works regarding the entire international fleet, but for now there’s going to be some A380s connected to the World Wide Web no matter where you are above the earth. Thanks to plenty of satellites—and the OnAir system—your Facebook, Twitter, Gmail and whatever else accounts will just be a few clicks away. Honestly, we kind of feel a little badly for the inflight magazine right about now.

The Latest Travel Threat is from Overheard Bin Thieves
When the boarding process is finished and you're done battling your fellow passengers for overhead bin space in the overhead bin, you probably don’t think too much about that bag above your head. Well it might be time to check on it every once in a while, as apparently there’s been attempted baggage theft on flights. It can happen anywhere travelers let their guard down, but lately international overheard bins are the target.
Over the weekend police arrested a couple people accused of trying to swipe some stuff right off a Singapore Airlines flight. In one instance, it sounds as though a passenger went up a few rows, grabbed a laptop bag, and then headed back to his seat to check out what was inside. Apparently one of the flight attendants immediately noticed what was going on and ensured the troublesome passenger stayed put until the plane landed.

All-Business-Class Flights to Singapore May Become a Thing of the Past
The allure and glamor of flying between 18 and 19 hours, non-stop, in a super wide business class seat, surrounded by, and nothing but, other plush business class seats may be a story we tell our grandchildren. Singapore Airlines has been considering reverting their all-premium aircraft back to a 2-class cabin with premium-economy class seating.
The sky-rocketing cost of jet-fuel, a turbulent airline industry and low load factors are causing the airline to toss around the idea of adding seats to pack in the passengers a bit more and, ultimately, increase revenue.

In the midst of the bustle of travel, it's all too easy to overlook the details. We're talking about special touches others have stressed over just so you can enjoy a unique experience, whether you know it or not. Every so often we'll highlight The Little Things like this, so now you will know.
The Little Thing: Singapore Airlines' in-flight TWG Tea, specifically the "Singapore Breakfast" blend.
TWG Tea is a Singapore tea purveyor that sells the allure of Singapore's history with every teabag. Singapore Airlines chose them to provide their onboard tea variety, and the assortments (with flavor notes) are even listed in the Singapore Business and First/Suites menus. Here's what the official TWG site has to say about "Singapore Breakfast":
A tantalising elixir to inspire new beginnings, this noble TWG breakfast blend is evocative of the sophisticated harmony of Singapore. Boasting a natural blend of green tea, black tea, rich vanilla and rare spices, this tea yields a complex flavour with a sweet and lingering aftertaste.
