How to Celebrate National Donut Day on the Road: Donut Shops in Airports

Today is more than just any Friday; it's National Donut Day. To celebrate this momentous occasion, we'll be doing what we do best: writing about donuts. And travel. Traveling donuts! People who travel for donuts! You get the idea. Now go get a cruller.

For those of you that are planning to be in the air today, there's no need to be left out of the National Donut Day action today (or really any day), as we've located the best airport donut outlets for getting it on with some sort of glazed-, cake-, frosted- or sprinkled-doughnut goodness.

For those that have decided that an ultra long-haul flight to Singapore is in order, look out for the Singapore Airlines gift of the sweet treat. The airline will start serving up Randy Donuts to passengers who fork over some extra cash to fly in their suites and business class seats form LAX. If you just can't swing that kind of dough, get some literal dough at Randy's shop in Inglewood, where the airline will be offering a free doughnut to anyone who stops by from 7 to 10am (today only).

What Happens When an A380 Hits Severe 'Clear-air' Turbulence

A flight from Singapore to London on a Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 is normal enough, an everyday occurrence of 13 hours with a few meals and hopefully some nap time over oceans and continents. That is, it's all routine unless you were onboard the flight one week ago when the doubledecker aircraft flew through "Clear-air turbulence," literally shaking up the cabin.

None of the 328 passengers and 28 crew onboard were seriously injured when the plane lost several hundred feet in altitude in a split second somewhere between the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, but breakfast trays and hot coffees did take their own flights. What Everyone's Buying in Singapore: the Sarong Kebaya

Welcome to "What Everyone's Buying," a new series on souvenirs, wherein we investigate what tourist trinkets are the hottest selling in hotspots around the world.

Fun fact: the iconic "Singapore Girl" of Singapore Airlines is so iconic that, in 1994, she became the first commercial, non-celeb figure to enter Madame Tussaud's wax museum in London.

The clothing itself is simple—a traditional tailored kebaya top with sarong skirt. It's also quite timeless; this has been the uniform of Singapore Airlines' female flight attendants since 1972 and part of what makes the look of the Singapore Girl such a long-lasting favorite is the lovely batik print.

Asiana Flight Attendants Win the Right to Wear Pants

After about a year of back and forth and fight after fight, Asiana flight attendants have bucked their dress-code and can now rock up to work wearing a smart pair of pants to serve passengers. A South Korean human rights group has deemed the skirt-only rule for cabin-crew discriminatory, as it is far too gender specific.

For the first time in 25 years, any one of the over 3,000 flight attendants can wear pants to work without a slap on the wrist. The revised 10-page guidelines for what the female crew can wear gets as detailed as how big their earrings can be, what color their hair can be and which type of eye makeup can be worn.

Singapore's Airport Will Actually Pay You to Fly There

What are the World's Longest and Shortest Flights?

It's always nice to impress people with some useless knowledge, so here's a little morsel of info for when you're at your next dinner party: the airlines and routes that offer the world's longest and shortest flights. Since the world records are best left to Guinness, we will just clue you into the facts.

Let's start with the longest, since 2013 will cause some interesting movement in that area. Currently, Singapore Airlines holds this title for the longest commercial flight on the planet. SG 12, flying the 9,505-mile journey from Changi International to Newark Liberty takes passengers across the world in about 18 1/2 hours, give or take some time depending on winds. Singapore has announced that this year will sadly see the cessation of this route, handing over the crown to Qantas' flight from Sydney to Dallas. That 17-hour flight spans about 8,576 miles.

”Don’t touch what you can’t afford.” It was our go-to putdown in high school and, you might say, the atmosphere in the poshest of London's shops, Harrods. Except, for two weeks, you can do just that, because Singapore Airlines have set up a mock business class cabin in the shop window.

Saying “mock” is kind of a disservice to Singapore Airlines' display, because these are two fully functional seats (18A and 19A); they recline, they lie flat, and they even have the right inflight magazines in their windowside storage space. Speaking of the windows, they’re filled in with photos of Singapore. Even the TV in the seatback is a working example of the Krisflyer inflight entertainment system.

Deep Discount 787 Dreamliner Flights Coming in 2014 Thanks to Scoot

Think of it as a big yellow dream. Budget airfares on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner are to become reality with Scoot's announcement of adding some new metal to their fleet. That's right—Singapore's newest little LCC has just placed a huge order for 20 new Boeing aircraft to take delivery starting in 2014.

The news comes at the same time Scoot's parent, Singapore Airlines, brags about a huge order of new aircraft for themselves, including A380s and A350s. Along with the Airbus planes, SIA signed the check to ensure their little brother can rock up to airports looking flash. With all their new routes it's making more and more sense to invest in efficient planes to keep prices as low as possible.

Airline News Round-up: 787s and an A380 for Everyone!

Too much awesome aviation news came down the pipeline this week, so we'll just wrap it up neatly for you with some bullet points:

· LAN's first 787 Dreamliner hit the South American skies: Well, it's official; South America's first Dreamliner is running its first regularly scheduled service, flying 22x week between Santiago (SCL) and Buenos Aires (EZE). The inaugural happened on October 1 after the plane got some fresh ink (check out the 787 underneath the cockpit windows). Wanna see more?
