Easy-to-Reach Skiing: Snoqualmie Pass

November 29, 2007 at 4:10 PM | by pbb | 0 Comments

We really like skiing and boarding. But that doesn't mean we want to spend our whole vacation just getting to the mountain. Our Ski Areas Near Airports Map will help you maximize your time on the slopes.

It's still a little early in the season for Pacific Northwest skiing, but Snoqualmie Pass in Washington State is gearing up with over a foot of snow already on the ground. The sprawling resort is just 58 miles from Sea-Tac, which shouldn't take more than 90 minutes to drive, even in terrible Seattle traffic.

Once you get up the pass, you'll have your choice of four base areas, each with its own facilities and lifts. Alpental has a good selection of black diamond runs and a big backcountry area. Summit is split into three separate sections. To the east, you'll find intermediate terrain. The central section has the half pipes and terrain parks. Avoid the easier, western slopes--they're the closest to Seattle and full of amateurs.

Day tickets at Snoqualmie sell for $48, but for a couple bucks more, you can ride until 10 pm. After all, it's only a short drive back to the city.
